Hah you all talk like your a bunch of experts. Not everyone that drinks alchohol gets drunk or dies from liver disease, not everyone that breathes in asbestos get lung cancer, and not everyone that watched a nuclear explosion gets frieds. They aren't stupid.. they knew what they were doing, wasn't like this was their first nuclear explosion.
Really errickrb then you are an expert. But most people who drink a lot of alcohol do suffer from brain damage. And people exposed to radiation have a much higher chance of dying from leukaemia.
Or don't the guys who employ you guys to watch these nuclear explosions all day tell you that stuff? Sounds to me like the first test of LSD on military volunteers. The dose was 1000 times greater than what it should have been. Most died the rest had serious psychology problems.
While it may happen to most, it doesn't happen to all, that was my point. No, i'm not a expert and i don't claim to be one. I've also known people who've smoked since they're sixteen and never had lung cancer, or any cancer of that sort. I'm just saying it doesn't happen to everyone. Well, just because someone was there and got leukima doesn't mean they got it because they were there.
Katrina was 130 mph at the eye of the storm. So I should imagine at 700 mph is fast enough. At that speed it will kill you before you hear the blast. Probably the best way really what is the point of worrying milliseconds before certain death.
depends how close you are, you vaporize when it detonates, so you really dont have to worry about the shockwave. the shockwave exponentially looses intensity though really rapidly. If you are outside the range of being vaporized chances are the shockwave will account for only a rumble that only has enough power to damage your ear drums.
I sincerely doubt any of those poor soldiers lived more than 5-years after that happened... Cancer cancer cancer. It's amazing what people didn't know back then, kind of makes you think.
most of them actually didi get acute cancer in later life, theres whole web pages set up for the men who were at these tests, most of them have throat and lung cancer...
lol i really doubt any of those soldiers died because of that, it wasn`t THAT much radiation, as long as you don`t drink any radiated water or hang out there for too long, you`ll be safe.
Why not walk towards it? they`re like 10 miles away lol. They`re really lucky people, they are some of the few that get to experience a real nuclear explosion. lol you know why they were hideing in holes? because dirt is great at blocking the radiation, that why retards, no one is gonna have mutant kids.
Considering the vast majority of the destructive power (including radiation) is the flash that's seen at 1:02, and the cloud itself is just excess heat radiating away, it's not really that dangerous.
This proves you can never trust the pentagon & oligarchs of America then or now. WTF? You do not walk soldiers through a radioactive blast zone. Especially in secret without voters' permission.
Great... send your unaware soldiers as mice for a full test.. this mentality still remains.. tyranny with a stupid music.. human mice.. great civilization with 'human rights'..
at the ground zero the radiation is strong. but all other radiated particles went up in air with mushroom cloud... so it's sort of safe walking IF you don't get too close to ground zero AND UNTIL fallout starts to fall down.
this is atomic test, so the strength of explosion isn't very big.
yes they were american soldier, back in the late 40's the US didnt know the effects of Radiation, it was tests like this that allowed them to study the effects on the human body. This is why they sent those troops in.
Beautifully done. Absolutely the best song possible for a video like this.
I honestly cannot look at nuclear warfare seriously. I mean, if the world is being purged by nuclear fire, I would personally find it hard to be serious. In fact, I would probably sit back, light up a spliff, and put a Como record on.
(Okay, it would more likely be some wierd 60's music, a la Jefferson Airplane, but still... great music, man. Great music.)
Last resort for what? What would be the point? Sure we won; we turned a few million innocent people to dust and they did the same back but those who survive know that...
...well I'm sure there was some good idea behind it.
you guys think this is pwnage? check out the Tsar Bomba, that was one nasty bomb.. this nuke really is just a piece of bird shit compared with the Tsar Bomba

We also don't use that kind anymore. The one in the silos are over 10 times as big. About the size of ivy mike.
For people saying Americas dumb? That's a retarded statement most of you pansy's live here. The funny thing is your too much of a pansy to leave. Don't like it leave.

Actually Ivy Mike was 10.4 MEGATONS, average size of a warhead now is about 500 KILOTONS. Smaller warheads but more of them-more damage per blast radius. Less is definitely more nowadays.
Dude, the US start almost all the wars... whats more you loose... you lost in Iraq and Aph... the insergency is more powerful now than it was when it began... whats more the people of IRAQ are electing anti-american politisions... "hmmm i wonder why"
How are we losing . We have taken over a country with less than 3000 deaths . And despite anything the insurgents have done we are still there and will not be going anywhere until the Iraqi government is ready . And our military has NEVER lost a war , not anywhere in our history. Our only loss (Vietnam) was a military victory . The politicians just didn not have the balls to finish. The US military has NEVER been beaten in a war.
u were once beaten during the 2nd world war in the battle over the philippines, that's why mcarthur said "I SHALL RETURN!"would you call that a victory?hooray to you ashole.

The footage is one of the first tests from the USA.
The scientists and generals never told the soldiers, that the'll become ill by radiation. SO the soldiers thought while the test, that they are safe...
It's a little bit like the duck&hide-movies in early sixtys...
From my (european) point of view: USA-citizens = most of them are idiots...
No it isnt a thermonuclear bomb, Thermonuclear bombs are yields above about 100 kiltons. The first thermonuclear device (deliverable, not Ivy Mike because that was an experimental device not a useable weapon) was George with a yield of 250 kiltons.
Americans really dont care about earth. they could really give a fuck if everyone dies and their president lives. and they are worried about terrorists; what idiots. you should worry about your own self-destructive ways.
Your ignorance is overwhelming, read a book before you come up with a point of view and then throw it on the internet without any actual knowledge of what the mind sets of Americans are supposed to the image made by people in your country or by American media and government figures.
Well, i actually have, and as much as americans give a fuck about the enviornment, we are the number one consumer of fossil fuels in the world, and the largest contributer to green house gases. we have the largest stockpile of nuclear weapons. but thank god we care about important issues like gay marriage. really looking for the hard hitting issues. *idiot*
The soldiers were ordered to walk towards the balst, they did not have a choice. This too place at a time when the atomic bomb was still quite new and people did not fully understand, indeed some people did not even believe in the exsistence of radiation. It was because of events like this and the terrable things that happend to the people involved in these tests that people began to understand what radiation was and what it can do to the human body.
Here is the stupid thing about this..the song I don't care about, the soldiers that decide after it explodes, "oh, lets get out of our bunkers and take a walk in the blast radius" ..dumb bastards...no wonder you didn't live long after it happened..I should know..my great grandfather didn't live past 64 cause of it. That and if you look at the actual blast of a nuke theres a 99% chance that you will be blind for life.
What a way to test this radiation theory..seems that anyone is expendable as much now as back then..is the US government actually determined to destroy itself from within? Because it seems to be doing a damn good job of wrecking it's own environment through bombs or population movements.
This is the most awesome thing I have ever seen put to music.

blast storm? you mean the shockwave?
if so it only travels the speed of sound (somewhere near 700mph)

Are you serious.
1) EMP will knock out all communications.
2) Next is the flash which burns skin and sets fire to curtains miles away.
3) The blast has three phases, explosion, implosion and expansion.
4) Most of the dust carried with it are very radioactive.
You would have to be at least 19 Km away from the epicentre of a 1MT bomb to ensure you didn't suffer first degree burns.
Conflagration at 10 Km
Third degree burns at 12 Km
That is just 1Mt what would be the results of a 57 Mt bomb?

57 Mt bomb = third degree burns at 100 Km far.

VashTheStamped001 5 years ago
i think they put the camera up there to record the blast and ducked. pretty sure that's why the bunkers were over their heads
MaxInterjects 5 years ago
Yes, it is true you go blind if you look at a nuclear blast, thats why they ducked and then after the flash looked at the fire cloud.

I bet all those guys got cancer or had babies with defects.

What a way to test this radiation theory..seems that anyone is expendable as much now as back then..is the US government actually determined to destroy itself from within? Because it seems to be doing a damn good job of wrecking it's own environment through bombs or population movements.
