What a way to mess up a beautiful song. Any love song can be made religious.  "In your eyes" by Peter Gabriel, first line replace "love" with "lord". works. then again who am I to limit ones self expression. What a conundrum!

Great John Denver cover. I doubt that John meant for it to have any Catholic meaning. From what I know of the public side of the man, I never got the sense that he was a believer.

Although innocence mission is a very Christian band, not all there music is directly meant to "religious" theme. They did not make this video...i doubt they would have a prob with it.

But innocence covers many folk songs like this one.

Christian band? By that I assume you mean evangelical. Given they met at a Catholic school- it's unlikely they are protestant holy-rollers if that's what you're asking. The author wasn't a "christian" either and he certainly wouldn't have been part of the "christian coalition" or any such nonsense. It's a love song for Christ's sake.

FYI: Catholicism is a Christian "denomonination" by definition. Not all evangelicals support the "Christian Coalition" political movememt. Your last sentence "It's a love song for Christ's sake." is exactly what I think the videographer was trying to do, turn a love song into a song about loving Jesus, though I'm sure you didn't mean it that way. :) I concur with your judgment of John Denver's life philosophy not being Christian.

You've put your finger on how their faith "colors" the music they make even if it's not explicitly Christian all the time. But a few years back, they did put out a nice little record of all hymns called "Christ is my Hope" which sort of removes any question IMO.
