Maddy Prior ( blue dress ) looks totally non-plussed at times. : ) I saw Dick Gaughan in concert about 10 years ago, where he performed Freedom Come All ye - and he was incredible.
@christianmachafolk Oh, although I'm a Scot, I am not in the least pugilistic.
I'm a pacifist. I like irony, hence the name. : / I suppose it might have been Turner's famous painting, The Fighting Temeraire, which inspired it. ; )
This is great stuff. I only wish Dick would go back to making studio albums something like this though... the recent few have been a bit hit & miss imo.
I love both these songs. "Let the love of our lands' sacred rites to the love of our people succeed. Let friendship and honour unite and flourish on both sides the Tweed..." As someone from Newcastle with a Scottish mum & an English dad, those sentiments mean a lot to me...
The melodic, rebellious, Edinburgh born, troubadour - may he sing his songs forever...and may they echoe forever!! in our hearts and our minds...I love you Dick...us Lothian lads have a bond!
i love dick gaugan! my favorite memory of traveling in england is hearing in him play in a tiny pub in a residential part of london. this was in late 1991. i had only ever heard him in big halls in the states, so it was an amazing treatl. i had tears in my eyes, he was so overwhelming and powerful up close. what a musician, what a personality.
Thanks very much for your film from Brampton. One of these years I'll eventually get around to visiting the festival myself. I recently saw Dick Gaughan again in London .... he was superb, as usual. Could you please give us all, from left to right, the names of the others up there accompanying him ? Am I right in thinking that Kathryn Tickell and Eddi Reader are amongst them ? Thanks again !
and so say all of us.

I can do without the corny girly chorus. And tell that scruffy bugger to get his hands out of his pockets. He looks like he's playing with himself.
To paraphrase a famous quote about Tina Turner - Maddy Prior's great but imagine if she was your nan.

He's being super-cool. The scruffy tink.

I've heard that the Scots are considering this song to be in the running for their national anthem.
