@gwfactions2 Because he hits it with a lot of speed. Have you ever tried hitting it hard with it facing straight or up because that would fly out of bonds if you hit it really hard. It's basic physics.
@gwfactions2 the angle puts topspin on the ball making it go higher over the net and drop sooner, then bouce up toward your opponet(compared to a flat ball)
Wow, you can really tell why Fernando Gonzalez forehand is harder. I've always liked roddicks flat forehand, but Gonzalez gets way more body into his shots.
Now that Roddick's fitter and lighter, I really like his chances in the clay court season and I think he can make at least the 4th round of Roland Garros if he can forget his last few results.
not really his main strength is his serve and serving is hard on clay plus americans hate clay courts theres only one american thats good on clay but forgot his name lol
Roddick is about power; clay is obviously the last court on which he will be effective. But who knows with the performance he showed at Wimbledon and his new fitness, he could be surprising.
I hope he'll improve his break point conversion percentage during this off season. Also, his service return needs to be more consistant, accurate, and powerful. With a serve like his, a good return game is all he'd need
man, how many times we have to keep hearing amatuers whining..Serving is part of the whole tennis game, maybe the most crucial part. Otherwise, why do we have two serves???
because serves are not like 3 pointers, 3 pointers are more like down the line shots which are more risky. dunks are like smashes and passes are like the rally. you have 2 serves just so u dont get the 2nd one in, any pro can serve, it's not how fast ur serve is. roddick doesn't vary his game as much, why do u think he is in the 1,000's while djo, fed, nad are in the upper 5 and 6ks?
he´s the player i hate to see the most. he plays so tight and ugly. i dont like him a bit. if he didnt have a powerful serve , he would be out of the top 100 for sure.
I disagree with you completely..he wins many points by fighting from the baseline and his forehand can get nasty when he rips it,he beat nadal and djokovic in dubai recently in case you are unaware, each player has their own unique style of playing..
lol oo hes finally rank 8 haha roddick is awesome for his serve i know and hes cool but he can be a real jerk most of the time during the game, and wow he bea tnadal and djokovic, i highly doubt he can do it again or federer, he just doesnt varie his game thats why
roddick does everything federer does, the difference is that roger just does it better and he´s a much better athlete and he has of course,a stronger mental focus..roddick is not one dimentional like many say..he serves insane, has good groundstrokes, uses the slice well, comes to the net..I think with roddick it´s more mental than anything else..i also think he could work harder on his agility and speed..
not many, don´t get me wrong, andy is one of my favorite player´s, but i disagree with you honestly, roger moves faster and is more agile than roddick,it´s a matter of genetic´s..in fact roger is a tremendous athlete..im not trying to you antagonize,ok..i think andy has been faster than he is,but im not saying he´s not slow either..
hahahahhahahahahahahaha. everything federer does? yeh thats why he gets his arse handed to him everytime. Roddick is a good player but hes very one dimensional. He has a big serve, a pretty good forehand (it used to be better) but he has a shit backhand. he is a good athlete though.
he also uses the slice backhand to good effect! and his backhand is not shitty, in fact I think he´s hitting his backhand better than his forehand sometimes, he´s coming to the net more, even though his volley´s can be sloppy sometimes..
wrong wrong. roddicks groundies are really very hard, his muscles are probably worn now. reason being last time he just had to go to the game, serve and hit hard winners. just look at the muscles.
Last time I saw him play he did quite the opposite. Roddick does very little topspin on the ball and puts alot more power. That should mean that he has less margin of error and the balls go deeper
i liked his forehand better when he won the US open...it was much flatter, but much more riskier....now its more consistent and conservative

Many players choke up on the grip, verdasco, wawrinka, many many players do.
it helps some players get more feel of the racket and a good balance point for swing weight

This is the definition of "RawPower"

Why he makes contact with the ball his racquet is angled down, how does the ball go over the net?

tvp900 2 years ago
I agree. his service return whether it be a first serve return, will usually be a top sping forehand, or a slice return.
then for 2nd serves he'll usually always hit a hard topspin forehand, but to me it looks like he ALWAYS hits his returns right back to his opponent.
if he could attack second serves with a more tactile approach, he could win a lot more points.
cj397 2 years ago
Yea that's why Roger beats him because he can return most of his serves so he ends up breaking him.

is that a eastern grip he is using?

a massve drive i like it wish i could play roddick sometimes.
AtobeTanhausser01 2 years ago
drive is like a flat shot-a straight blast instead of adding too much spin.
AtobeTanhausser01 2 years ago
It just means you hit with fairly little spin. His forward swing is straighter than on topspin shots.

I had no idea roddick choked up one inch on the grip on his forehand

i didn't know he held his hand so high up on the racket. interesting

intersting is how andy´s left hand is always vertical and close to his body..i suppose it must be something technical..

isnt the bottom of the hand suppose to be at the end of the grip?

vary his game, that's what, all top 3 players do and that's how they win, not forehand and backhand hard for every shot

but roger has a much better mental game

roddick is own for his fast speed on court
give the man some credit he is a former world no 1
how many people can say that?

Roddicks forehand has no power. Most of his forehands are loopy and land short. All he does now is hit with too much spin and no power.

And you can easily see that he is putting some muscle behind that with his arm and his shirt coming all the way up
