I went in the front once, it was really cool! RIP for those who died in the accident. I'm glad they stopped letting people sit in front because of the danger. Glad to say I've ridden in front though

@fieldhockeydancer Oh wow, i'm so jealous. I'm obsessed and i haven't been for 4 years. I stayed at the Grand Floridian for 16 days so I definitely made the most of the monorail. The build up of going on the monorail before heading to the Magic Kingdom/Epcot always makes your Disney experience that bit better. In 1981, Disney offered a special monorail trip from the Magic Kingdom to view the construction site of the unopened Epcot. I remember taking this same trip, circling Spaceship Earth and right back to the Magic Kingdom after getting a preview peek.

Monorails are great for short, shuttle distances, like around airports and large parks. The major drawback is, in the case of an accident or emergency, there are no quick exits.

I believe the majority of the monorail is reinforced, the front where the driver sits is not. If a family had been in the front during that crash, it would have been even more tragic.

I rode in the front back in May or '09 ...... I hit my head twice, when I got on and when I got off..... XD hehe I feel lucky because I rode in the front before the Crash. And it was my first time in Disney so.... yeah. lol. :D

I can't believe they won't let you sit up front anymore! That accident happened very late at night when the trains were changing tracks and such...I make it a point to sit up front at least once everytime we go. Tradition over. I'd be happy to sigh a waver...that's how awesome sitting up front is, and SAFE!

@RobertsDigital Monorail is not a MagLev system. It is a train that runs on one concrete rail. Each car has its own motor and there are wheels that roll from the car to the rail on the top and on the sides for stability. It's a very smooth system though does not run quite as fast as a MagLev, although it does use less electricity than a MagLev (per passenger)

Yeah, the EPCOT monorail ride is more fun than the Magic Kingdom one. You get a much longer ride. Although stopping at the resorts is nice, too, and the MK has a nicer station.

Anytime you want to ride in the cockpit of the monorail, just ask a cast member at the station in which you're boarding, and they'll be happy to let you ride in the cockpit, though you may have to wait for the next train.

That was nice of Walt Disney World to let you do this cab-ride video for us. I am not sure what the name of the "transit" system is, but if I would just guess it, I would call it the Fantasy Land Transit Authority. With the monorail and the streetcars at the Magic Kingdom.
