im pretty sure now you dont need to have the whole 12 rows of dirt cuz melons now grow on regular blocks :D

if you made the water flow part at ground level you could just walk down it and pick up the lost melons

In 1.1 you only need to hoe the soil that the stem is on. Pumpkins and Melons can grow on grass now! 7 People hate easy time-savers.

when i use this it always leaves dirt where the water is supposed to flow so i constantly need to unclog it. im pretty sure i did something wrong so can someone help me with this problem?

@TheKilla4000 The first thing I think is: "Did you maybe use normal pistons below the main water channel (the one that is below where the melons are supposed to grow) instead of sticky"? If so then there's your problem. Otherwise, I'm not sure I can help. Maybe you should watch again and compare what he did to what you did and his system to yours? You should be especially cautious of misprogrammed repeaters. Those are very easy to miss and very hard to find unless you're looking.

actually, nevermind ... 8 squares wouldn't work, or else you'd have to go into the machine a bit to collect the melon slices, since water will flow only 7 squares from the source. (Now I see why you made it only 7 wide =P )

correct me if I'm wrong--I've only started playing Minecraft recently--but, since water will hydrate farmland blocks up to 4 squares away, could this machine be expanded to 8 blocks wide of dirt?

@YuGiJoe89 I don't think so because then the water that pushes the slices down to you wouldn't work right. maybe someone could fix that but it would probably require making the layers uneven in which case it would be more practical to make another machine that drops slices into the lower one or something

Hey my dirt cycler doesn't activate, the regular pistons beside the sticky pistons will work properly when there is no dirt but when dirt is in it it wont work. Please help :(

@KooKooFTW13 did you make the line of dirt too long? the pistons cant push if the line of dirt (or whatever it happens to be) is 12 or more long. hope this helped (if it helped please rate up)

VERY nice tutorial, i like how you actually annunciate your words unlike most tuts. Anyway i found a more compact way to do this because im not sure what all the dirt is about hanging off on the left side. i found this to be just as effective, only more compact(type in imageshack(dot)us in url then paste this after): /photo/my-images/444/201111260­21038(dot)png . Instead of making a row of 10 to the left, just make it so your sticky push blocks are between the dirt and where the melon will be.

you can plant wheat on the top of it and after the wheat grows you can use the lever and it will move the dirt breaking the what and so you now have a auto wheat & watermelon machine(you have to go up the the tilled soil to the the wheat tho :(
