  • woah!!!I WANT THAT!!!!

  • By the end of these rehearsals, Ginger's feet were bleeding because of how hard Astair worked her. He, however, was fine.

Why? Fred Astair is the God of Tap.

  • @TripleDimensional And also because she's wearing high heels and he's not :P

  • @terin26

They are both wearing roller skates. :/

  • Wow!! Impressive. Tap dancing with skates can't be easy!!

  • Boo to the one 'Dislike'!

  • What movie is this from?

  • @TheCecchettiIdea This is from the movie "Shall We Dance" from 1937

  • Shear Brilliance! A Tapping legend.

  • I heard this was done in 200 takes

  • they make it look so EASY!!!!

  • 1:06 she looks like she's about to fall over. Good catch!

  • Osborne on TCM said they did more than a 150 takes to get it right. No wonder it looks so damn good!

  • inspiring, Love it!!!!!!!

  • Ginger may look a little tense, but I think that's actually mostly due to the huge shoulder pads that were fashionable back then making it look like her shoulders were hunched.

  • @stringcheese0902

No. Ginger's legs look tenser than Fred's, too. But no one can compare with Fred in this way, anyway.

  • Ginger is probably a bit more nervous because she hasn't has as much training as Fred and they're doing it on SKATES!!!!

Plus can you imagine how hard it would have been to film this?? Back then trying to record the sounds and sync it, makes it seem much more impressive then a lot of CGI explosions.

  • Dang. I wish I could do that.....

  • Just when we thought they couldn't get any greater, be any more innovative . . . they break smashingly thru the human-limits barrier ! Of dance . . . and on thru the finish line of terpsichorean brisance, into comic, good-natured champions' self-parody.

  • okay they were impressive enough with tap shoes, but honestly? ROLLER SKATES? I am absolutely astounded <3 They're so incredibly talented. <3

  • I think the ending is the best thing EVER

  • wow tap dancing on roller skates- that takes skill!

  • Such skill. Gotta love Fred and Ginger. Nothing like this these days.

  • Wow!! Dancing in roller skates, now that's impressive!!! Absolutely LOVE IT!!

  • I wonder how many times they fell in rehersal

  • @wickedfan7681 they had to do 150 takes for this scene

  • I don't get any satisfaction without song

  • What's amazing is that this is a single camera shoot with very few cuts. That means they did most of this in one take.

  • Why on EARTH would you upload only HALF THE NUMBER? They sing it too, you know. Ridiculous.

  • love this movie

  • I really like this song and I think they're really talented to be able to dance in rollerskates :)

  • I'd like to see the so called "actors" nowadays that are so "talented" do this!

  • everyone gives credit to gene kelly for his roller skate stuff in "an american in paris" but i'm convince gene kely was paying tribut to fred & ginger!

  • @tearmann i thought about that too! only the tap skating was in It's Always Fair Weather, not American in Paris :)

  • @mysweetsmile23 thanks for getting it right! i'm getting too old to remember all this. lol didn't we see him on roller skates in xanadu also? (though a cult film in some ways, we might want to forget it.)

  • One of the greatest compliments Fred Astaire paid to Ginger Rogers was that even though her feet bled through her tap shoes sometimes "She never once cried" but her work ethic made her endure his perfectionism...Folks, it shows in the effortlessness of this "dance" as well as the others. Thanks for posting this!

  • Someone may have mentioned this already, but it took them 150 takes to get this number down.

  • Ginger looks a little tense, but look at Fred go! What confidence!

  • @starlightcheese

Probably because every step hurt. Her feet were torn apart.

  • they can do anything

  • I was amazed that this scene is did not need to be shot with multiple cuts to break up the footage. Fred and Ginger were able to do it without having to take breaks. Pretty incredible.

  • There is a cut in the scene at about 1:40 (Fred Astaire ginger Rogers roller skate dance)

  • Excellent video! Thanks so much!

  • fred astaire FTW

  • Jesus there is nothing they couldnt do.

  • Happy 110th birthday Fred

    u rock

  • WOW!

  • Thank you for posting this. Been looking all over for it.

  • thanks for posting this!
