I've actually got a 70mm frame from a long time ago. But not from the film itself. More like a publicity shoot. It's of one of the Moon shuttle stewardesses. But it's definitely a posed glamor shot. I cooked it slightly, using my old slide projector to see it on a large enough screen. It got too close to the bulb.
If anyone has the network promo trailer of " Earth II " from the WB DVD, would you please upload it? That's another movie Gary Lochwood did. Thanks
Of course: "Where No Man Has Gone Before." I always thought he was overacting very much in the Shatner style throughout that episode. Never heard much about this. He put weird twists on his line readings, just like Kirk.
I understand about the frames, thanks for explaining it! But I'm kind-of suprized he and Gary had not seen an actual 70mm print (or a projection booth) for that matter. I mean, after all this time you would think they had by now.. Perhaps many film actors just don't get a chance! Thanks for posting these, they're excellent! BTY, 2001 played in Seattle at the Cinerama Theatre (in 70mm) last year. It was amazing, although the print was just 'ok'.
I was raised in Seattle and when I was 16 the Cinerama was going to have a midnight showing of 2001 on a fucking Wednesday. I was pissed because I couldnt miss school the next day; which is what you need after seeing the movie - a day off. I mean for god sake have it on a Friday or Sturday.
Our English class saw 2001 at the Cinerama in Seattle on a field trip in 1968. It was enthralling. Years later I met Kubrick's daughter in Los Angeles (she's the little girl who makes the phone call to her daddy on the moon.)
@luvdomus i saw it on its first release in 68 too. I was 6 yraes old at the time but remember sitting enthralled at it. All these years later still my fav sci fi movie
Keir was given a frame from the end of a reel at a point after the change cues which doesn't get projected, so no damage was done to print. This 70mm print belongs to us and is very precious! Yes, Keir was delighted about getting this frame, and neither he nor Gary had seen a physical 70mm print (or projection room) before!
1:00 -- Gary Lockwood autographing a head shot of him playing Gary Mitchell from Star Trek. I've often thought it was cool how he went from playing Mitchell immediately to playing the tragic Frank Poole in 2001; Lockwood really should be a sci-fi icon.
Keir was so handsome when he was young, and very pretty blue eyes.... is he married ? i watched his earlier film called Madame X played as a lawyer and son to Lana turner as a mother, was a great movie. He was hot in that part. Glad he still around .
I'm not sure Keir Dullea should have given away how they did the airlock scene(in part 4 of this) but it won't take away my enjoyment of this brilliant film which I've seen many times at the cinema and on DVD.
I tend to agree with you - but the cat was let out of the secrets bag a long time ago when studios decided to reveal 'how it was done' and 'the making of' extras on DVDs. It is like a magician explaining how the tricks worked - it removes the magic, and that is unfortunate.
This was the best movie ever made and every house everyapartment in the world should have its sitting room demolished and a cinema installed so everydody can see this greatest of masterpieces as it should, on the big screen.
Well if you are near Melbourne Australia it is being screened, in 70mm, at The Astor Theatre St Kilda on May 4th 2008 at 7.30pm - to celebrate the 40th anniversary,
Oh man, I would love to see 2001 on the big screen. I think I'll put that on my bucket list!

Keir Dullea made a thriller in Italy with Stefania Sandrelli, The Devil in the brain, in 72. Very good movie but very rare!

At 7:11, did the projectionist actual chop a few frames from that "beautiful" print and give them to Kier?! I guess he deserved them, lol.
