I think it was enough to point out that the award was given without much thought and accept it humbly rather than adding a negative to a negative. I happen to slightly agree with that last statement of yours, but not likely for the same reasons. I feel that he makes himself too reachable. There is no reason he shouldn't bow in Japan, no reason his kids can't make their own beds, no reason him and his wife can't go on dates and publicly show their affinity for e/o. But it makes him seem less of a figure of power. I think people have to cross him for him to show his tiger side. That is... different than what I'd like to see.

I can respect Obama's philosophy. However, In light of the Afghan War and the relatively premature decision by the Nobel committee, I think the most reasonable thing Obama could have done would have been to respectfully decline the award. This would have shown his recognition of the committee's intent and would have still provided a good bit of exposure for his initiatives. As it stands now, he has accepted an award that is too obviously based on future hope instead of current success.

I think it was enough to point out that the award was given without much thought and accept it humbly rather than adding a negative to a negative. It was an excellent move also to draw attention to what he's trying to do and pointing out that it takes a united world to accomplish, and I don't believe he's doing it for 'p' points. He's honestly emphasizing his intentions to a global audience.

I happen to slightly agree with that last statement of yours, but not likely for the same reasons. I feel that he makes himself too reachable. There is no reason he shouldn't bow in Japan, no reason his kids can't make their own beds, no reason him and his wife can't go on dates and publicly show their affinity for e/o. But it makes him seem less of a figure of power. I think people have to cross him for him to show his tiger side. That is... different than what I'd like to see.

He is a member of this world and he is affected and moved by it. It's evident he wants to change things for the better and weighs the consequences of each measure-- not in 'p' points, but in the effect on the future.
Where as bush was totally disconnected and divisive toward the American people. He USED our military forces for his own purposes. He did little to nothing to effect the world in a positive manner.

I can respect Obama's philosophy. However, In light of the Afghan War and the relatively premature decision by the Nobel committee, I think the most reasonable thing Obama could have done would have been to respectfully decline the award. This would have shown his recognition of the committee's intent and would have still provided a good bit of exposure for his initiatives. As it stands now, he has accepted an award that is too obviously based on future hope instead of current success.

Palestinian attacks should be condemned but only equally with those of Israel. Far more Palestinians have been killed by Israel than the other way around. I really think that without demerit Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa Calcuta´s contributions (which are defitively loable), the Nobel Peace Prize like its name indicate doesn´t should be awarded by "make the world a better place" but "make the world a place more peaceful", both things are differents. Thus, Obama´s nobel peace price is well deserved considering their most recents accomplishments in the international climate! this (I think) is a true and just raison by receiving a such prize!

It is good to see Nobel peace prize committee takes the measurement at a broader perspective to value the Obama's brave initiatives and concrete actions in confronting some of the most challenging issues the world faces. Personally, I think that is the most difficult thing to do. I think it is a unconventional but wise decision by the committee, and I hope this can help Obama keep up his great work!

Look pengcheng. I am a big fan of Obama's too, even though I am against this award. I cannot see that this award helps him either. His detractors will just throw it in his face if he has to use force somewhere. Supporting him in what he is doing is more important than heaping him with meaningless accolades.
I do wish the President all the best, but wish that he would send this award back to Oslo. It is still not too late to do this. Also, world peace is not just about the United States.

Most of the attack type comments below are specifically about President Obama. But, what wrong did he do exactly with regard to this prize? Did he nominate himself? NO. Did he try to influence the results? NO. He only won the prize, surprisingly, and accepted it saying that he did not feel he deserved it. Come on people, if you hate him you hate him for another reason. Don't jump on this prize thing as some justification for your preexisting dislike. At least be honest.

Leave it to Americans to not appreciate what they've got- a great president that most of the rest of the world envies. I'm amazed how my country managed to accomplish national health care for all citizens, gay marriage from coast to coast. government paid abortions and to keep the separation of church(or mosque or temple) and state. ,complete eradication of the death penalty and maintain a level of gun control. I envy not having your president but not your country.

President Obama is not just saying things he's also doing things unlike some people. There are many things he has done in just 9 months in office. Respect your President and stop the American disrespect and cruelty. People should be happy about getting a public option for healthcare, or affordable college for their children, or cleaner energy for a healthier world. His motives and beliefs are right on target. And he believes in diplomacy and world peace. Yes, he deserved it.

I believe his progress in speaking with diplomats and leaders from other Nations, along with his motivation to instill peace to Palestine and Israel. He may not be all there yet but he doesn't have very much support from Americans right now. It's easy to label someone with authority as a control figure. Health reform will cut spending. He actually says he's cutting taxes not raising them. Cap&Trade is about saving our environment but should be improved. You should read Audacity of Hope.

I wouldn't call it an apology tour. He's not abandoning Israel, he's saying he won't tolerate how the treat Palestinians. We cannot tolerate a world of terror anymore. I know activists who've been to the Middle East and the Palestinians are not free to move they have to climb over rooftops to get to work and school. Children are starving. We're in a recession and it's going to take a lot of work to get the Nation moving again. I don't know much about Cap&Trade though sorry.

Its not about getting everything you want. Its about taking those small steps towards the promises you made during your campaign. He has not taken any of those steps, and the ones he has taken are towards the exact opposite of what he preached about during his campaign.
The last 8 presidents all did the same thing. Make promises like crazy during the campaign but as soon as they got in, it was right back to business. So one must ask, who is running the show then?
