His real name is in fact Doctor Ivo Robotnik in the manual of the American release of the 1991 debut game, Sonic the Hedgehog, although it was Doctor Eggman in the Japanese manual for the same game. Yuji Naka has explained that "Robotnik" is the character's real name while "Eggman" is a "common name taken after his shape." I apologize for replying to such a old comment, but I just wanted to clear that up.

Oh god, I hate the blue sphere levels. I never finished this game, I only got 6 emeralds and couldn't beat eggman on the level where you hit Knuckles with a machine. I would always panic when it sped up, if I messed up just once it would be like, "Oh man, Oh God, Oh man, Oh god, OH MAN. OH GOD." thing going on XD

how exactly do you turn into super sonic? I have this game on Sonic Mega Collection and I suck at it, so I wouldn't know.

First you need to collect the seven Chaos Emeralds and fifty rings. Jump, then press the jump button again and you're transform into Super Sonic.

You'll have a higher acceleration and top speed, as well as the ability to jump higher and be practically invulnerable to all damage (squishing and falling off stage still kill you though).

In a previous run of the game, I was unable to use Super Sonic at that part of the game as he would just blaze right past the boss fight and the capsule. Then, one of two things would happen:

1) I would run back to go fight Robotnik, but then the capsule would dissapear.

2) I would hit the capsule, but the stage would not end.

This version seems especially glitchy for me, but it always works fine on the first file. Every time I play on another file though, it seems to like screwing me.
