It's an impressive piece of technology. But, it doesn't deliver in terms of bang for the buck. The cost of building and maintaining this airplane is excessive. Get two F16 with the latest radar and they will cost you less than one F22 and take him out too. Obama was right to stop this mess. The JSF F35 is even worse.

The F-35, F15 Strike Eagle, and F/A-18 Super Hornet are the cost-effective fighters now. They are versatile, and can be sold to other countries. The F22 is the ace in our pocket and we have somewhere around 187 of them, which is more than enough. Please research before showing your ignorance.

$85 million to buy an F22? you obviously have no fucking idea what you are talking about. The piece of shit F35 costs $83 mill. The F15 Silent Eagle costs $100 million.

The flyaway cost for the F22 is $142 million. But this number is under debate, and is usually reported in the news as being $350 million; the total cost of the program ($65 billion) divided by the 187 planes on order.

If you don't even know what it costs, how do you know it's capabilities.

Well A-10 isn't an Air Superiority aircraft, it's a ground attack one. But yes, undoubtedly the A-10 is pretty fucking epic, just saying though, the F-22 is meant to fight other planes, though it can attack ground targets too.

What I am curious to is what we are planning on replacing the rest of the aging F-15 fleet with. Sure, the F-22 is a great airplane but we still need an interceptor force strong enough to rapidly react to 9/11 style attacks. The F-22 gives us that option with its supercruse ability and long range weapons. The F-22 ups our chances of being able to do that tenfold...if having a few more 150 million dollar aircraft on alert will save another 3000 lives...count me in.

I concur. We have 650 F15s in operation right now. We can't replace that many with only 189 F22. Factoring in F16 and F18 being replaced by few F35s.  In my opinion, I feel that we should have simply upgraded our existing fleet of aircraft, and instead create better missiles. Or just wait for the UCAVS to develop for 10 more years until they become a beast of burden in our inventory. Was there really a NEED to replace our planes? Were they being shot down left and right? No.

The only advantage about the f35 is that its has a more modern interior radar capability and so on, but the f22 r4emains the best fighter jet. Really? Then how do you explain the F15 Silent Eagle? If the F15 design is so outdated, why did they make a newer version with a lower radar cross section, that costs more than the F35? It's outdated, but it costs $100 million?

As far as tech goes, they're retrofitting F15s with the AN/APG63v3 AESA, and many people think that "stealth" isn't as hot as the media wants us to think. It CAN use helmet sights, like Israel's F15 fleet. And it can use the same weps. :P

Hmmm i don't think they will use those tanks or any other tanks cause first it compromises "stealth" and second it adds stress to wings which may shorten the F-22's life span..those tanks were just experimental and under testing..don't think you will see them in the future..anyway they can air refuel easy enough anywhere anytime if need be....
