Normally, both the video AND audio of your pieces are good, so already you're miles ahead of most. You care enough to make sure the audio is decent. Bravo.
this one hits home, took alot of shy years and feeling this constantly befor realizing a smile nod, & hello go a long way.
It doesn't always work out for the best, a lady in Shop Rite hissed at me while I was just walking past her with a smile. For real, she hissed at me, WTF is that!?!
Still, that same smile nod & hello got a stock clerk to open a register just for me.
It works, & honestly, is the least we can do to get along. Not gonna let a hissing lady change my mind on that one.
As far as connecting, let's also remember Raekwon's lines, the ones that came before the ones used for the title of this video: "Time is runnin' out, it's for real though..."
i think thats why facebook has become so damn popular, to connect one-on-one is a dying art that is becoming more and more rare as online social networking takes over.. it scares me.... more than starting a random conversation with someone :)
by the way I stumbled on your vids by accident but you have a wicked style and execution of your ideas on video, keep up the good work bro
@Contrastique I think it's more commonly translated as "staircase wit" or "wit of the staircase" (and is often spelled without the Ls (esprit d'escalier))
Dude, you need a TV show or something.. your word needs to get out! We've been sending your vids around Facebook to a few people.. amazing. I'll email you for more info.
i remember once liam gallagher walked right past me. serious like less than a foot away and i just froze. looking back all i wanted to say is "hey i love oasis always been a fan and (lol) between you and blur it was always you". then i would of carried on walking. it took me like 20mins to wirte this as i was really fucking drunk
for 2010? We just elected a president in 2008...it takes 4 years for another election and Hillary is a democrat. Which means no democrat will run against another democrat President Obama.
You said "What a idiot"? I think you mean what AN idiot. And you're right I am 61 years old and I have senior moments, and I am AN idiot. But, you my friend seem mean and intolerant and a little hateful.
ya gotta open up your horizons young man and drop your preconcieved notions of who should do what and shed your predjudices. I am a gen y spirit trapped in a baby boomer body.
I can definitely respect that! I can't help but have preconcieved notions sometimes....it's just one of those things. I actually have alot of respect for ya :)
Stephy71487, and I am sure you could feel the love from me when I responded to you. If not it was there, I was responding as if you were my family. And seriously be aware of believing generalizations and stereo types.
damn...If the chance comes up again, you should just give the earnest yet sub universal effective head up expression. Personaly...if I was in Mr. Chappelles line of view, I know my arms would've been in the air, and a sparkly grin on my face would be like " ha..YO!! DAVE CHAPPELLE!!!" - natural reactions would be a laugh followed by a wave or a peace sign thrown up, who know's might get invited to hang about ay? lol...the adknowledgement in affinity respect is note worthy...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
geez, this guy is nuts... why would u be hesitant about a female thinkin you hit on her? it's a compliment TO her....even if shes a snob, you didnt do anything wrong, as a matter of fact, she should be flattered....and if she gets an attitude about it, EVEN IF YO WEREN'T HITTING ON HER, and she tries to punk you out on account of her perception, then ether the cunt with verbal slaughter for being a stuck up twat,,
Well, one of the points of the video is we SHOULD try and make the connection when we feel that instinct.. but that being said, the fact that such disdain and hatefulness as you offered here is often lurking underneath when a guy hits on her is a perfect example of why she might have her guard up when she is approached.. If she knows she might get called a "cunt" and a "twat" for not giving an answer that meets your standards, how could she not be wary of starting a convo lol
get in contact with dave about this one, he'd find you very funny. if im ever in new york and i see you ill say hi just to switch things up a little bit and do my part to make the world go around
It's funny you say this, because I read a comment on a blog entry that linked to one of your videos and a girl recounted this story of how she'd seen you around New York and wanted to say 'Hey' but chickened out.
You know I tried to honor our connectedness once told a woman...I said....I said "Hey....You have a very nice shape" and she looked at me like I shook my dick in her face and said *nothing* to me. Felt the whole day like I said something wrong. Did I say something worng? IDK. NY is full of people with defenses.
here's my 2 cent answer, let's say you wanted to give her a sincere clean compliment. In NYC especially women are hit-on and propositioned usually only for physical sexual reasons if you give a compliment and mention shape its like saying "hey i wanna f$ck you" even if you don't mean it. so IMHO go on an keep talking but don't mention "shape" talk face, or eyes, color of clothes, if you get into conversation, maybe she'll be the type that will feel comfortable with you being that honest. peace!
It's too bad this is so one-way, cause lots of us are out here watching you, but you don't get to talk with us. But hey, thanks for your bits of wisdom.
That was some deep thought. I hate it when that happens as well. The part where you rationalize not starting a converstion with someone by saying that the person may think you're hitting on them is classic! Good work! I like your thought process. I appreciate more of it.
man i saw the game one time surrounded by an entourage and body gaurds shopping at M & N. it was my b-day, i just got a new cam and i hear comment on it, saying like who walks around with cameras? (it was a flipcam i was 1 like 19 sh!t was cool) i wanted to tell him why but i too looked away could've at least asked for a b-day wish on my personal cam. i was a fan of his music, even had some shit b4 he was g-unit, just not a fan being played which is what seemed like would've happened.
Wow. Thank you. Everyone thinks these things all the time, but you put it into understanding and and you analyze things and that helps us learn. Its amazing.
lol I tend to do the connectedness, and made some friends because of it. Even if not a friendship, its nice just to chat with those around me. Sometimes people act like 'who is this freak?'
thats on the same tip of dont doubt your self. everyone need to go check out lcbabiee vids about doubting your self same message different wording. peace.
Yo ya vids are greatness. Remember having the same feeling when I seen Iverson on Temple Campus & punked out of actually saying wassup to him. Sadly he got traded a couple years later and that was the one time I would've had a moment to actually have a convo with the man :(
I'm surprised to hear you use the term "punked", especially after watching your thoughtful statements on homosexuality & gender in hip-hop. Equating gay folk to being ineffectual and weak?
I love your blog and agree wholeheartedly, J. Case in point: yesterday as I was walking towards BART I passed a middle-aged woman who was wearing this pretty coat. She, along with everyone else on the street, was in full-on places-to-go-people-to-see tunnel-vision walking mode. I stopped her, braving the look of mild alarm she had on her face, and complimented her on her coat. She surprised me with a beaming smile transformed the day for both of us. So little real risk, such reward.
It's amazing how the fear of rejection can just rule you in ways you totally don't expect.
I imagine my words as bubbles that must escape lest my head explode for not expressing my thoughts. Sounds silly, I know, but it helped me become less introverted.
In reality you either are really introverted, not in the mood, or really cannot stand people. When I say you, I mean people in general. At least that's what I see. That makes everyone pretty much unapproachable. Any ideas on breaking that cycle?
I understand exactly where you are coming from. Sometimes I actually do make the "connectiveness" but end up not building upon the conversation its fully potential. I think that's even worse.
at my old job i served many celebrities, most of the time i was too shy to say much. i didnt want to make them uncomfortable. the few times i did they were very kind.

For those of you who don't know, it means: "The stairwell thought."
