This is why I love Etheridge Knight. When most black poets write about race it gives liberal white readers a vague sense of unease. It's as if the poet does not want to offend, but still wants to enforce the fact that there is a racial wall. (I cannot guess how such poetry makes black readers feel.) Knight writes like he does not give a damn how you feel, or who is reading him. It's about race, but it's beyond race. It's about life - - ugly and raw. Do I make sense? Probably not, but I tried.
You are wonderfully AMAZING! I heard this from Poetry Speaks. I truly wish "Belly Song" will one day be posted- Knight is one of my ultimate favorite poets and his readings leave me spellbound each time.
Etheridge K. is one of my favorite poets. I especially like this poem. I was just thinking about this poem and it's amazing that someone has it uploaded. Thanks for uploading.
