Hi, I was just wondering what a "Dickey" is? You see I'm making a kimono and part of the instructions, say to make a this "thing" that goes under the kimono (at least what what I understand from the instructions). I'm also wondering it that just the under top part @ 4:18.
Sorry for the long post just trying to figure this out.
@macattack352 I think they're referring to the collar piece called the "eri" which I talked about but didn't have for the video. I looked up "dickey" and it looked like collars, so that's as close as I can think. Sorry I'm not much help. If the piece they want you to make looks like a "T", then that's probably what it is.
@jinnyboy8 It's absolutely optional. It may not fit as well, but no one will throw tomatoes at you for not wearing a towel. And sometimes the underthings are necessary for a light colored yukata in which case it may be too hot to wear a towel. I decided to forgo the towel when I nearly passed out from the heat.
Can u do a video for guys. I just got done with Obon and i wore a happi coat this year and next year i wanna be full on yukata and i need to learn the obi and yukata and all this other stuff so can u please help me?
@123freddykrueger Sure. I'll try to get that done soon. I've been meaning too, but I need my sister's help! I'll send you the video when I get it done. :)
can u do a video for like guys. cause i just got done with Obon and im gonna get new kimono so i need to learn how to do it right. i wear a happi coat for Obon but next year i wanna wear a kimono. can u help me?
@sakura851 A yukata slip is basically just a shift (kind of like a victorian chemise) that keeps you from sweating on your yukata. It's not necessary. I usually wear leggings and a tank under mine. :)
@Sakura88Kyuuketsuki I'm half Japanese. The reason I know so much is because I took Japanese dance (The kabuki style) for about 10 years. My sister took for about 15 years (she still takes on and off). :)
i dont want to be rude but the towel is used when the waist is thiner than the the rest of the torse but you dont need one it will actually look better without the towel .
and concerning women with large breasts , you have to resew the collar of the kimono. in japan women with large breasts have the collar sewn in a special way it is not sewn straight but curved which gives a nice shape to the collar hard to explain here but very easy to do yourself it is called "Hatomune eri shitate"
@lukkha1 I use the towel not because I'm particularly thin about the waist. I use it because I'm big around the bum. If I don't use it, the kimono will bunch and looks like crap. Thanks for the tip about the collar.
@MayuSenpai You only have to wear the proper unders if you're wearing a kimono. I suggest a tank top and leggings under a yukata (especially if it's a hot day!).
@Chikoritababy15 They can be a little harder to make look right unless you bind some. For me, (I'm about a 34C), I wear the sports bra you see in the video. It's fairly solvable unless you're really busty. In which case, an ACE bandage is in good order.
@AshNight1214 thanks sooo much! ^-^, I've been so curious about this because I want to wear one some day :P anyway thanks ^-^ and your singing is amazing!
excuse me is there a type of short kimono it reaches about just below the umm mid thigh my cousin was wearing one i didnt know if it was a cosplay one or not
@myradark There is a short kimono known as a hakamashita. It's worn with hakama - a kind of long skirt. Men wear hakama for more formal occasions and also when practising traditional arts. Nowadays women rarely wear hakama - you mostly see it on young women at graduation. The hakamashita is *always* worn with hakama, though... so if you see someone wearing one by itself (i.e. with their legs showing!), it must be cosplay.
That was VERY informative! I live in Hawaii...(island of Kauai to be exact) and we have our Bon dance celebrations every year and in fact I just came back from one today! But anyway I always wondered what thy wore underneath...thanks sooo much for sharing! :)
If it looks the same as a regular kimono, it should go on the same way. If not, I can't really help you. I'm not sure how the cosplay ones are made. Sorry!
I has a Question! ^^ Do you absolutly, positivly, have to have the traditional undergarments under a Yukata? I'm only 4'11 and I'm planning on wearing a Yukata for my birthday this month, and I know it will be hot (Out door party) I was wondering if a can wear the feminine boxer shorts and a work out bra. Will they be alright? I really don't want to wear too much and end up fainting at my brithday @.@
Honestly, I wouldn't. I usually wear a jog bra and shorts under my yukata! Don't worry about unders for that unless you're wearing a white yukata. Happy birthday!
They generally come in S, M, and L, but if you need it larger than what is sold, I suggest getting the largest size you can and altering it/ use it as a pattern and sew your own. The kedashi is pretty easy to sew up, but the jiban is a little more difficult. If you have problems, I suggest finding someone who can sew. Sorry there isn't much more I can help you with.

@Chikoritababy15 Traditionally, women that wear yukata is supposed to be curveless on upper body....
But, it's actually fine, they don't LOOK BAD, it will just be harder to let the collar stay stable

@myradark The short kimono is only cosplay to my knowledge. They're cute, but not traditional. :)

Is it horrible to wear a different color naga-juban? Other than white?
MiZBooDee07 1 year ago
@MiZBooDee07 It's not HORRIBLE, but not necessarily correct. Red can be worn in certain cases, but white is safest.
AshNight1214 1 year ago
@MiZBooDee07 I also forgot to mention that, if you're wearing a yukata that isn't white, you can just wear whatever underneath.
