Ginger may look a little tense, but I think that's actually mostly due to the huge shoulder pads that were fashionable back then making it look like her shoulders were hunched.
Ginger is probably a bit more nervous because she hasn't has as much training as Fred and they're doing it on SKATES!!!!
Plus can you imagine how hard it would have been to film this?? Back then trying to record the sounds and sync it, makes it seem much more impressive then a lot of CGI explosions.
Just when we thought they couldn't get any greater, be any more innovative . . . they break smashingly thru the human-limits barrier ! Of dance . . . and on thru the finish line of terpsichorean brisance, into comic, good-natured champions' self-parody.
everyone gives credit to gene kelly for his roller skate stuff in "an american in paris" but i'm convince gene kely was paying tribut to fred & ginger!
@mysweetsmile23 thanks for getting it right! i'm getting too old to remember all this. lol didn't we see him on roller skates in xanadu also? (though a cult film in some ways, we might want to forget it.)
One of the greatest compliments Fred Astaire paid to Ginger Rogers was that even though her feet bled through her tap shoes sometimes "She never once cried" but her work ethic made her endure his perfectionism...Folks, it shows in the effortlessness of this "dance" as well as the others. Thanks for posting this!
I was amazed that this scene is did not need to be shot with multiple cuts to break up the footage. Fred and Ginger were able to do it without having to take breaks. Pretty incredible.
woah!!!I WANT THAT!!!!

By the end of these rehearsals, Ginger's feet were bleeding because of how hard Astair worked her. He, however, was fine.
Why? Fred Astair is the God of Tap.

No. Ginger's legs look tenser than Fred's, too. But no one can compare with Fred in this way, anyway.

What's amazing is that this is a single camera shoot with very few cuts. That means they did most of this in one take.

Why on EARTH would you upload only HALF THE NUMBER? They sing it too, you know. Ridiculous.
