  • This is crap! I can write better with might right hand!

  • What's the big deal? I can write that too

  • Daniel Day-Lewis sure has aged badly.

  • I did the same but with my left testicle.

It was amazing, I solved Pythagorean Theorem and then my Girlfriend suck on it and then it acted all palsy.

  • the oul fella was great in this

  • I watched this at my school lOL awW I feel happy for him :D

  • He had cerebal paulsy and it was based on a real autobiography (IE. a true story)

  • all i can think of is stewie goin

"my left foot, always gets me where i need to go"

  • @blackserenade24 lmao.... me too.

  • Thats pretty touching and stuff, but if he's such a genious then why didn't he just spell "mom?"

  • @applejackman Are you for real?

Who said he was a genius? He was just a guy striving to overcome his disability,he more than likely went for the longer word so that it couldnt have been mistaken for any other word, and perhaps because he wanted the greater challenge.

  • @comanchio1976 Well...no not really, I was just kidding.

  • Cerebral Palsy for Dummies

  • The kid playing young Christy Brown (Hugh O'Connor) is very good, but Daniel Day-Lewis is absolutely phenomenal!

  • My left foot, its always better then the right one......

  • Teach Me How To Palsy

  • They should put him to sleep. That animal.....

  • ja hat er pech gehjabt n

  • could someone please tell me what this has to do with daniel day lewis?

  • @FERRELL1138 That was the actor who played Christy Brown as an adult.

  • was the boy nominated?

  • whats the significance of "a mother"?

  • so is daniel day lewis the kid drawing the triangles??

If so, he's an amazing actor...

  • which one is daniel day lewis?

  • @chaz3345 He's not in this scene, he plays Christy Brown as an adult. The young boy playing Christy Brown here is Hugh O'Conor.

  • @chaz3345 The child who drew "Mother".

  • Fucking spastic.

  • @gaelicscots yeh, I know you are

  • no singing? Damn you, Stewie Griffin!

  • "This is Christy Brown.My son.Genius."

    Brilliant ^^

  • He wrote moth. Weird kid.

  • the young boy actor and Danial day lewis made a perfect acting of all times

  • I hope he's gonna clean that mess up.

  • I don't get it.

  • @NormbrettaMod He had no education to this point and everyone assumed him to be mute and retarded. This is the moment that they realised that he was a genius who subsequently went on to become a writer and Artist all with just the left foot. He wrote the book, My left foot. Good movie, inspiring story.

  • @sugarraygras Wow, it's amazing how much people throw the word 'genius' around. People have just transformed the word so it doesn't even resemble it's original meaning anymore. The man was unique and his will and determination should be celebrated but he was a great distance from having genius intellect.

  • @cwestsupporter Sorry god, I wont say it anymore. Lord of semantics has spoken.

  • @cwestsupporter Every definition of genius is different. You can't tell someone otherwise. Just because they may have a disorder whether it be mental or physical, the definition of genius will always change from person to person. You can't judge someone that way. Sure there are super smart people, but does any one person deserve the title of genius?

  • @oceanmist4444 If the definition changes from person to person, doesn't that make it impossible to distinguish between a genius and one who's not?

  • could someone please tell me..?what does this video have to do with Daniel day Lewis?..

  • @FERRELL1138 He is the boy....

  • @hell5309 Every single person has their own understanding and definition of a word.

  • sweet such a good movie

  • ahhahahhaahhahahahhahhhaha

  • at 3:28, what the father really said was "let's hit with the shovel and bury him in the garden"

  • that was very moving..... great acting on the part of the boy playing "Christy"

  • his eyes at 2:30 are so overwhelming, so expressive, that kid definitely deserves a jar, anyone knows the kid's name? ... the actor of course, he is amazing¡

  • @zeroyksi it's daniel day lewis. one of his first films. he really is one of the best actors ever to live.

  • @budbluhm no it's hugh o'connor who played christ brown as a child. daniel day-lewis alluded to him in his oscar acceptance speech.

  • any person that doesnt agree that that peice of acting, film making and directing is nother better than truely great hasnt got one clue about movies.

  • wheres the song and dance???

  • Comment removed

  • como se llama la pelicula??

  • My Left Foot (Mi Izquierdo Pie in Spanish??)

  • I love Paddy. "There. Now THATS a triangle"... It's like He's drawn a modern masterpiece.. the very definition of Triangle on his floor. See his egotistical nature again later on in the film when he's building the room out the back.

  • i'm getting get choked up now after watching it

  • what an athelete!

  • I haven't seen this film in about 12 years but I can remember it all. Made me cry so much and I was about 10years old.

I read the book a few years ago and wept so much.

One of the best film scenes. The acting is briliant all round.

I hear that his wife mistreated him. The man should've been treated like a king.

  • yeah I was about 8 when I saw it, can't wait to see it again 15 years later

  • Great movie. Great story. that Christy was one heck of a guy.

  • Truly Amazing film - and you knew what word he was trying to write - willing him on to write it. Bawled my eyes out watching this film.

  • My kids who are 12 and 15 watched this with me recently. They sat for nearly two hours and didn't speak a word.

This is a truly amazing and inspiring film

  • what an amazing film & performances - in the words of Nietzche - "human - all too human"

  • aww man tht snooks

  • makes me cry everytime :')

  • "this man deserves a jar!", what a line.

  • The display of love for his mom in this scene is overwhelming. Well done to the actors. I tried, but I cannot watch this scene without shedding a few.

  • When I first heard about this role, I couldn't understand how someone could win an Oscar for playing someone who could only control his left foot. Now my doubts are gone. I salute you, Sir Lewis!

  • The kid was the talented Hugh O'Conor.

  • Daniel Day Lewis plays the adult Christy in the same film: no idea who this kid was. Christy Brown became an artist

using his left foot to paint, write or do

    anything with .

  • indeed i have....

all of which he was rather poor in. bar R+J, he was standable in that. sorry mate, but i just dont rate him.

  • Young Christy Brown was amazing! Wondeful performance, perfect fit to Mr. Lewis' own.

  • Amazing performance, never fails to bring a tear to my eye. Amazing actor.

    I love DDL also.

  • i love when he kicks in the door and says christys a genius.

  • He is proud of his son, so he takes him to the local pub, and buys him a drink to celebrate: "this man deserves a jar". So Irish.

  • Best handicapped performance? Lt Frank Slade (Al Pacino's Scent of a woman) vs. Leonard Lowe (De Niro's Awakenings) vs Raymond Babbit (Dustin Hoffman's Rainman) vs Christy Brown ( Day Lewi's My Left Foot)

  • you....life

    lol jk

  • daaaaa

  • whats eating Gibert grape - De'caprio was fantastic....the only film he has ever been good in

  • hoffman

  • This is how disabled kids were treated in those days.

I knew a writer named Bill Rush who was paraplegic. He didn't even have Christy's level of mobility. He said one of the biggest challenges of his life was trying to prove to the world that he was intelligent.

  • Man, this is so inspiring! What a great movie.

  • In this scene, you can see Hugh O'Conor in his role as "Young Christy Brown".

Daniel Day Lewis played the leading role (as "Christy Brown") and won the oscar for it. He isn't shown in this clip

Hugh O'Conor won the "Young Artist Award" for his acting-skills but no oscar.

  • ha its funi at da end "christy brown my son GENIOUS!!!!!"

  • I had never heard of Daniel Day-Lewis before I saw this film but I remember exactly where I was when I heard he had won the Oscar for his performance; I was at work, and I cheered.

  • and then became daniel plainview

  • This Kids Deserves A Jar

  • @bonyapo A Jar of shit! :-)

  • Cette enfant mérite une bière

  • Daniel Day-Lewis. What a ridiculously good actor. Although, that child who plays it earlier in the movie does a great job too.

  • man i think this film is really sad much tragedies happen ):

  • Please do not think Christy Brown's life was tragic. He wanted to paint and to write novels and poems, and that is precisely what he did. Here was a man who had the strength and the courage to be true to himself.

  • wow he was a great actor even as a kid

  • tats not day lewis ya titt

  • I found that out earlier dude, sooooo

  • dont call me dude

    ya yanky prick

  • Learn to spell you fucking paddy oik.

  • No 1 person can change the world, its these little triumphs in life that make life worth living! thanks for posting.

  • It's a poor Irish family with 6 children, they can't afford a wheel chair.

  • Possibly one of the best movie scenes ever.

  • reminds me of when he was in the well in TWBB

  • could someone please explain what this is cuz I have never seen this

  • Its a film about Christie Brown played by Day Lewis. Christie was a cripple but could use his left foot and eventually became a famous writer and artist, this film is about his determination to prove himself and his success in later life, very moving.

  • I had to know this movie inside out for my leaving certificate :D

  • Damn, that was daniel day lewis? I can barely even recognize him!! Truly one of the ultimate Method Actors!

  • lol.

  • No, Daniel Day-Lewis played the adult Christy Brown. The Christy you see here was played by a child actor (who was 14 years old at the time) named Hugh O'Conor.

  • Ahh... thank you. For a while there I thought DDL could change appearances too. lol

  • I wouldn't be surprised if he could. lol

  • amen to that!

  • Where can I get the sound track to My left Foot?

  • On Amazon(dot)com.

  • i wanna watch more! its soo touching...

  • that is one of the most beautiful movies I saw!!

  • that is such an amzing acting ability he is so beautifully gifted its a shame that actors like tom cruise and leanardo di caprio dont take inspiration from someone like him

  • tom cruise, i'll grant you that, but Di Caprio has really grown from his basketball diaries / titanic days. Di Caprio has taken on so many great rolls and is now imho one of the best actors around, just like DD Lewis or Philip Seymour Hoffman

  • I totally disagree i thik Di Caprio is a an actor that absorbs too much spotlight he doesnt own the role or make it his own like lewis he plays second party to it. I would say the only new generation actor that can perform like classic actors to the catogary of Lewis would be Heath Ledger who now is sadly missed.

  • I'm gonna have to agree with stedewi on the Leo Dicaprio note. e has really grown on me (and I used to HATE him)

  • what about Born on the 4th July?!

  • that boy portrays the frustration of the character so well... only 10 minutes in the flim, but it was amazing.

  • pardon me, im a bit young to remember, but that kid (christy) is daniel-day lewis?

  • no, DDL replaces the young actor later in the film

  • I love this scene in the movie. Brenda Fricker's reaction is perfect. So heartwarming!

And the young actor, Hugh O'Connor, did a wonderful job as young Christy. He only had about 10 minutes, but he was memorable!

  • Dis man deserves a jaaaaaaaar OF OIL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • haha! of OIL??....hehehe oh god u got me laffin about a disabled person! hee hee...u mean man you. ...(still giggling)

  • lol you punked him!

  • Ah where is DDL? Was he that boy? I need a milkshake.

  • I believe that young actor's name is Hugh O' Connor.

  • My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown is a 1989 drama film directed by Jim Sheridan and starring Daniel Day-Lewis. It tells the story of Christy Brown, an Irishman born with cerebral palsy, who could only move his left foot. The film also stars Ray McAnally, Brenda Fricker, Fiona Shaw, Alison Whelan, Kirsten Sheridan, Declan Croghan, Eanna MacLiam, Marie Conmee and Cyril Cusack. It was adapted by Shane Connaughton and Jim Sheridan from the book of the same name by Christy Brown.

  • Try Wikipedia.

  • this movie is about determination overcoming adversity

  • He drinks your milkshake with his foot

  • sluuuuuuurpp!

  • HAHA

  • DoctorZaius has got it right

  • and what the fuck does this have to do with daniel day lewis?

  • Daniel Day Lewis played the part of Christy Brown, the left-foot kid, later in the movie when he is all grown up.

  • ahhhhhh I see thank you

  • i was just about to sing that

  • Not everyone in the world uses the word "Mom", particularly not the IRISH, idiot.

  • calm down. it was a joke.

  • calm down. it was a joke.

  • He's a Danzig fan

  • Haha!! Yeeeahhh!!

  • My mom and uncle once cried during this scene when I was a kid. I never understood that until I saw this scene today....great movie.

  • He's got cerebral palsy. He's paralyzed, except for his left foot.

  • Wonderful clip - it made me cry. Brenda Fricker got an Oscar, (so did Day-Lewis) - a great movie.

  • is the actor the same hugh o'connor who killed himself in '95?

  • no, this kid is Hugh O'Conor and is about 13 years younger.

  • crying @ 3:10

  • same

  • brilliant kid! who was he?

    this scene mad me cry!

  • same here

  • excelente

  • Daniel Day Lewis, brilliant, his acting knows no bounds, I thought he was 12 years old here. Brilliant.

  • This kid is NOT Day-Lewis.

DD-L plays Christy Brown when grown-up.
