When it comes to sustain the Gibson (Les Paul) beats the Fender (Strat). Gibson has more sustain, cause the body is thicker and the guitar is made out of 1 piece of wood. Nevertheless I like both guitars. Both have their qualities. The Fender I prefer for it's weight and shape, for clean rhythm guitar and twangy kind of stuff. The Les Paul i prefer for rocky distorted rhythm guitar and solo work. Does it make sense what i just said? :-) Knopfler forever!

No, it's not. Mark is using a custom made guitar by an Argentinian luthier, Rudy Pensa. Check it out. Similar to a suhr more than an Ibanez

well Hendrix beats all but in his career he played both fender strat and a gibson V and he was a god with both of them...Page started Zeppelin with a tele and made some of their best songs with that guitar...i'm not saying the other songs aren't good with gibsons but that's a fact...they used both guitar brands and were amazing with both...this is quite a stupid competition.!.they all have different styles and tastes U can't compare them ! :)

Both are great guitars, just different.

Fender Strat, Tele and Jaguar match up with Gibson Les Paul, SG and ES-335.

Fender wins hands down as far as the bass goes while Gibson easily wins the acoustic battle.

It is a draw except when you get to amps.

Fender amps are iconic while Gibson missed the boat altogether on that one.

i love fenders, i cant play with gibsons cause of the neck and the neck joint, i never get further than the 16th fret on les pauls. for heavier stuff i'd sure take a gibson out of the 2, but if things get heavier i play jackson or schecter. strats just feel like a part of my body when i play them, very comfortable neck, and the only shape i know that is more comfortable is the bc rich warlock (true dream to play sitting down, sadly the guitars itself arent very good...)

its all personal preference. Its not the brand, its the style. Gibson has strats and Fender has LP's. i think every guitarist needs something with single coils and something with Humbuckers. everything about a guitar affects tone, so mess around. though my bias is towards the les paul :D
