These computers copy ALL traffic. That is an example of an illegal wire-tap, with hundreds of thousands of victims; carried out by people who feel that they are beyond the reach of the law. Im not saying I dont care. "I dont know what went on in the secret room. All CALEA implementaions use this setup. Core equipment that your traffic is moving through doesnt have the feature set to pull out the data that there is a legal request for.

Warrantless isn't legal. What I am saying is that every comm company has to install these taps to copy everything on a network to a secondary source (legally) where there is hardware that is fast enough and smart enough to peel the information someone is looking for. There isnt anything in the report on the clip that says they did an illegal tap - in the room. Does that make sense? The tap isnt referring to the hardware, everyone has to have that..its part of the mandate. That make sense?

So installing that tapp that guy is talking about isnt illegal - the splitters. Its typical. Now if the equipment in that other room was pulling out information that there was a warrant for = legal. If somebody was just pulling whatever they want..that would be illegal.

It just drives me nuts because we only know what the media says. I actually looked at the install docs (public record) and it looks pretty typical. This just struck a cord with me because I just finished up a similar instal

People have been known to piggy back and steal cable. Because they can do it, does that make it legal?

On the same vain, just because the Telecoms can splice and tap warrantlessly, does that too make it legal?

Just because I have a cable box does NOT give me permission to piggy back and steal the reception. Likewise, just because the Telecoms have the equipment to splice and tap, that too does not grant them license to warrantlessly wiretap and spy.

The funny thing here is this is the same type of setup that ALL ISP/Telecoms use. The core equipment that routes your data and calls isnt built to peel off information for lawful capture. You copy all your information on a span port or with taps (like in the video) to a 3rd party solution. That is where they have a separate entity to pull out the information a person is looking for - a secret room haha. This requires court order information usually. **Continued**
