  • YEAH!

  • All bike frames flex, some more than others. This camera view/angle really emphasizes the sidwards flex on this frame though.

  • Surprising comments. So many critical "experts" pointing at technical issues of which they know nothing about as if Trek's experts were idiots.

  • omg! that rear triangle has got almost no stiffness you can even see the thing moving right and left...

  • Thats why I cracked twice the rear triangle.... Trek Fuel sucks eheh... That's why I bought a different bike (Specialized Pitch).

  • yeah its an amazing amount of deflection. I'd like to see the new fuel ex's and how they do.

  • @jokeren123 Yeah ... left to right. Made in China , Designed in ???

  • Could you get a back shock for a hardtail mountain bike? Could you buy that separate and get your local bike shop to put it on? Cause I want full suspension on my hardtail mountain bike without paying 2000 dollars on a full suspension mountain bike.

  • No you can't. The rear triangle of a FS bike is a separated part joined with pivots, so it can move up and down. Hardtail rear triangle is fixed to frame, it cannot moves.

  • Thank you so much that probably just saved me hours of internet surfing. But I can upgrade the front suspension right?

  • Yes, if u buy a front susp compatible with your frame.

  • When you say compatible with your frame do you mean just the steerer tube lenght or are there other specifications that are needed before upgrading. thx

  • some head tubes are tapered and you have to buy a fork with the same taper

  • jrod you fuckin retard

  • aaaaw fuck so much flex in the rear triangle!! zero stiffness.

  • Nice video, really, but what is the songs name? -Ride on!

  • @maximilianlindner the song is "Madan (Martin Solveig Remix )"

  • I cracked rear triangle on my fuel 70 trek gave me a carbon fiber replacement last week I broke the frame trek gave me a fuel ex9

    TREK are the best!

  • Realy !? In Portugal Trek warranty sucks!! I know lot of people who cracked rear triangles of fuel and the give a rear triangle with different colour and with v-brakes support (lower profile rear triangle)... In my case I cracked twice the rear triangle, and now I'm waiting for the repair of the rear triangle... they want to "welding" the crack zone.... and I'm waiting for 2 months..... =X

  • podes me dizer qual é a camara que usas?

  • is bending or what?:|

  • yes it is bending, and last week I cracked the rear triangle for the second time in the same location (near bottom braket)... And I know a lot of people with the same issue... Rear triangle of Fuel sucks a lot!

  • dear Uploader, I have a pretty weird question regarding the Ario rear shock. What annoys me most in connection with rear supension is when it refuses to start moving easily, e.g. when riding over small obstacles it only moves AFTER the wheel is on (or when hopping off) the root/rock/whatever. So, is Ario for me? I also like to take some smaller jumps besides riding xc. Thanks a lot!

  • Ario is a XC rear shock and it has a pedal platform to avoid pedal bobbing (it's like Propedal of FOX, but in propedal you can turn it on or off, and you can ajust the amount of platform). In Ario you can't ajust platform or turn it of, so this means that the shock is not very sensitive at the begining of the travel, and it is not very sensitive to small bumps.

I don't like Ario because now I'm turning more agressive rider (see my last video "Windy Ride (MTB)" ), and I need a fully active shock

  • you must feel comfortable on that bike my bike cost me 600 buck and is not close to yours yours is best

  • sweet video man like the music

isnt it amazing how smooth the damping is on the fork and the ario.

the ario is quite a wide isnt it

  • Look how much much lateral motion you get on the rear triangle.

    not good

  • Good observation. I'd like to see if Trek has done anything to address this in their '07/08 models.

  • In fact, my rear triangle had a crack near bottom braket. Trek send to me a new one.

The new fuel EX (Evolink)don't have this lateral motion.

  • not stiff enough....

  • hey howd u set up the camera to film the front fork? id like to do something similar to film a trail run

  • i think its a helmet cam thats strapped to the frame because a normal camera would be too bulky

  • i use my mobile phone that has a swivel camera lol

    lol

  • Tas a confundir tudo.

  • There is no comparison when doing downhills, FS is the only option. Doing downhills on an HT is only for improving your skills because it requires better planning and more delicate moves rather than storming down the track.

Of course fun is the only thing that matters :)

  • Next time do some off-road uphill and post the results.

  • The objective was to see the bobing made by the forces of pedaling. If I climbed off-road the shock bobing will be the result of bumps+pedaling and the conclusion will be not valid.

  • But the result was to compare FS to HT. So I wrote that if you want to make such a claim you should do all types of rides including bumpy off-road uphil ride.

  • It's the same as road climbing but the shock absorvs the impacts ;)

  • Some would say that it's because of the shock that you have to spend extra energy to climb.

  • Some would say that it's because of the shock that you have to spend extra energy to climb.

  • It's true. But as you can see, there isn't significative bobing while pedaling, so, no significative lost of energy. I have no doubt to say that Full-suspension is the best choice for a non-competion XC racer (99% of us)...

  • It all depends on the distance. An insignificant energy loss caused by bobbing could become significant if you have to pedal for eg. 100 miles. And I am not talking about competitions :)

Anyway I believe that it's just a matter of time for FS to became the best on all sorts of terrains.

  • Yes, but I ride for small/medium distances. However, the shocks now-a-days have blocking and some have pedal plattform, to reduce the bobing efect. But at downhilling the shock works a lot! And it's more confortable (even for long distances)! The weakness are the price and the extra weight. But the important is riding a bike and have fun, no matter if is HT or FS! ;)

  • I though it looked like the rear has lock out. This is why I got my full sus. All the benefits of a hardtail on lock and a great downhill when lock off. Full sus = yeah!!!!!11

  • Really good job !!!!!!!!

  • Nao sei! Tenho a musica mas nao diz o nome... Sorry :(

  • alta bike k tens. espectacular a suspensao dianteira e a do meio. fica bem
