I have two American Pitbull Terriers who have been trained using this submission method. My male is 4, female going on 2. I have got them to the point where I dont even need to pin them, they submit when they know they have done something that is not permissible. They can sense and hear a change of my state and they will lay on their side. My dogs are genuinely happy and have never lashed out, not in any circumstance. If a dog lashes out at you, you are doing something wrong.
@gOtHiCxAnGeLxox I have had dogs for over 25 years and none of the methods that I have used when working with dogs have ever failed. You need to know what works with what dog. They are all individuals, they all learn differently. This is a method I generally would use on a high energy dog to calm it down if its getting to involved/focused in a behavior that is not permissible. As I said before if a dog lashes out at you, you are doing something wrong. I have yet to have one lash out at me.
In the intro movie where he's aggressive, well his tail keeps hitting the kitchencabinet, so yeah he thinks wow whats that massive thing behind me, hehe
when you train dogs as good as Cesar, have a program in NatGeo, write dog books that are all best sellers and are consider one of the best dog trainers in the world, then you can say someone else tecnics or points of view are wrong, in your case, NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR OPINION!! ...sorry
@DaCrystalPup The dog isn`t pawing. The dog was placing his paw on top of Cesar`s arm. Pawing is to get attention, but placing the paw and resting it on top of a person is a way a dog demonstrates dominance.
@paisleyyama I disagree. Pawing or placing a paw on something can mean a lot of things. I think in this video, I wouldn't call it dominance. Nothing about this dog seems dominant. It just seems like the dog pawed out of excitement or reaction. A dog with more on its mind wouldn't have had its paw so easily knocked off.
Dominance is really overrated. Rarely will you ever find a truly "dominant" dog. I wish people would look more into positive reinforcement before they choose to follow dominance.
@paisleyyama I still firmly disagree. My dog is far from "dominant" and he places his paws on a lot of things. Guess he's dominating the grass, the log, some sticks, his kong, my shoes. If you watch how Cesar was petting the dog right before the dog put it's paw up, you'll understand why the dog did what it did. It was either annoyed by the way Cesar was touching him or found Cesar's touches to be playful, so the dog engaged. Dominance is really overused these days.
I find this dogs name funny. Angler means "fisher-man" in German :D sorry for the random comment. I love Cesar :)

This is one of the very few episodes of the Dog Whisperer that I actually like and would recommend to a fellow dog-lover to watch.

Did this help fix the dog's food aggression when another dog was close by, or did they not touch up on that in this episode?
