Seems to me Eric doesn't bother himself with amp choice for many years now -- and why should he? After all, fender is a good choice to borough/rent from any music store thats closest that evenings gig. So a couple of additions to a fender amp model or two (and call it your signature model(s)) which you will be able find anywhere in the world when on tour -- why not? Personally I'm diggin' that Tremolux.
As much as Clapton may be one of my biggest influences, it's not secret that the quality of his music decreased after Cream. His solo stuff isn't all that great. Although, I have to say that his Unplugged performance of Tears in Heaven is the only song to make me cry. Ever.
i would work hard.....save save save.......finally get one of these majorly over priced babys home....plug in my strat and realize i still sound like myself......just a lot poorer :)
Shane seems like a really nice guy, I've noticed that in all of his footage I've seen. Unusual for someone in his position, they are usually much arrogant. GO shane. !!
Fender releases version III of the Hot Rod Series amp line among other things changing the control plates from Chrome to Black to make them easier to see (a good move), yet they overlook that imporovement on these higher priced amps. Pay attention to your own improvements Fender!

THE THING IS SHANE IS LIKE GREG COCH, THEY BOTH ARE AMAZING GUITAR PLAYERS, THEY PUT A LOT OF TIME IN TO PRACTICE, DOWN TO THEIR JOBS NEEDED THEM TOO, ONE DEMOS AMPS THE OTHER GUITARS, SO THEY NEED TO BE PLAYING ALL DAY, BOTH MONSTER PLAYERS
@Trakstar84 I just picked up a Fender 1966 Vibro Champ Amp. I figured I was searching for that "60's" sound, so I might as well get the real deal. I just bought a 3 tone sunburst Fender American Stratocaster. So the pair sound amazing together! I have heard great things about this EC Vibro-Champ. I figured I could save a few bucks and get the real deal! Vintage is the way to go, imo...
EC Twinolux is the one I would be interested in, but the problem is no store has these in stock and I live in L.A. they all want you to order it first. From this demo I really don't hear anything that makes me want to spend thousands of dollars. And the money is never the problem if I want it. The Deluxe reverb is my favorite amp period. other then the extra features & Eric's name on it, I don't think it sounds any better then the 57 Twin reissue before it.
Getting just the Twinolux EC gives you, via the speaker/attenation option, all three of the amps. SO ... '57 Fender Twin Amp with vibrato and tweed covering laquered PLUS
The EC Twinolux is $200 more (msrp) than the regular non signature model and it has extra stuff. I don't see the problem. If you can't afford it, don't buy it.
Tone in an amplifier is the product of the person playing through it, not of the amplifier exclusively. In my opinion this is one of the most versatile amplifiers I have seen, and I have been playing guitar as long, if not longer than Clapton.
I don't know why everyone is freaked over the price on the EC amps. It is an upgraded version of the '57 Twin Amp (Twinolux) and an upgrade to the '57 versions of all 3 actually. I recall the Marshall stack reissue boutique model being over $7,000.00. The price of the EC series at Sweetwater is the same as the '57s. Also, it takes a lot more labor to do a hard wired amplifier compared to wave soldering with IC chips which just do not have the tone of these Fender boutiques.
I'm looking for an amp that will capture the sound of an over-the-hill bluesman who has gone corporate and no longer cares about music. An amp that gives that "no soul" tone. Is this the amp for me?
@WalrusDoom Have you actually played these amps?......no! You've listened to short 10 second clips in an out of context situation and now think you know all there is is to know about them! I, on the other hand have played these amps and they sound beautiful.
As for Eric not caring about music anymore, you're just as wrong as you are about the amps, my friend.
Do some research into what you're saying before you open your mouth in future!
@75Stylist All I know is that once, Eric Clapton was probably one of the greatest grindcore drummers of all time. His work on Napalm Death's "Fuck Your Mom/Scum" split defines the genre. But then he lost all that fire, that passion, and kicked his meth habit, and he switched to blues saxophone played through a guitar amp. Why this has made him so famous I don't know, but I for one am not going to torture my ears with such corporate tapioca.
Never got the appeal of new Fender amps - their cleans sound cold&thin w/ no warmth or vocal character. The overdrive on amps iike the Hot Rod Deluxe/DeVille/whateva is bland&dull-sounding- you can't get high notes to sing w/o using a distortion or a compressor pedal either- even cranked up their flat tone just gets loud(er). Over the past 40+ years Fender engineered that honey-sweet, Fender amp "mystique" right out of their amps. Marketing keeps them in the amp business, not their amps' "tone".
@JKryanX I can compare by design and tonal quality...What do you think? Im talking of the first little amp by the way...Its sounds terrible for the price, its buzzy and farty. Probably because of the size. Point to point-ing doesnt make a good amp. It doesnt even have an eq...A Cornford RH, to anybody's ears, definitely has a 'good' sound. Maybe not the sound they desire, but undeniably a nice sounding amp. You would need genetically messed up ears to say it sounds terrible. And it has an eq.
@maneatingtoilets here's the thing, i never said cornford were bad, but if you are interested in a fender tweed, then steering someone towards a cornford is no help to them what so ever.
@JKryanX I wasn't trying to help/influence anybody. Just conversing, and probably venting a little anger about the system that allows such preposterous over pricing.
@EradicatedVoid if U think this sounds terrible, U either (A) don't play guitar, or (B) don't have a musical ear, because claptons last album had the vibro champ on a couple of tracks, and it sounded amazing, U are paying big bucks, because it is handwired, which takes time and man hours, but it is built as good as any DR Z amp, and it plain rocks
That is a sweet sounding amp. Not a big fan of the tremolo effect with any amp. But it's easy to turn off and there if you need it. I bet they're going to be salty. I would guess $400, $1200 & $2400 respectively. Eric's name alone jacks up the price by 20%. Worth every penny. 30 years from now, these will be "vintage".
