Harry can kick anybody's ass. THere should have been more movies like Dirty Harry and Magnum Force. Even Sudden Impact. A little less like the Enforcer.
There's a lot of political comments on here for some reason, so I'll add my own views: tougher sentencing and execution for the worst crimes such as rape, pedophilia, and killers while lowering sentencing for lesser crimes. Death Row should last one year in which the Police verify and re-investigate the case to make sure they have the right person. I also believe that if you kill someone in self-defense, which includes someone breaking into your house, then the charges should be dropped.
Eastwood is the only guy I know who can still scare people, stare them down, and out bluff someone at his age. Look at his more recent films for example.
Whole new ball game these days....Funny, i never thought of it as a game.....i love that scene, Callahan always makes Mccabe look and sound stupid in front of people.
@tp4ever1950s He's only 80. He was born on May, 31st, 1930. Trust me, he's my idol and personal hero. He's the reason I want to work in film as an actor/director. :)
I hope the Hollywood idiots arent serious about remaking or continuing the Dirty Harry franchise. Without Clint it's a disgraceful attempt at squeezing money out of a one of a kind character and movies because they dont have an original thought in their heads anymore. Hense all the remakes of movies and TV shows. If they do it I will never watch it.
I agree with lonaticc... Olyphant already doesn't move his teeth when he talks sometimes and he has the perfect stare for the "Go ahead, make my day" move. He is the perfect fit for that role no doubt
If they were ever to pick a new actore to play Dirty Harry, the only guy who could do Dirty Harry would TImothy Olyphant. He did a perfect imitation of Eastwood in HBO's Deadwood series. Check out his character in Deadwood and you'll know what I mean. Smart ass bad ass was TImothy Olyphant. Playing an Eastwood role to the T.
That is very true tillman. How I wish that Inspector Harry Callahan existed so we can elect him as President of the USA and also as Mayor of San Francisco
I disagree and agree with what you said. I dont think the 80s Dirty Harry's have aged well. By that stage i don't think Clint was playing it as seriously as he was in the earlier films. He had become a bit of a caricature of his earlier character. But i think the original film and Magnum Force for film making alone stand up. It was a different time for film making then. They did not have the toys to play with back then as much. But for story and direction and acting, still good!!
I remember in an interview Jackman was talking about how he met Clint. It was in a line for a movie cantine an he started telling Clint about how much he liked then Clint stopped him and said "Hey kid! you're holding up the line"
Best cop ever. He doesn't take crap from anyone. If there is any actor who could reprise one of his hard man characters at the age of 78 its Eastwood.
"Your a dinasour Callahan" We should send Dirty Harry over to Congress. He'll straighten em out. "You wanna raise taxes ... go Communist on the US ... go ahead ... make my day"
Dirty Harry made Clint Eastwood a superstar. It's an excellent movie, with great action, and relentless tension which made this the ultimate detective thriller, and one of the defining films of the 1970's.
Eastwood was already a star before 1971. This was HIS character, though, a type that he basically invented. I would agree that it is a defining film of the 70s because of its theme of the lone man fighting bullshit bureaucracy to try to bring about the positive change that the bureaucracy fails to accomplish. Much to do with the disillusionment with the counterculture like in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
I'm a liberal and I love the Dirty Harry movies. Even though I would disagree with Harry in real life, I know the difference between fantasy and reality. I enjoy these movies as simple entertainment (I have Clint as my computer desktop), and don't go in looking to be offended. I just like to see Eastwood blowing away baddies.
And conservatives who make sweeping generalizations about "Liberals", "the Liberal media", "kids", etc, are morons.
As a "moron," I would point out to you that it is you liberals that are mostly to blame for creating the mess we're in as it relates to the off-the-charts crime epidemic going on.
Perhaps if you're honest with yourself, you'll see that the reason you like Clint and his big gun so much is because deep down you fear the social monsters you and your ilk created, hence seeing them get blown away is in fact a fantasy that you'd like to become a reality (but can't admit it).
The "strident" liberals, and their social Government Programs that is. You know, the ones that are greatly contributing to the 60 trillion dollar national debt we have here in America. Thus, more dollars are printed to maintain the debt's status quo "not filling it mind you" and the dollar's value falls world wide because the market is being flooded with them. Vote Ron Paul for the love of God, and fuck the IRS.
I am a Conservative, voted for Bush, and I couldn;t agree more. The response by "guyNbluejeans" is far right, radical, and down right ignorant. "Liberals" don't create crime...CRIMINALS create crime. Please, don't sound so ignorant and make us other conservatives look stupid.

Why? To be honest the Dirty Harry movies haven't really aged all that well. A remake of one really wouldn't be a travesty or anything.
