@TransformiceManiac well there is no doubt border collies are smart, but perhaps not the smartest. It's more that they are obedient and quick learners, but I think that hunting dogs (which are forced to solve problems and make independant decisions in the field) may be the smartest, they're just so darn stbborn sometimesXD But don't get me wrong, I do love borders, they are very sweet and loving:)

Debating between a Border Collie or a German Shepherd. A German Shepherd doesn't need to be constantly played with like a collie, so less time intensive. But A collie doesn't look stare at me like its saying "Yeah... I could kill you. You know it too hahaha." O_o
@that1guy9207 Seriously? A GSD may just end up needing as much activity as a collie; it depends on the individual dog. If you are worried about personality/activity level, go to a private rescue and get a dog/puppy that has been fostered. They'll be honest about what the dog is like.
@Snelly918 thats ALOT of responsibility....being that thy are agressive breeds and take alot of work to keep healthy.they need tons of excercise and are happier with strict handlers. Also, dont forget that they will die one day and the pain is tremendous. Its will break your heart to pieces.

It still hurts....im warning people that with love for an animal comes the inevitable demise of their beloved pet and it really is hard!

The best dog trainer's are from other dogs:) When I got my GSD my older Shepherd-Collie mix dog trained him how to use the bathroom outside:) I went a hundred times with my GSD dog outside and he was not learning!! 1 TIME my other dog went in front of Zeus then Zeus started to go outside...So, smart that he saw Leche do it once and learned:)
@fwaze Tell her no. Take control. Gsd's need an owner that is not afraid to demand the respect of the dog. Your shepherd needs to know that she can follow you, and trust in you to make wise decisions. It is not very wise to play fight with dogs as it can possibly lead to greater forms of aggression later on in life.

but they can get HUGE so be aware of the moster poops and the dogs size itself.
they have the SECOND strongest dog bite, behind the Rottweiler... so be aware. teeth are sharp and strong and big! be sure to protect yourself from sueing. when you get the dog, get a beware if dog sign so this way if he/she bites someone, you can say that they had a warning. which is true. :] have fun with your German Shepard! good luck
@novideosforme123 you can get those monster poos much smaller :) The amount of poo that comes out of your dog is directly related to the quality of food your putting in him/her. In other words if they can use more of the food they eat for their bodies you won't be picking up as much leftovers on your lawn :P

Why do they sell for as much as 3000? That's just too much =/ I got mine for 300. Im glad someone told me the average price that they're around. Now I know I got a good deal. He's a beautiful shepherd and I always get compliments from real ethusiastic dog owners.
@fatherjon908....The normal coat is what is shown here. There is also a "plush" coat which is a bit longer and thicker. Not recognized as a legitimate GSD coat until very recently, though, is the longcoat GSD. The fur on their backs and sides can be as long as 6 inches, and the fur that hangs down from the tail can be as long as a foot. The fur behind the forelegs is 6-8 inches long , and behind the haunches it can be 8-10 inches. They are absolutely magnificent.
Actually when they get big they are not dangerous if raised correctly. Any dog can be dangerous if they are raised by idiots. Pitbulls have a bad rap that they don't deserve, as do shepherd and wolf hybrids. I happen to have a 6 year old un-neutered shepherd who is a dream dog and 2 wolf hybrids who are still very young. theres no "difference" other than the colors. the silver back is often times a bitch stripe on a female or on a neutered male. it also shows up on certain lines and its called a salt and pepper look.

Love my German Shephard Kaiser Von Nikko! Saved my life Twice once from a seizure he pulled me from my car drivers seat to lay back so I wouldnt choke, and once from a rattler. Love you Kai kai!!

those dogs are really cute i have a ten month old male german shepherd he weighs about 105 pounds, he is very big for his age but he is not overweight

the small one is a neighbor's dog, it's a mix breed, so its not going to be as big as the adult GSD.

theres no "difference" other than the colors. the silver back is often times a bitch stripe on a female or on a neutered male. it also shows up on certain lines and its called a salt and pepper look.
there is no difference other than colors though.
