I'm addicted to anything Camelot/Arthur related so this is in my watch list. I loved Merlin season 1, but sorry Guinevere is an annoying enough character on her own. Camelot is good because of those two actors (actually started watching it because of the guy who plays Merlin who also played the main guy in Flashward), but Game of Thrones is in another league of its own.
the serie is full of sex.. like in every episode someone is naked.. a bit pathetic to try to get viewers like that. but other than that the show is great and Joseph Fiennes is really good!
This is a very good series so far. Pretty well written, great cast, awesome set and costumes, I'm not yet attached to it like I am with other new series like The Borgias but I watch it every week.
And comparing it to the BBC show Merlin is like comparing Doctor Who to Battlestar Galactica, don't bother, they are different entities and are quite able to co-exist without the world crumbling to dust.

I think there are a lot of people who haven't watched the series or ever read any versions of the Arthurian legends because he is supposed to be a boy. I did laugh at the idea of Colin Farrell as King Arthur in this series though, maybe 20 years ago...

The legend of King Arthur has been told many different times, many different ways. So anyone who starts watching a King Arthur story should not expect it to agree with any other version they've seen. This was clearly meant to be a more violent/sexual version for an adult audience. BBC's Merlin is good but its more family oriented. I found plenty of problems with that show at first but I learned to love it. Each version should be taken for what it is, not compared to others.
@SkizzoAS90 I agree that Orlando Bloom isn't the best actor, but go and watch Kingdom of Heaven. He did fantastically well in that film. He's good in roles like this. Jamie should stick to musicals and Twilight.
@tobersx Jamie is a really good actor. U can't judge him only because of twilight. I think he is perfect for this role. Arthur character has been a director choice and Jamie is acting it in a very good way.
It's really unnecessary to be wasting money just to put another show on the air based on the Arthurian Legend when there's already Merlin. It would have been nice if they picked up Legend of the Seeker instead. It already has a loyal fan base following it. And, oh, it's not already BEING DONE. Hmm.

@svartekaptenen There were actually. When the Romans occupied Britain many different races crossed our shores, including black people, and not just as slaves but also tradespeople. Britain may look very white from an uneducated perspective but we've had literally thousands of years of multi-cultural action going on. After all, Shakespeare didn't have travel to Africa just to write Othello.
I really like this series. Yes it may not be as great as Merlin, but to me this series stands on it's own. There are a lot of different myths of this legend and this series is just a different way on telling it. They changed a lot of stuff in it from the original tale, but I really like that. It makes it new and a little unpredictable on somethings. It if was 100% like what they already did in other shows, movies and stuff then it would be borning to me. A new way on telling it is awesome. :)

@ggdr89 Erm, I think you'll find they took they idea from an ancient British legend, not the BBC lol They stories are massively different and you can't describe either as more accurate or better because A) they are completely different from one another, which if you actually watch the show before judging you'll see and B) because King Arthur isn't real, they can write whatever the hell they want.
Saw the first 3 episodes, looks very promising, may be the best Arthurian adaptation yet in tv or movies. Good acting and production values, Merlin is a bit different, and certainly some changes from other versions, but I was impressed. I hope it doesn't get canceled.
in some legends morgan le fey was arthurs half sister and that is the most accepted version, so it makes sense that they would go that route to create the proper conflict between them.

@maaneblomme I agree completely, I have watched many versions of the Arthurian Legend, from THe MIst of Avalon to (1981) Excalibur, to (1967) musical version of Camelot, and (1998) Merlin staring Sam Neill.
I have watched the current Merlin but to be honest did not take it seriously, it moves some things around story wise but is not original, it is just a safe little family show.
@Amjustalady Merlin is for kids and family to be honest, all that magic and fantasy, like people who like childish interpretations... and fluff, basically.
This is a more realistic version as back in those days woman were not treated well at all, where as in the Merlin version it seemed more like a lighthearted-kid version.
Plus Arthur being raised as a Prince was totally wrong, anyways. The whole saying Prince and the Paupur came from that I think.

@AussieEvil88 Actually the black people who were in Britain at that time are believed to have varied from slaves to traders. During the roman occupation many races ended up over here and although it's rare (thus the fact that there are only a couple of black people on the show) they were around.
Let's not forget, slavery has plagued ths world for thousands of years and in those days they weren't uniquely black people.

He has to find his way, it is a journey, and to me that is what is interesting about the series to see that journey progress and develop.
@Trimexxxc I like that we are see Arthur at the beginning, as a naive young man, so we can see progression in his character. I have always enjoyed the mentor relationship between Merlin and Arthur and here we will see it from the beginning. I have a feeling that if they get a second season they will have Jamie Campbell Bower in the gym bulking him up while they are hiatus, so he looks more like a warrior.

Eva green, joseph fiennes, jamie bower..they are amazing. They all have enough experience and talent to do that. And for all those talking bad about J Bower, I don't agree. I'm appreciatig him a lot. He is like I have always imagined Arthur. And he is an indiscussable talented actor.

@svartekaptenen There were actually. When the Romans occupied Britain many different races crossed our shores, including black people, and not just as slaves but also tradespeople. Britain may look very white from an uneducated perspective but we've had literally thousands of years of multi-cultural action going on. After all, Shakespeare didn't have travel to Africa just to write Othello.

The person or company that edited this, totally copied the music off the Dragon Age "This Is War" trailer.
Probably because the song fits well with Fantasy-Arthurian / Middle Age eras.

I have yet to see Boorman's version of King Arthur to be topped. It's the bar that all others have problems reaching.

I really like this series. Yes it may not be as great as Merlin, but to me this series stands on it's own. There are a lot of different myths of this legend and this series is just a different way on telling it. They changed a lot of stuff in it from the original tale, but I really like that. It makes it new and a little unpredictable on somethings. It if was 100% like what they already did in other shows, movies and stuff then it would be borning to me. A new way on telling it is awesome. :)

@catchlightdame I know who worte the book and I have read it many time, his name is Sir Thomas Mallory and the name of the book is "le Morte D'Arthur" and I know A LOT about the legend. I also KNOW that "MERLIN" did not come up with the Arthurian legend, DUH! All i'm saying is that it says "original series" and starz ONLY created this series due to the sucess "Merlin" is having. That's all!

@ggdr89 Erm, I think you'll find they took they idea from an ancient British legend, not the BBC lol They stories are massively different and you can't describe either as more accurate or better because A) they are completely different from one another, which if you actually watch the show before judging you'll see and B) because King Arthur isn't real, they can write whatever the hell they want.

The best part of this show is also its biggest problem.
Eva Green. She's too good for this show.
She nails each and every scene.
She, and the guy who plays Merlin, are so much better then anyone else on the cast.

Saw the first 3 episodes, looks very promising, may be the best Arthurian adaptation yet in tv or movies. Good acting and production values, Merlin is a bit different, and certainly some changes from other versions, but I was impressed. I hope it doesn't get canceled.

why the same Arthurian legend? We already have Merlin which is the best show ever. My guess is they wanted an all white cast. This can never be compared to Merlin,the BBC show, ever. I'm sure there are other legends from so many other places. This is just nonsence.

The medieval era is the trend, and the Arthurian Legend is the (I think) best of all legends. Of course ppl would want to make a more adult version of the Arthurian Legend, because there aren't many.
BBC Merlin is only a family show. I like it, but if I compare it to the legend then I think it's screwed up!

@maaneblomme I agree completely, I have watched many versions of the Arthurian Legend, from THe MIst of Avalon to (1981) Excalibur, to (1967) musical version of Camelot, and (1998) Merlin staring Sam Neill.
I have watched the current Merlin but to be honest did not take it seriously, it moves some things around story wise but is not original, it is just a safe little family show.

@Amjustalady Merlin is for kids and family to be honest, all that magic and fantasy, like people who like childish interpretations... and fluff, basically.
This is a more realistic version as back in those days woman were not treated well at all, where as in the Merlin version it seemed more like a lighthearted-kid version.
Plus Arthur being raised as a Prince was totally wrong, anyways. The whole saying Prince and the Paupur came from that I think.

@Amjustalady This series is better than Merlin, its also a totally different story, sure magic in every episode is cool and all, but this show is more realism, more mature, and the magic is there but more hidden than Merlin. Plus the story in Camelot is so much better than Merlin in my opinion and plus I like the Merlin in this series.

If other shows want to add different races in then fine, it is a fantasy after all, but to complain about shows based off of old British legends not having the proper amount of ethnic diversity for you is just stupid.

@Amjustalady they are trying to make a realistic interpretation of how the ledgend might have unfolded, so the ''all white'' cast you speak of might be because back then black people were slaves or servants none of them held any positions of power or note in brittain that long ago, because they were looked down upon as a ''lesser race''. Hence the realism they are trying to emulate. at least thats how i see it

@AussieEvil88 Actually the black people who were in Britain at that time are believed to have varied from slaves to traders. During the roman occupation many races ended up over here and although it's rare (thus the fact that there are only a couple of black people on the show) they were around.
Let's not forget, slavery has plagued ths world for thousands of years and in those days they weren't uniquely black people.

@Amjustalady Have you seen the show? it is nothing like the BBC Merlin. Where that show is geared for a younger more family oriented audience, Camelot is made for grown ups. It is much much more dark then the BBC show, and there is not an all white cast.

Yeah, it has MANY similarities, and at first I thought it just seemed like a grown-up version of Merlin. Really, nobody knows until they've watched it, so I wont make a judgment, it could be totally different ...... they just chose an awful time to come out with the series!

@Trimexxxc Honestly would you by a kid brought up by some commoners all of sudden being told by Merlin he is the heir of King Uther thorn saying OK and acting like a king right off the bat. He has to find his way, it is a journey, and to me that is what is interesting about the series to see that journey progress and develop.

@Trimexxxc I like that we are see Arthur at the beginning, as a naive young man, so we can see progression in his character. I have always enjoyed the mentor relationship between Merlin and Arthur and here we will see it from the beginning. I have a feeling that if they get a second season they will have Jamie Campbell Bower in the gym bulking him up while they are hiatus, so he looks more like a warrior.
