the video did present a seemingly bad scenario, but i think corporations joining youtube has become a very good thing. for years, many users have been trying to upload movies and shows, but a lot of them have been taken down due to copyright. now the actual owners of the content may be able to provide us with it.

I've been here since well before youtube was a household name, and long before the partner program, and now that the program has been active for quite some time, I'm still seeing "little guys" make it big in exactly the same way as before the program went live. you're just hunting for excuses, and you're wrong.

Well it seems the storm of people who feared the "Death of Youtube" has died down. *sigh* It's a good thing and a pity. I liked to laugh at the idiots who thought Youtube was going to die. Boo-hoo... get over it. I knew from the start everything would be fine. At least there's people like Blunty who also had some common sense in this entire mess.

I must say, I do think 'therealweeklynews' video overreacted to the change but he is right in some cases, for example views will go down because people will spend more time watching shows instead of user generated content, although, I think users should be allowed what to watch, it's a grey area really, there are just to many arguments for and against this situation. I do think the range of shows and movies YouTube has is rather poor at moment.

Sort of correct, but not totally - the music companies told YouTube they would have to pay more to show their content for free - YouTube COULD have said YES, and kept showing them, though they didn't - now to me that just shows YouTube's dedication to their UK users... not a lot.

Actually this whole thing is bad for anime fans who watch subs. For example if they allowed funimations to post one piece videos they might request that all of the future episode subs will be removed so we will either be forced to read it on onemanga or watch the anime on mega video or actually wait for them to actually post there official dubs here (although sometimes they might forget to put it up like school rumble on hulu which hasn't updated for a long while.)
and yes theoretically back in the day, youtube would not have costed billions. hosting fees and publicity for this site would now cost a bit theoretically.... but its owned by google. so yes effectively it doesn't.... BUT Google has invested A LOT OF MONEY into this.. and it's a good move.. people who use blink 182s name ineffectively use this site :) its all good :P
Even though I hate this bastard, it's true. The time it took me to write this comment is the equivalent of around 15,000 videos uploaded. That's a lot of bandwith.
Videos can be higher than even gigabytes. And youtube has to load those all in a matter of seconds. Keep in mind that those videos aren't very portable either and the time is takes to transfer those same videos from one folder to another can range from over 10 minutes to over an hour.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. therealweeklynews has some strong points on some of his videos, but the HuluTube videos are overdramatic and pretty much overreacting.
Think about it dude...there's thousands, probably even millions of videos uploaded a day on YouTube. That's A LOT of bandwith. And all those videos' filesizes put together? I'd say quite a few terabytes, especially since some podcasts like NooBTooB upload videos that are one hour long. That's a lot of content. YouTube is at least like 50 times more popular than Newgrounds, which pays about $18,000 a month to keep running, so imagine how much YouTube costs.
We don't care that we will have a single tab. The site is supposed to be just for the user content. If we wanted the other stuff we would use other sites. Youtube died in 2007. Now the only way to get your content out is by making your own website or using another site like blip.

Well it seems the storm of people who feared the "Death of Youtube" has died down. *sigh* It's a good thing and a pity. I liked to laugh at the idiots who thought Youtube was going to die. I must say, I do think 'therealweeklynews' video overreacted to the change but he is right in some cases, for example views will go down because people will spend more time watching shows instead of user generated content, although, I think users should be allowed what to watch, it's a grey area really, there are just to many arguments for and against this situation. I do think the range of shows and movies YouTube has is rather poor at moment.

You may not notice Blunty, but people like me (who vids suck anyways) who used to get up to 1k (to about 5k b4 dec 2007 god i wish i started then) are stuck at 305 view count, and i cant even refresh etc. to get it up anymore... not only that we arent mad about corperate content on youtube, we are mad that youtube is overshadowing us. and yes we know we've always been competing, but even in that case why is our views deflating slowly?

Sort of correct, but not totally - the music companies told YouTube they would have to pay more to show their content for free - YouTube COULD have said YES, and kept showing them, though they didn't - now to me that just shows YouTube's dedication to their UK users... not a lot.

Actually this whole thing is bad for anime fans who watch subs. For example if they allowed funimations to post one piece videos they might request that all of the future episode subs will be removed so we will either be forced to read it on onemanga or watch the anime on mega video or actually wait for them to actually post there official dubs here (although sometimes they might forget to put it up like school rumble on hulu which hasn't updated for a long while.)

Videos can be higher than even gigabytes. And youtube has to load those all in a matter of seconds. Keep in mind that those videos aren't very portable either and the time is takes to transfer those same videos from one folder to another can range from over 10 minutes to over an hour.

Think about it dude...there's thousands, probably even millions of videos uploaded a day on YouTube. That's A LOT of bandwith. And all those videos' filesizes put together? I'd say quite a few terabytes, especially since some podcasts like NooBTooB upload videos that are one hour long. That's a lot of content. YouTube is at least like 50 times more popular than Newgrounds, which pays about $18,000 a month to keep running, so imagine how much YouTube costs.
