To all stupid people:An "apocalypse" is not confined to a modern or future setting. An apocalyptic, cataclysmic event can happen during any time period. The post-apocalyptic occurrence for AOE just happens to be in a ancient roman-esque time period.
I think they're supposed to be more modeled on ancient Rome than the medieval era. Possibly to remind players of the theme of collapse, evoking the fall of the Roman empire.
Fallout is an important inspiration, but it's not a clone (the setting seems more ancient Rome than Mad Max). Also, isn't isometric sort of 3D already?
Okay, while I think it's a bit far saying this game looks WORSE than Runescape... I'd have to say the graphics seem roughly on par... I mean, I'd assume it's because this is an old video... but I can't find any screenshots of this game that don't look like the game time traveled here from the early 90s.
Wow, so bad, the dude gets stabbed and all he does is step back. This is a computer game, they could have put some emotion & creativity into the game rather than make it as lifeless as game board pieces.
It's nice, but waaaay to slow. Delaying combat is not a good way to increase overall playing time. Also, reaction to the dagger hits (falling back) wasn't too impressive... It would look much better with blood, IMO.
As much as I respect this effort I have to say that this gameplay footage does not have the atmosphere of the Fallout series. It is a great game and I know how hard you guys work on it and I really appreciate that. However, with this music and these characters, armors and weapons this looks rather like a fantasy rpg with swords and sorcery. Anyways keep it up, if nma supports you, there must be something great in your work!
Well, Fallout was made 2D, which means, everything looks just as good as it is supposed to look. 3D on the other hand, can always be improved. And if 3D isn't at a certain level, it simply doesn't look good. Sure, 3D is a 'technological' improvement over 2D, but I still prefer 2D sometimes because you can do certain styles that you can't in 3D.
Fallout is usually described as "isometric", although other people say it's not technically at the exact angle that term refers to. It certainly wasn't 3D in the sense of having a rotating camera that could also zoom in or out.
Wasteland is 2D. One might also contrast Wolfenstein 3D with Doom. Or to be really weird, Ultima Underworld which had the 2D graphics of Wolfenstein 3D with the 3D world of a Quake or more modern FPS with jumping, looking up and down and so on.
He's trying to explain the difference between a sprited game like Fallout, and a game that uses CGI like AoD. Though what didn't occur to him is that visuals. whether sprited or computer generated, takes time, and they can both be improved to a curtain level.
I hate people who praise one style of graphics, and trashes the other one. Both styles require attention to detail, smooth animation, and it needs to be easy on the eyes. AoD's graphics look fine just the way they are.
Esta bueno... si le agregaran algo más de movimiento a los brazos de los personajes cuando estan quietos, le agregaria mucho más realismo y quitaria ese look de "muñecos"
Humm it reminds me of the old Ultima VI, one of the best CRPGs ever made. I can see a great game here, a true masterpiece. The graphics are OK and the animation is very nice, something rare to see on indie games.
It truly is a shame that many people won't give this game, or any other independent game for that matter, a chance merely because the graphics aren't as *shiny* and *immersive* as some of the more bigger budget games, like Oblivion for example. I look forward to the day I can play this game, and I hope Iron Tower Studio make a nice profit.
I think a lot of people haven't even heard of it, but it is unfortunate that quality games have fallen by the wayside while shininess and hype dominate. Years from now we'll still be replaying Fallout and Darklands while the easily distracted have moved on to shinier things and forgotten all about Oblivion.
I hate games like this. Turn-based combat, or whatever it is, is just not real enough.

Check out the latest video from the game, taken from the Combat Demo that was released past December. I posted it as a video response.

@clownpendotfart nope, 2d built with isometric hexagons.

The musical score is fantastic. Is it actually part of the in game soundtrack? As for the game itself, here are my priorities
graphics < gameplay < story
Gameplay looks fantastic.

I have no idea. You can go to the Iron Tower forums and ask.

As I already said on the forums, it's looking great. I'd like to see a little more blood sometimes, adds to the feel of the game imo.

There is a slider that will increase combat speed. It was set to a low level for this video.

The game is set after an advanced/high-tech civilization collapsed. It is modeled after the Roman empire, the last major civilization to collapse.

There is no sorcery or magic of any sort. There are swords though. It's a bit like the classic game Darklands.

You may want to refresh your memory of Fallout. The sprites aren't very detailed compared to modern graphics.
One thing Fallout had was style, but its graphics could be greatly improved by a higher resolution.
The animations of AoD are somewhat lacking andthe graphics aren't quite as stylish, but they are very detailed.
