  • Grate

    inspired

  • fu

yeah maybe but they didnt wright it

  • you never hear the studio version it seems. metallica did ok on there cover but once its sung or written, it can be ever re-covered and done the same as the original

  • love his raspy voice...what a great artist

  • "is that a woman or a man, you always seem out numbered so you don't dare make a stand" reminds of being a long hair hitchhiking across the country in the 70's. That's how we felt in every truck stop in Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska.

  • this is great_with all respect to segar ,i prefer that of metallica

  • metallica cant even touch this get over it!

  • its his song of course, but metallica's version is a way better , a badass cover

  • lol DeanWinchester1979 awesome youtube username! the song videos yo upload are so Dean, im subscribing, for good music and cuase Dean Winchester kicks ass!

  • One of the best. EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Me recuerda mucho a la canción "Soldier of fortune de Deep Purple"...

  • Reminds me of being a child! My father would put me in his truck and we would drive and drive....Ironically I still do it when..... Love this song!!!!

  • although metallica is my favorite

  • i heard it for the first time from metallica but i think both versions are good in their own way

  • my favorite song lol

  • I'm a MetallicA fan, but I have to admit that Bob adds a feeling to this song, beyond any other cover

  • @harvesterofsand This isn't a cover. Bob Seger is the one who originally recorded it. Metallica's version is the cover.

  • @FloridaGirl46 lol, I know, that's why I said, I'm a metallica Fan but I have to admit that Bob adds a feeling to this beyond any cover, meaning that No cover could match bob Seger, XD , but I didn't explain it properly hehe.

  • both version r kick-ass!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Goddamit Bob Seger, Stop owning for a few seconds, I'm trying to suck over here.

  • Most musicians are known for their technical skills. Some are known as songwriters. Because they were amazing for the songs they wrote. This didn't exist, and then Bob Seger did a thing.

  • The live version of this is the best, Cant beat live performances

  • can't we just enjoy both songs?? they both KICK ASS

  • i am very luky to have the oppertunty to cut his grass.hes gotta great place here in canabus, rite on the lake., see i have to cut his, cause hes never there. theres always people there, but never him, lol. 11yrs. ive seen him, lol, but its all good.

  • If I didn't know and love the original, Metallica's version might be ok. I cannot listen to it at all.

  • This is bob seger, no need for that other band to be mentioned. :)

  • Love Bob!!!

  • No body covers it better than Metallica, but the original is out of reach.

  • I think its purely opinion. I discovered Metallica's version first. I'm a Metallica fan. But I prefer Bob's. It's just more pure to me.

  • @Sean3RA are you that stupid that you cant understand the difference between covering and steeling music?

  • few can write about their life so in tune with so many others they have never known...

  • Bob Seger has soul, talent and class. He may not be my favorite artist ever but I'd never compare him to anyone.

Metallica is funny how against the theft of music they are but I can't think of ANY other band who has covered more songs. (Garage Days, Whiskey in the Jar, Turn the Page, Anything written by Dave Mustaine)

  • You all need to hear the Live Bullet version of this tune. Then you will realize that all of this talk of Metallica is just nonsense.

  • the song of seger it,s the version original and metallica it,s a copy cheap of the original;s song

    metallica pleaseeeeee dont copy

  • @MrRaulma it's not a copy man. it's just a rework of the song and it happens to be a very good rework at another type of music

  • Metallica is great, and Bob is too, but in my taste of music, i enjoy Metallica's cover more

  • seger wrote this song but i think metallica made it a masterpiece of music history! don't get me wrong i really like this version, too!

  • @mywotzone Dude no... Your comparing Bob Segar to the biggest metal/rock band in the world. Don't get me wrong I like Bob Segar but Metallica has had more hits, waaay more record sales and way more success. Don't hate them for covering the song. They obviously have good taste in music...

  • @TheMetal4Life333: um Metallica has sold more records, for sure, but more hits? If by hit, you mean a song that gets played on the radio and makes the top 40, Seger wins hands down. "Night Moves", "Turn the Page", "We've Got Tonight", "Against the Wind", "Old Time Rock and Roll," "Still the Same," "Mainstreet," "Hollywood Nights," "You'll Accompany Me," "Shame on the Moon" and "Like a Rock." He even co-wrote "Heartache Tonight" by the Eagles. But yes, Metallica has been more successful.

  • No Version is better, they are diffrent

  • i think metallica lost the spirit of th song. just make it harder or faster is not certanly the right thing

  • Metallicas video is better, but Bob MADE THE SONG.

  • Bob Seger is bigger then Metallica , and certainly better... Had more record sales....

  • we must not fight about which version is better ! both are awesome and are played in a different style and deserves equal respect ! :D

  • it's a great song. stop arguing about whose version is better. they're two different genres and they both rock

  • why are you fags talkin' 'bout gaytallica?

  • @TheOctophant Gaytallica? Yeah, you jelly.

  • anyone that says metallica's version is better, is obviously too young to remember. lol

  • you just don,t get this, now, class

  • metallicas version is good...but as much as i love them i really think i like this better...not sure why it just...feels right

  • lame AS FUCK.

  • @bille77 Yeah, I know you are, but you really should have clarified that. Some people might be think you're talking about this song.

  • i heard metallica's version first then i found out that original is made by Bob. I just can't decide which one is better!

  • i dont like either version...but the song itself? unstoppable.

  • I like Metallica's Turn the Page, it's one of my favorite songs, but it would never exist without Bob Seger. So grow up kids and open up for different sorts of music :D

  • Thumbs up if you're listening to this in 1972.

  • Metallica is a very good band, but when it comes to this song "turn the page" this is and always be bob segers song. If i made anybody mad at me im sorry for it

  • @357Priest i agree, noone can touch seger at his own music, not even metallica

  • @357Priest

well both might be the same song, but their both also entirely different MEANINGS if u know what i mean

  • also my opinion, more feelings etc... and some songs are not made for covers, thats it :)

  • @357Priest Yeah Bob did it better.

  • I remember hearing this on the radio. I recognized the lyrics but not the voice :) Metallic from Bob Seger. Both sounds good. Metallica's version has the very similar sounds but more of their genre.

  • Back In 72 is one of his greatest. I about jumped out the damn window when, after years of searching, I finally found a vinyl in a flea market in Ohio.

  • Loving the piano as well.. excellent.

  • I like how the piano is more prominent in this version, as opposed to the live version from Live Bullet. I like how the sax plays more of a counterpoint to the piano instead of taking the lead as in the live recording. Oh yeah, 3 years old, my parents had me there, Cobo Arena 1976 Detroit, MI. Sure wish I could honestly remember it!

  • the best version of this song is form the greatest hits album when it was live

  • Year BOB, where are the years ??

  • he looks like the guy from biffy

  • With respect to Bob Seger, but Metallica's version is kicking ass!

  • @mrrtifosi Please don't confuse things. Metallica should not be mentioned in the same breath as Bob Seger.

  • Love everything Bob Seger sings! hugs from Spain xx

  • GOING TO SEE HIM AT THE SCOTTTRADE CENTER IN DECEMBER 2011.... CANT WAIT!!!

  • This is the greatest Song, Mr. Seger is great!

  • Well Mr Seger has been rockin for 45 years, maybe Metallica did one song better than him. Certainly Kenny Rogers did not! Have not heard too many even trying to copy him. Bob Seger has been a living myth for a long time. He is even older than Neil Young, who I also think is a great performing artist.

  • @ClubViking63

I disagree. I think both Seger versions are better.

  • This is my favorite song

  • Metallica version has more feel than this 70s version. Thanks to Kirk Hammett. Player with less technique but create incredible feel ! No wonder Metallica is famous. It is all about feel of the song for an average fan, not some weird ass riff Dave Mustaine plays with his pinky

  • Metallica dont have shit on this song. Bob all the way.

  • @4JRimmer Damn right

  • lovely , but still i love the metallica cover , it is more powerful .. well, they turn it into real metal song !!

  • @memooooos just because its metal doesnt mean its more powerful, it just makes it louder, this version has much more emotion to it

  • @memooooos Do not make it your own, the song was Segars, and that is how it was meant to be. I am so tired of ppl trying to remake songs. Metalica sucks

  • Respond to this video... Stop getting high long enough to appreciate the music

  • i listened to this song at hard rock cafe a week ago and desperately asked for the name , finally i found it ! thanks a lot for uploading! :)

  • I haven't heard this version. Love it! Thanks for posting. I have the Silver Bullet version, but not this one.

  • I get PISSED THE FUCK OFF when I type this song in and see ??

Fuckin Metallica and you take a sec to shake your head thinking WTF...

    Thank you Dean

  • metallica died with Cliff... This is original sin. The kind James Het and Lars would never comprehend the creation of :)

  • my best friend of 40 years died at the age of 55 on sept 10...he asked me to play this song at his wake if he died before me.....we cranked it....mike dennis rip....to young to leave us.....

  • Hell ya...

  • Gfy everyone who says metallica sucks. They are one of the few popular bands that actually has talent nowadays.

  • Metallica's version is awesome.. but this is the CLASS :)

  • this is true music

  • RARE !! you can only find the silver bullet band version..

  • metallica's version crushes this

  • @thememoryremains100 Yeah, if it weren't for this man, Metallica wouldn't have this song. Soooo no, it doesn't "crush" this version.

  • @thememoryremains100 shut the fuck up metallicas ruined this as they do ti with everything metallica is shit, Seger is god. fuck you

  • Metallica sucks dikzzz!!!!!

  • Awesome! radio always plays the live version but one night about 14 years ago i was working 3rd shift in a factory and they played this version on the radio. I've never been able to find it anywhere and I'd only met a couple of people that confirmed I wasn't crazy and a studio version existed. Thank you so much for posting, and proving I'm not crazy (about this anyway)!!!!!

  • Beautiful song! Beautiful song!

    Diego in Ivy!

("Enchanting Odyssey" by Ivy Garden Of The Desert)

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I met Bob a few times when he was just starting out. Those were the good old days.

  • bob seagar said he wrote this song about the great Waylon Jennings!

  • I love classic songs like this that tell a simple but awesome story. THIS IS REAL MUSIC

  • Love this version. Wish it was more commercially available.

  • Que temazo de la concha del pato! Bob Rules!

  • Wow I've loved this song for so many years and have to admit this is the first time I've listened to the studio version!

Just thought the live version was THE version!

  • finally awesome man thanks

  • finally a good version... being at a concert is nice, but if im listening to this at home, i dont need to hear people whistling, etc... (total garbage)... 5 thumbs up

  • This is one of the best songs ever made. I first saw Bob Seger System back in 68. My brother and me loved all his music. I had to lay my brother down a few years ago. Some friends of his sang this song at his funeral. As I was leaving town this song came on the radio... I had to stop and pull over because my eyes were running a bit. When ever I hear this song now i Think of my brother... I will always miss him and love this song.. Rock on Bob..

  • One of the greatest songs ever written and sung. Grew up in Michigan and grew up on CCR, Heart, Seger, and many others...AWESOME!!! Thank Bob...

  • wow i've searched a LONG time for this, happy to finally hear it. it doesn't hold a candle to the live bullet version, but i'm happy i've finally got to hear it

  • The studio version is a lot better then the live version

  • bob seger. man what a guy. what a great song

  • Admittedly, even though it sounded beyond familiar, I did not remember Bob's doing this song. It did make a very sad impact when Metallica's video came out long ago (I am a fan of both, and think both are equally great.) My question....I tend to analyze things to death, but I want to know...is Bob singing about life on the road as a band performer, or is the meaning closer to Metallica's interpretation? Can anyone advise me? Thank you for your time! (and thanks for posting this GREAT TUNE!)

  • Here I am, on the road again

  • can you send me a download link for this version please

  • metallica`s version is better..

  • Thanks for posting this.

I'd sell my soul, to live the life that's in this song...

  • Better than the later verion.

Though I wonder why they recorded this version with the saxaphone soundsing like it's far away from the microphone?

  • good version, but i like the Metallica version better maybe cause I grew up hearing that one more

  • I've never heard this version.. I think it's better LIVE.

  • @DoubleRushBand On the live version you don't hear the piano and the sax is much louder. Don't know. My first time hearing this version. They are both great if you ask me.

  • my favorite seger song, and the only one i'd ever care to cover in my own manner.

  • Sounds like crap to me. He sounds slow. Maybe I remember a different version.

  • @Millikay You remember the live version, which, in my opinion, was much better. I live in Detroit and we saw Bob live even in Highschool when he first started. He always does better with a big crowd!! This is still one of his greatest songs!! The man is awesome!

  • im thirteen and i love all his songs

  • @stojkovic48 You are proof that good taste doesn't require one to be an old bum like me. I salute you.

  • doesnt this remind ya of a rainy day and extremelly lonely maybe a depressed day of a lost love one ? with the setting of a old smoky bar with neon lights with a cold beer with a shot of tequila with it?? thats what sets the mood for this song. then the song ends and the next one is old time rock and roll. so cheer up and let the sun shine through while dancing in youre bloomers like tom cruize did. lol great songs for everyday feelings. godbless.

  • This song always brings three words into my head. FUCK LIVE BULLET. Why? Because that particular live version of the song is AWFUL in comparison to the studio version.

  • @kinginsomniac I agree. I like this better. In fact this is my first time hearing the studio version. It's much better, more peaceful. I don't like that loud saxaphone in the live one, doesn't fit the song very well.

  • This is the best version, it's wonderful!

  • THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS. Have not heard the studio version since about 1979/80 on the AOL radio station in Orlando. Back when there really was AOL radio.

  • sax and piano were beautiful thanks

  • Back In'72 should be reissued on CD and download.

It's just too good of an album to be left alone,Please Capitol Records,,

    re-release Bob Seger's Back In '72.

  • This version is incredible. So simple and raw yet at the same time perfect. The live version pales in comparison to this. Thanks for posting because I have been looking around forever trying to find this after hearing it a year back for the first time and hell I am 40 LOL.

  • thanks for uploading this! I've never heard this version before! =D

WHY DID 2 PEOPLE DISLIKE THIS?!? WTF?

  • Like many other, I've never heard this version of the song. Only the live one. So, thank you so much for posting this! Wow, just awesome.

    Cheers.

  • Wow, never heard the studio version. The piano adds a LOT to this tune. Thanks so much for the upload!

  • Like so many others that have commented, I too searched a long time for the studio version of this song. Thank you so much for posting! I find I must disagree with some of the comments I read while quickly scanning the page, I prefer the live version that appears on the Greatest Hits album - but this version certainly isn't a disappointment.

And once more, thank you so much for posting.

  • I was beginning to think this version was a myth. Thanks so much for posting!!!

  • I like this version better than the live version. I have the LP of Back in 72,

Brand New Morning, Noah, and Mongrel.

I've also got a cool Lp that has his early singles on it like East Side Story, Vagrant Winter, Very Few, and the studio version of Lookin' Back. He's got so many great songs most people have never heard.

  • I always wondered if there was a studio version of the song. Yet another youtube gem, thanks for posting it

  • Yeah he played this live before it was actually released as a studio version

  • thanks for posting this song and video, been looking for this version since 1980. thats the last time i heard it. live bullet wasent the first version.

  • @tomtheyank1 I'm glad you enjoyed it if you want the song i can send you a link its a very good sounding file much better than this.

  • that would be great dean, been a seager fan forever. been hooked after my first ever rock concert at the garden. that was the tour that beacame his second live album nine tonight. have loads of his early stuff on vinal, contact 7, mongral and smoking ops the seager system great old stuff, bob has a new on the old 60s stuff comming out soon, a cover of long time coming, sam cook, love the if i were a carpinter and love the one your with stuff, thanks dean.

  • @tomtheyank1 Wow! I have always loved Seger myself. My dad used to play the Seger System back in the day and I've always enjoyed old Bob I'll send you a link to the song and the album in a few.

  • @tomtheyank1 I saw him in concert after a bet with Mother. She wanted to go to yet another Jimmy Buffet concert; as it turned out, we were able to make both. It was in the days before the concert venue sets as they have today - much more laid back... I miss those days. I actually bought the album (vinyl) from this concert that night.

  • @DeanWinchester1979 Thanks as well these progressive classic rock station runs the live version in the ground { don't get me wrong i like the live version & i have the album } however the studio version is just as good.

  • I have been looking for this version for a long time. This is the First time i've heard it!! Thanks for posting !!

  • one of the few times the live version of a song is superior to the original studio version

  • ive heard this was re released on the B side of like a rock ..remember when you could get the single on cassete ???.. ive been looking for it but havent found it yet ...id give anything to hear Noah, brand new morning, back in72 in thier entirity.. i never have .

  • i cant help you find the cassette but i can find and remaster Noah , Brand New Morning , And the Back In 72 Album If you want me to and ill send you a link to download

  • If you google the name of the albums plus the word "blogspot" it will usually bring up a filesharing site that has those albums. That's how I got to hear brand new morning and back in '72.

  • This is just plain off-the-meter. So much better in my opinion than the live version that is overplayed on the radio! Thank you for taking the time to post this.

  • ooooh thank you so much for posting this version! its so hard to find.

  • big Seger fan here... i never heard this version and it is simply great. Thanks for posting this bro.
