OK, i was using this as a major talking point but a friend of mine really put me in my place.... so the 500,000 children were getting food from the UN in the Oil for Food program... The problem was that Saddam Hussein was pocketing the money and letting the food rot. Agreed Dogstar. Blow back can be attributed for nearly every major attack on our nation throughout it's history. We'd like to think we're helping people and thats how it's sold to the public, but the "leadership" never really can know the unintended consequences. The same goes for domestic policy. They're never judged on results, only good intentions.

I don't know why nobody knows about this, but the Iraq war wound up killing fewer people than these sanctions. They only allowed 1000 calories into the country per person. Not only this, but depleted uranium has left a massive number of those whom it it did not kill completely disfigured and lame.

These children died directly because of sanctions imposed on iraq. It said iraq could not trade, could not bring in food stuffs on less it was an emergency, did not let hospital machines be used because they could potentially be used for weapons, etc.
the child (ages 1-5 i believe) death rates more than doubled after the Gulf War because of these sanctions, not the war itself.
The sanctions only let 1,000 calories per person. Pathetic woman. And she asks why arab countries hate us?
