I don't know why people continue to question Janet's singing ablility!! Some of her best vocals are on "Pleasure Principle", "Love Will Never Do", "Again", "Together Again', "All For You", not to mention so many unreleased tracks on her albums that showcase her unqiue singing style. Let me ask you this, how many artists' voices have been versatile enough where they have sung pop songs (Rhythm Nation), R&B songs (I Get Lonely), Rock songs (Black Cat), even Country songs (What I'll Do)?

I love Janet, I enjoy her music especially the Damita Jo album, but really... she hasn't got much of a singing voice. She might as well just say her words. I know she's dancing in this vid but even on her albums her voice is just average. I don't get why people think she's an amazing singer. Her brother Michael on the other hand... different story! ;)

@NerdGogo i have to disagree. it depends on the material...she has a really nice voice. not a screaming "patti" type voice but a good voice for her hits and her quiet storm type songs. some of her songs really showcase her voice. youtube "janet anytime anyplace SNL live" or "janet come back to me rhythm nation tour japan" or the song "lonely"...oh she's got a voice...trust

@miamivicepastels83 I respect your opinion. I just listened to 'Lonely' and she sounds pleasant but still rather weak. Her voice is soft, just like any other Jackson really, and therefore sometimes she can't reach lower notes (just like in her song Runaway). I just think there are much stronger female vocalists in the world. I've read that she's one of the best female vocalists and I just can't hear it myself. But hey, the world would be boring if we all thought the same :)

@Cosmictalk Try not to mention Ms. Britney in the same breath as Janet Jackson. I can only hope that you can discern the difference. One actually has talent. The other was factory produced by Disney (which isn't always a bad thing, but in this case...it is). The legacy and image of Ms. Jackson would take a tremendous hit if she shared the marquee with the ex-Mouseketeer. Brit can sell albums; she's highly marketable. But her talent (singing, dancing, passion) is well below the mark.

She had bad ass stage presence, killed the choreographies thrown at her and added sexy vocals to it. But all changed when she got pregnant. Don't diss Brit cuz she has reached her iconic status with talent. Of course she doesn't touch janet but she was second in line among the female performers once upon a time...

One breathes/lives for the artistry of her work; embraces consistency. One is innovative, enterprising; a self reliant visionary. One writes, produces; engaged in her own material and image. The other, Britney, is the poster-child of an extremely successful manufactured product by her handlers.

At one point, JJ was a PA, but through time we saw a "hands-on" revolution in her creative process (previous post). BS is notoriously documented as a cash cow-puppeteer controlled by handlers that pull the strings. As far as her talent, talent is subjective. Imo, BS is flawed in that area. The prequel to Hanna Montana where marketing rules.
