@levedia The population has increased from 300'000 to 7'000'000 harp seals in the last 30 years on the east coast of Canada and they are destroying what used to be a booming fishing industry. Because of the lack of fish, fisherman that have been working for hundreds of years are failing to make ends meet and this is simply because the main diet of the harp seal is fish. The biggest reason why they do kill the seals is because there are not enough predators for the seals, they then grow to absurd numbers and kill off the population of fish. People kill the seals for food/population control.

If we stopped intensively breeding farmed animals and grew crops to feed humans instead, we could easily feed everyone on the planet with healthy and affordable vegetarian foods Animals used for food have to consume as many as 16 pounds of grain to create just 1 pound of edible flesh..

Because of the lack of fish, fisherman that have been working for hundreds of years are failing to make ends meet and this is simply because the main diet of the harp seal is fish. Alright, everyone that thinks this is sick need to rethink why they think it! The biggest reason why they do kill the seals is because there are not enough predators for the seals, they then grow to absurd numbers and kill off the population of fish. People kill the seals for food/population control.
Also, the reason why they mostly use bludgeons is because it would cost WAY too much to use a gun, and it kills them just as fast.

Let's face it people, if we look at the numbers, the seals are over-populated for a number of factors, mostly due to climate change. @watch2talk Humans and animals should be treated equally. What if that child instead of dieing of hunger was skinned alive? What would you say then? Bottom line is that everyone should do the right thing for everything. Instead of looking at it in an overpopulated view why dont you think of it of each individual animal having to be bludgeoned to death? 40 million cows are killed for meat in the US alone. 300,000 seals are killed, and your calling seals overpopulated?

@watch2talk FYI: factory farming contributes to world hunger. We funnel huge amounts of grain, soybeans, and corn through all the animals we use for food instead of feeding starving humans. If we stopped intensively breeding farmed animals and grew crops to feed humans instead, we could easily feed everyone on the planet with healthy and affordable vegetarian foods Animals used for food have to consume as many as 16 pounds of grain to create just 1 pound of edible flesh..

This is not something that should be concerning us. The seal hunt is COMPLETELY sustainable. This is far more humane than the majority of saugherhouses and farming techniques used in the rest of the "civilised" world. How dare you wish rape upon the families of these men, working to support they're homes! If you want to see true "heartlessness" go take a look at whats going down in Syria right now. and how is killing anything inhumane? Thats completely unfounded! Have you never swatted a fly?
