  • Europeans and their stupid powdered wigs. white trash

  • Is it me, or is the better version of the movie velmont or valmont how ever you spell it.

  • It's beyond my control... It's beyond my control... I fell so hard for John in this movie :)

  • Valmont is much better! Colin Firth is just charming in it :)

  • cruel intentions is better..

  • Cruel Intentions is not a rip off of Dangerous Liaisons considering they state in the titles that it's based on the novel Les Liaisons dangereuses. Would you say this film is a rip-off of a brilliant novel?

And on the acting in CI, I think all actors did I really terrific job. They are probably the best roles they have ever played and the fact that they were so young makes it even better. Both films are great in their own right. Please stop with your negative and ignorant comments.

  • @kmt1231 If Cruel Intentions is a rip off of Dangerous Liaisons, The Lion King is a ripoff of Hamlet and Ulysses by Jams Joyce is a ripoff of the Odyssey !

  • @kmt1231 Couldn't have said it better myself!

  • the film is well done... problem is when some people (yes the PUAs) indeed start to believe in such myth as the "art of seduction". No fair study has ever confirmed such happening, and I quote most significant researches on this topic on my website.

  • Sorry but, much as I liked John Malkovich playing this part, I would have LOVED to have seen Alan Rickman reprise the role of Valmont. He played him in the stage version and reportedly had many women in the audience lusting after him as a result. Besides, he's better looking and has a much sexier voice.

  • Great movie. Great acting. Really like john M in this hes not the most handsome man but that doesn't matter he has such great charisma.

  • "Rahcel claims this is her favourite movie...."

    "Dangerous Liaisons"

  • @adjam1991 "her actual favourite movie is..."

    " Weekend at Barney's"))

  • @nur12100 indeed

  • @nur12100 "weekend at bernies"

  • I love this play/movie! So many great lines. It just doesn't work in cruel intentions at all.

  • what is the name of this song? i absolutely lov it!

  • @TheKGstudios It's 'The Barber of Seville' by 'Rossini'

  • 1:19 <3 <3

  • This movie is a lot darker than the trailer implies.

  • This movie is much much better than the remake Cruel Intentions. Cruel Intentions is just the trashy version, where it's just about the sex and lesbian kisses. In this, it's about deception and manipulation.

  • One of my all time favorite movies! I'm watching it on Encore right now. :0)

  • This is a movie about the frivolousness age of Rococo started after King Louis 16 and his queen were executed in Versailles.

  • @HeartLocker No, this movie is based on a novel published in 1782, a decade before the monarchs were beheaded. It was in the Louis Seize period, Rococo to architects.

  • Cruel Intentions was better

  • Laclos died in Taranto, Italy, my city, and here there is his tomb!

  • Someone said Rococo, but I'm pretty sure Rococo is more of an art term, not really a term for classifying an era.. Victorian is so called for Queen Victoria. This era could be safely called Georgian I think... For King George right??? Someone help!

  • @HotBroodish You're right, Rococo is an architectural style. Technically speaking, this story does take place during the Georgian Era (1714-1830), as it was written in 1782 and was a contemporary novel, but that really only applies to British history. I would say it's the Bourbon Era, bordering the starting edge of the French Revolution (1789).

  • That movie Rocks !!

  • JOHN MALKOVICH DESERVED THE OSCAR HERE NOT KEVIN KLINE (1988)

  • @aaabbbccd1000 Funny because I always thought he was awful. Alan Rickman and Lindsay Duncan made this play famous between 85-87. They were utterly awesome. Rickman is naturally sexy in a very manly way (I see Malkovich a bit too effeminate). And Duncan's just so regal. Besides, they two were and are more attractive than Malkovich and Close. But of course they were unknown then. I'm sure Rickman and Duncan would have made a better movie. Go and see clips of their work in that play.

  • wooo i we made a teen drama version of this xD it looks like skins :P the acting is pretty awful but check it out please? :) was made for english coursework xD thankyou :)

  • ooh great movie?? what's the name of the symphony?? :)

  • @Eegit Yup, exactly! :))

@Eowyinn Dangerous Liaisons, Requiem For A Dream by legendroxas2. Check it out, you might dig it. (Has spoilers)

  • Both Cruel Intentions and Dangerous Liasions are based on a book written by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos "Les Liaisons dangereuses"....

    Published in 1782.

  • what an awful trailer. does not show ANYTHING of the true meaning of the book and the movie. not to mention the awful choice of music!! it would have suited a comedy, not such a drama!

  • Master Achievement

    Book & Movie

    1 000 *****

  • Lol I am a guy and I wish men dressed more nicely. Nobody cares about their clothes nowadays. Not a big fan on the wigs but I like the coats.

  • One of my all time favorites!

Funny, cheeky naughty, happy sad and all in one cracker of a movie.

  • @Eedgit

    You just said it all!

  • @DaniiDeathEater Thank you :))))

  • @Eedgit

    Your welcome!

  • I want to see this movie! Great trailer!

Does somebody know the name of the song / music at the end of the trailer? :D

  • i haven't seen this one yet but it looks like an older version of cruel intentions! :D

  • @smileychica202 Of course, because these two movies are based on the history of the book of Laclos ( french writer) called "Les liaisons dangereuses".

  • @smileychica202 It is. Cruel Intentions is a modern interpretation based on this book and movie.

  • I wanna see this movie! :)

Lmao and people say women don't respect themselves now-a-days. just look at those cleavage...

We're on the same century protrayed there, just with a more easy-going speaking...

  • @mentonerodominicano

Watch your tongue, women of the past will haunt you for saying such a thing... I might join in ;3...

  • @MadHatter3Z3 "watch your tongue" hahahaha! that's how they speak!

  • this is basically what cruel intentions is based on but in a mordern way

  • why does every fav film of mine has to have a sad ending :(( i cried in the end! it was so so emotional.

  • John Malkovich played Monsieur de Valmont perfecty. Glenn Close was wonderfull as well.

  • "Immaturity." Ha! I love that answer!

  • @Una7654 me too.

  • I love this trailer - the music fits! Too bad the historical setting antedates the Barber of Seville by 30 years! LOL

What a great movie. Malkovich is fantastic, even if not as great as the 2 women. Glenn Close kicks ass in everything she does.

  • whats this movie about????

  • @MissDanielle028 It is rather hard to tell in a couple of words ;) It is an adaptation of a French novel by Choderlos de Laclos. It is about the decadent French aristocratic society at the outlet of the 18th century. A rich and powerful Marquise makes a bet with her close friend Vicomte de Valmont: if he succeeds in seducing a young girl and a virtuous lady, the Marquise will reward him with a night of love. The situation gets out of control when the real feelings of both are getting revealed...

  • Is there nudity in this movie?

  • @jigglesnap yes, it is.

  • What I find odd is that the film is set in France and yet it stars 3 Americans playing French people and it was directed by a Brit.

  • @TheComedyfan123 It is originally a French novel from 1782, it has just been adapted by a British screen writer.

  • Anyone know the song in the trailer?

  • @jonesstormy8 did you find what's the name of the song???

  • @iliaxtida1973 its called the barber of seville or somthing like that I think?

  • Of course I also love John Malkovich in this movie :D I wanna know, whose music there is in this trailer?

  • WHY did they use Rossini's Barber of Seville overture?? Totally different style and aesthetic than mid French 18th century tastes. Really great movie, but Hollywood can be so cheesy!

  • Lol every time I see Glenn Close the Cruela De Vil theme plays in my head XD

This looks like a scandelous film! Awesome!

  • great film!

  • has anyone read the book? i've seen this movie and didnt like it as much as i liked cruel intensions

  • The book is awesome. Much better than the movie (though I liked it too) !

  • Great performances... amazing film!

I cant believe John Malkovich has never won an Oscar! he desevered one for Dangerous Liaisons and for In The Line Of Fire.

He also had fine performances in Ripleys Game and Con Air.

  • I was thinking the exact same thing.

  • Cruel Intentions, as I understand it, is actually remake of Dangerous Liaisons. Same story just updated (much like Clueless or 10 Things I Hate About You).

  • its actually an adaptation

  • John Malcovich OSCAR BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR 1988!!!! not kevin kline

  • best supporting actor????????????? BEST ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE!!!!!

  • Victorian??? You know nothing of history! The victorian age starts in England in the 19th cenury. This is set in France one century before the victorian age...

  • @VanVitot yes agreed who said victorian? its the 18th century in mid-late1700`s!

  • @VanVitot Actually it's set in France before that even... it's one century before the Regency era at the latest

  • @Quima85 No, it is not. It is set at the end of the 18th century. Even the marquise says so during the movie. In the scene where she talks to Valmont about his succes with Cecile, to be exact. You should see the movie before commenting.

  • @VanVitot so what age would you call this?

  • @VanVitot The proper term is Rococo.

  • it IS the victorian version of cruel intentions lol!

  • @shootingstardom3, this is NOT victorian, the film takes place in the pre-revolutionary france, the victorian times took place a century later!

  • oops sorry! excuse the mistake, I'm a science student, I don't know history very well *blushes*

Lol but what I meant was that Cruel Intentions is based on Dangerous Liaisons.. I thought the person who's comment I replied to knew for a fact that it was Victorian, but just didn't know that the two movies were related. So I just meant to clear that up.. not to offend all the history buffs who's comments follow :( Sorry guys!

  • go watch UNTOLD SCANDAL .

untold scandal is the korean adaptation of the novel.

  • @MySweetSeoul

Well, "Untold Scandal" is the 2nd Korean version of "Les Liaisons Dangereuses"

The first one is "Wiheomhan Georye", in the 60's or 70's, I think...

  • My favorite movie!

  • Michelle .. ~

  • It really, really did. My mouth fell open when I first saw the plot developing for CI. I thought it was the cheapest little ripoff I had send in a long time. Sickening.

Also, the acting in Cruel Intentions was so pathetic and horrible, while the acting in Dangerous Liaisons was superb. I guess that's what happens when you let barely 20-something kids play the roles intended for experienced adults.

  • Comment removed

  • how is this music called?

  • I think cruel intentions was a very decent modern remake.

  • Book is awesome! Read it :) Movie too :D

  • i just love john malkovich here

    :)

  • @losinghell Biggest peacock ever in tha movie XD

  • @losinghell watched that movie soo many times and never understood why most people like the one with buffy better -_-

  • Glenn Close is FANTASTIC =)

  • That is SUCH a fantastic trailer.

  • Wow! rich jerk offs. If you are going to go after someone just try and kill or hurt them like a regular person. That way they'll atleast have chance to fight back.

  • I wish Michelle Pfeiffer made more movies...

  • Immaturity!

  • Glenn Close is the only reason to watch this movie!

  • WHAT YEAR DID THIS MOVIE COME OUT???

  • 1988

  • shakespeareHamlet : read the novel first , you will understand better.

  • i wanna see this film uncut...or should I read the novel first?

  • was cruel intentions a remake of this movie or sumthin cos the plotline/characters seem sooo similar!

  • not exactly it's just from the same book. Cruel intention is more modern !

  • and less close to the book.

  • I think this movie is also similar to Valmont 1989 with Colin Firth.

  • Dangerous Liaisons, Valmont and Cruel Intentions were all based on the same 18th century book - that's where the similarities come from.

  • it's the same story ;)

  • does anyone know the music in this trailer

    ?

  • It's the overture to Il Barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville), by Giacomo Rossini.

  • Most famously done by Bugs Bunny

  • Michelle Pfeiffer was brilliant

  • i agree

  • the year.. 17???

  • The trailer for Stephen Frears latest movie, Chéri, starring our own beloved Pfeiffer is online now! It's very similar in spirit to this trailer which can only suggest a more profound cinematic experience!

  • no, there's something wrong with your connection, otherwise, i won't be replying to your comment...

  • may i stick forks into my legs!!??, my fave movie of all time!!

  • This movie rocks!!! There would be no Cruel Intentions without Dangerous Liaisions.

  • this movies really funny. you can tell its based on a play

  • I'm an exchange student in France, and we have to read this book in french class. It's thick. I think I'll watch the film instead!

  • The book is hard to put down, and it is one of the most evil books I have ever read.

  • Evil yes and dangerously seductive :X

  • It is! I love it! Bought it in english now, a bit easier to understand.. I think I'm the only one it my class who actually likes it!

  • Tell the rest of your class that they're a bunch of dullards. :)

  • hey, the film's entirely in English, don't you know...?

  • I bought the BOOK in english, the original is in french;) And btw, we watched the film in class to understand the book better: dubbed in French.. Of course..

  • hehehe wat class r u?? cz we watched the movie 2 for the same aim :D

  • In 1ere ES, in France:)

  • :) terminale L, Liban :) mais je crois ke c le mm bac ke ns presentons, c pr ca ;) anw bne chanse pr l anticipation :D

  • I HAVE TO SEE THAT MOVIE!!

  • Looks better than "Valmont"

  • Dunno, I haven't seen this movie yet, even if I heard very good comments about it.

Concerning Valmont, I really appreciated that movie and the acting of Colin Firth there.

As soon as I have time I want to read the epistolar book from Laclos.

It is good to know that there are people that appreciated intelligent and "dangerous movies".

If you have time I suggest also "And God Created Woman" (Et Dieu Creé La Femme) from Roger Vadim, with a beautiful Brigitte Bardot.

  • Awesome movie. I loved the modern rendition of it as well, Cruel Intentions.

  • This is a very good movie, and i often wonder how Michelle Pfeiffer can get more beautyful years after years. Here Uma Thurman was so little and nice!

  • I LOVE THIS FILM!

  • Because you can't chase people who don't run away.

    OH SHIT!!?!!

  • One of the better films in the world!!!!

  • i love this movie

  • ele nao tem carater , nem fibra moral . conheci um tipo desses.

  • John is so handsome!

  • to jest moj film number 1 , od zawsze i forever

  • john is the slimiest looking person on the planet he really couldn't play the heart throb

  • Ummmm... she actually really didn't. And maybe that's because this movie is set in France.

  • Love this movie anyway... John is cool even in his native language.... The French version never gave it to me one bit, I must say.... It's beyond my control... ;-)

  • I just can't buy into period pieces with American accents.

  • I can with John Malkovich :P

  • would you like a cockney accent better govna?

  • All my respect for the director, the whole crew, and the actors,of course! This movie IS the book.

  • Best. Movie. Ever.

  • no!!!!!

rossini non è la musica adatta a questo meraviglioso film!

la colonna sonora è superba... gluck, vivaldi, haendel!

è la musica coeva! no rossini!!!!!!

ma chi ha fatto questo montaggio?????

    assassino!

  • This was made by the studio. Hollywood can be stupid sometimes.

  • I wish someone would upload this movie though.

  • it IS uploaded, type in the search "Dangerous Liaisons 1988 - Part 1

    "

  • John Malkovich as Valmont = <3
