That was such an awesome race. Alonso had driven his car so hard to stay ahead of Schumi that his tires had gone off for about the last 9 laps. He had to hold Schumi off on tires that were done and he did it. Such a great battle.

Great race of Alonso and Schumi!! But you have to know that Imola 2005 was one of the many races Schumi has won or almost won, after starting from behind, after technical failure/problem or just with an inferior car, while overtaking everybody.

Sorry pal, schumacher NEVER drove an inferior car, he always drove best, 2nd or third best. He was a great driver, yes, he never beat anybody with an inferior car. Maybe just his 2 victories in 92 and 93.

Where as Alonso did nothing special, he was merely driving the best car on the grid with the best tyres. His Renault had so much more acceleration and mechanical grip, that's why he didn't get overtaken by Schumacher in the last few laps.

This race proved why Schumacher was the best indeed. He was driving an average car with the worst tyres in that year (2005). He was lapping 2 seconds faster than anybody else (including Alonso) while the drivers in front of him were in the pits, and continued to do so after he pitted. He came 'THAT CLOSE' to winning the race :]!
