Faron was Great in the Golden Age of Country Music. He will always be a Country Music Legend to me. Todays Country is Bubblegum Drugstore Cowboy B/S. George Strait and Alan Jackson are the only ones left. The last to leave Nashville, please turn out the Lights.
Faron had to be in his early twenties if that when this video was taped. He has just a touch of Hank Williams draw but makes the music his own. They will never be another like him love his music.
Faron's style here reminds me a little bit of Carl Smith's style back in the past and he sounds wonderful. I suppose I don't consider Faron "a murderer" in the sense of murdering the country music scene in Nashville's Music Row. For me, he always kept some part of his country sound no matter what music he was doing. I do love Faron. It was good to see Jack Anglin (Johnny and Jack fame) as host here. I love his and Johnny's music too. Thank you for posting. - Paula
Faron started out sounding like Hank, and also doing novelty numbers (like "Live fast"). He did have a bit of the Carl Smith/Eddie Arnold Crooning going on though. Later on, he incorporated Willie Nelson's style (obvious in Nelson-Written songs like "Hello Walls,") and also tinkered w/ Buck Owens kind of nasal drawled style "Country Girl." Still he had his own phrases here & there. I don't consider him
(continued) as original as Hank, Lefty, Webb (even though Pierce was a thief @ times..making songwriters give him writing credit so he'd sing their songs), Ernest Tubb, etc. He Could pour emotion into a song like no other though. You're right too, that he kept it country. He dipped into Nashville Sound a bit, but never got lost in it. I agree, Nashville kind of killed country in the 50's. Replacing steel w/ strings, fiddle to violin sound. etc. Cramer's "Slip note" style was a positive though.
Faron used to be my favorite singer in the 50's, but eventually he became a "murderer" as so many did. What memories this brings. My favoite Faron song is "You're still mine."
I would guess you're referring to "Murder on Music Row" and saying that Faron went pop? He could sing any style and he was good at the Dean Martin/Bing Crosby stuff. He did experiment some, but decided his fans preferred the steel guitars and shuffle beat.
Virtually veryone slicked up their sound in The 1960's My Friend & "Murder on Music Row" is referring to the garbage of today NOT The Nashville Sound of the late 50's through 1960's. Songs like "Hello Walls" are obviously the more modern/slash less hillbilly of the era but Faron never strayed too far from his country roots. Aside from that he was the most gifted singer of his or any era in my opinion & calling him a murder of country music is an insult to a legend & quite frankly ridiculous.
I used to listen to this song on a jukebox, and I bought it on 45. Boy was that a long time ago. Faron still sounds better than any current singer, except maybe Alan Jackson.
i wish there was something us regular people could do about it. singers like taylor swift have made country music all about fashion they have forgotten what country music is about and how important it is to stay true to that. the closest man to keep it all thats still super popular is george strait.
Thanks for this post. I love Faron Young and his eyes or beautiful. The dress and the hair style is just greta. Too bad we dont have this kind of entertainers today.

dont you wish country music was this way again?!?!! thats my dream to fix nashville back to the way it used to be...think its possible???
truecountrydreamer 3 years ago
That's the problem. Too many like Faron committed murder, as in the song, and abandoned the good stuff.

Sure wish singers could sing from the heart like the singers did back then. They were a joy to watch and hear. Pure music. Thanks for sharing these

faron young committed suicide at the age of 64. he was suffering from depression and shot himself.
theoldprospector 3 years ago
He had emphysema which must have severely affected his ability to sing i think as a singer i would be depressed too.
I remember him in a film Daniel Boone singing A Long Green Valley beautiful song.

He was in ill health plus he felt that he was unappreciated by today's country....he was one of the best of all time...my opinion he very underrated

"It's a great life, if you don't weaken, but who want's to be strong". From one of Faron's songs.

does anyone know why faron commited suicide ?
theoldprospector 4 years ago
Can only tell what I heard.Severe pain from prostate surgery.Just couldn't take it.
oscaravery 4 years ago
He also had emphysema from smoking. When your health starts to fail it is hard to see a reason to live. He was a great but lonely man I believe
annie92220 3 years ago
You can read about Faron's life and death in "Live Fast, Love Hard: The Faron Young Story." His suicide was a consequence of his severe depression.
