But, the volume sold of the car isn't an influence on the actual award. It is solely the opinions of the journalists who reviewed the car in question. At the end of the year, some of the award's winners or runners up will also sell well by the virtue of being very good vehicles. Some might very well flop in the market, but that doesn't take away their merits as a vehicle.
Now, lest you twist my words again, numbers sold may not be an influence on the journalists, but PRICE is.

Car journalists won't have known the statistic since the title was given early in the year. They always neglect brand prestige, total cost of ownership, and dealer network to make their choice. Even though Genesis is a good car, inside and out, it's a very expensive car for a Hyundai and some luxury features are either missing or ill-advertise.
It won North American Car of the Year (voted by 50 auto journalists and writers from across U.S. and Canada). How is that being behind the competition?

IMHO...Interior-wise it's better than BMW. About the same as Acura. Maybe not as good as Lexus. Definately better than Infiniti/Lincoln.
Engine-wise Hyundai's Tau V8 is in Ward's "Top 10 Engines for 2009". It beats BMW's 4.8L V8 and destroys MB's 5.0L V8. I think Lexus's 4.6L V8 is about tied with it.

I have to say I totally disagree w/ popular mechanics- I sat in a loaded genesis sedan this past january and i can honestly say I felt the quality of the materials and the comfort level was better than that of the Audi A8 I sat in afterward.
It doesnt have to be...the dash materials felt softer, there were no trim edges anywhere (where the plastic had been molded), there were various leather surfaces...When I sat in the Audi (which had a very nice interior as well), I was not as impressed..especially considering it costs twice as much.

u do realize the coupe's engine is a 4b engine, which is the same as the evo's, which kicks the shit out of the wrx. its just detuned in the coupe so its worthwhile to get the v6. this is going to be an easy engine to tune. ur going to be seeing videos of insane coupes not long after its release.
I've owned two Tiburons over the past few years. No problems at all, except a clutch problem that plagued all Audi clutches (which were used in the 2004). Great ride, great quality, fantastic looks (still turns heads everywhere I go), and works great in the winter, with or without snow tires. The fully loaded V6 Coupe is my next purchase this May. It was a tossup between this and a Porsche Boxster, but the Coupe is more practical for my wife and I (at least until it's time for a 2nd car).
just thought I'd let you know that the problem with the tiburon's clutch (and also audi's) is that they added a spring that gave it a "better" feel, it can be easily removed within a coupe of minutes and corrects the problem. It is added for novice drivers because it is easier to shift using it.
Really!! I was always wondering what the problem was. Someone else told me it was something more serious, and that swapping the clutch out wouldn't necessarily fix it. I dunno. I do know that a clutch doesn't go at 30,000K, at least none I've ever driven. Hyundai refused to pay for it obviously. Wear n' tear piece. So I bought a new clutch, found a 6 month old flywheel from a crashed 06 Tiburon, and had my guy take care of the entire thing for $700.00. Not a bad fix.
It still surprises me that the perceived quality of Hyundai is still so low. Don't get me wrong. I don't think they are at the top of the list, but they're definitely not at the bottom and haven't been for a while. I personally think they have a bad rep for no real reason. So they make cars that mimic other brands. A lot of brands have cars that mimic other brands. Again, not that I think they're the best, just surprised at the comments for this car.

Yeah, they're figuring out cars pretty quickly. They've moved up from what they started out as to this. I think the Coupe looks brilliant, but that's just me. For a starting point 300hp, RWD, and Independent Rear Suspension at that price is hard to beat.

The difference between you and me NigguhJason, is that I can compare this car to a Porsche Boxster S in terms of ride stability and performance.....purely because I've actually driven both. I've also driven Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, you name it (that's what happens when you're good friends with the owner of T.O.'s biggest exotic rental agency). So driving an Acura or a Honda won't change my mind, you see? I'm comparing it to cars MUCH higher end than that. And it is a sweet ride.

But, the volume sold of the car isn't an influence on the actual award. It is solely the opinions of the journalists who reviewed the car in question. At the end of the year, some of the award's winners or runners up will also sell well by the virtue of being very good vehicles. Some might very well flop in the market, but that doesn't take away their merits as a vehicle.
Now, lest you twist my words again, numbers sold may not be an influence on the journalists, but PRICE is.

What does tell you about the company? What are they going to do with the used cars, that was returned to them? Profit lost right there. if you look at the sales figure, Hyundai sold more vehicles in 2008 than Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Saturn, Pontiac, Buick etc. Hyundai is growing alot faster than you think. also the hyundai genesis sedan was the 2009 North American car of the year. so its not exactly a peice of shit car like you describe it.

Car journalists won't have known the statistic since the title was given early in the year. They always neglect brand prestige, total cost of ownership, and dealer network to make their choice. Even though Genesis is a good car, inside and out, it's a very expensive car for a Hyundai and some luxury features are either missing or ill-advertise.

Also, the Genesis was in the list of NADA "Top 5 Luxury Cars for 2009". You know who else was on the list? Audi A8 ($75k), Jaguar XF ($65k), MB S550 ($90k) and Bentley Arnage ($225k).

Well, you fail at comprehensive reading (again NADA's "Top 5 Luxury Cars of 2009", which is NOT BASED ON PRICE).
IMHO...Interior-wise it's better than BMW. About the same as Acura. Maybe not as good as Lexus. Definately better than Infiniti/Lincoln.
Engine-wise Hyundai's Tau V8 is in Ward's "Top 10 Engines for 2009". It beats BMW's 4.8L V8 and destroys MB's 5.0L V8. I think Lexus's 4.6L V8 is about tied with it.
It won't win over everybody, esp what many people call "BMW Snobs".

I have to say I totally disagree w/ popular mechanics- I sat in a loaded genesis sedan this past january and i can honestly say I felt the quality of the materials and the comfort level was better than that of the Audi A8 I sat in afterward.

It doesnt have to be...the dash materials felt softer, there were no trim edges anywhere (where the plastic had been molded), there were various leather surfaces...When I sat in the Audi (which had a very nice interior as well), I was not as impressed..especially considering it costs twice as much.

u do realize the coupe's engine is a 4b engine, which is the same as the evo's, which kicks the shit out of the wrx. its just detuned in the coupe so its worthwhile to get the v6. this is going to be an easy engine to tune. ur going to be seeing videos of insane coupes not long after its release.

I've owned two Tiburons over the past few years. No problems at all, except a clutch problem that plagued all Audi clutches (which were used in the 2004). Great ride, great quality, fantastic looks (still turns heads everywhere I go), and works great in the winter, with or without snow tires. The fully loaded V6 Coupe is my next purchase this May. It was a tossup between this and a Porsche Boxster, but the Coupe is more practical for my wife and I (at least until it's time for a 2nd car).

just thought I'd let you know that the problem with the tiburon's clutch (and also audi's) is that they added a spring that gave it a "better" feel, it can be easily removed within a coupe of minutes and corrects the problem. It is added for novice drivers because it is easier to shift using it.

Really!! I was always wondering what the problem was. Someone else told me it was something more serious, and that swapping the clutch out wouldn't necessarily fix it. I dunno. I do know that a clutch doesn't go at 30,000K, at least none I've ever driven. Hyundai refused to pay for it obviously. Wear n' tear piece. So I bought a new clutch, found a 6 month old flywheel from a crashed 06 Tiburon, and had my guy take care of the entire thing for $700.00. Not a bad fix.

It still surprises me that the perceived quality of Hyundai is still so low. Don't get me wrong. I don't think they are at the top of the list, but they're definitely not at the bottom and haven't been for a while. I personally think they have a bad rep for no real reason. So they make cars that mimic other brands. A lot of brands have cars that mimic other brands. Again, not that I think they're the best, just surprised at the comments for this car.

Yeah, they're figuring out cars pretty quickly. They've moved up from what they started out as to this. I think the Coupe looks brilliant, but that's just me. For a starting point 300hp, RWD, and Independent Rear Suspension at that price is hard to beat.
