• THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE UPLOAD!! It will help a lot on my presentation!

  • I was in this production as a Westminster Choir College student (the people in the blue robes behind the orchestra). So glad to actually see the show from the audience's prospective! Paul Groves and Kristin Chenoweth were so wonderful to work with - always appreciative of everyone else. The New York Philharmonic along with Marin Alsop, the conductor, were amazing! Thanks again for posting!

  • 3 people prefer Leibnitz to Voltiare. :P

  • lol kristin "what a pity its existence is of limited duration!!" *rips up rose* ... ':D

  • I just adore Kristin, this opening footage of her makes me love her even more. Precious.

  • the best of the best.......

  • Growing up a wind player, I became enamoured with the Overture. While developing vocally, I was exposed to more of the "singing which almost everybody insists on doing." (lol) When I finally researched the opera and subsequent musical, I was so saddened to learn it never really took off at first. Now, I find this gem which you have so graciously bestowed upon us as mannah in the desert and am greatful.

In other words: this is really kool.

  • thankyouthankyouthankyou!!!

  • 4 dislikes out of 237. Well, maybe not the best of all possible worlds!

  • OHMYGOD!!! Thank you sooooo much for this!!!

  • Lol I did wonder how Kristin was going to manage to jump over him haha :) that answers that one lol

  • LOL Kristin's smile after she rips the rose apart

  • they all are cousins??

  • where's their bass?

  • Um, Isn't Blumenkrantz totally miscast as Maximillian?

  • Is any of this recording available on iTunes?

  • How are the chorus members not jumping up and trying to get Kristen's signature... I'd be out of my seat.

  • i loves me some chenoweth :)

  • You know, Marin Alsop and the New York Philharmonic should get some credit here, too.

  • haha what a great show <3

  • Je ne comprends pas d'anglais.

  • Did they make a dvd of this?

  • @xxmoussexx they have video type but i donno if they have DVD = ="

you can download them and make one XD

  • I just read the novel...and now I'm watching this (again) for comparisons :) lol

The cast is amazing!! One of my favorite shows!

  • AAAAAAA!!! Barbara Cook is WAY better. And June Anderson too!

  • i was saw candide at the goodman theatre yesterday and it was amazing but i was in the balcony and in the middle of the overture someing on the floor took out theirr cell phone , it was compleatly dark which only made it worse i wanted to slap them

  • OMG this is so funny!!! GO KRISTIN!!!

  • What does the narrator says from: 3:20 to 3:47 ?

  • This is my third time watching this...thank you so much for posting :). I'll definitely be buying the DVD!

  • I am everything i need....bwahahaha!

  • Cheno is amazing!

  • is this the revised version with book by Hugo Wheeler and new revised lyrics by Stephen Sondheim? Or this is another revison by Bernstein?

  • Lenny would have loved this!

  • Does anyone know who conducted this ( lady )

  • @javilack I believe it's Marin Alsop.

  • Bit belated, but thank you very much for uploading.

  • Did you say you'd be able to send this whole show to people? Cuz that would be FANTASTIC! Just let me know how I can get ahold of the whole show. Thanks. :)

  • The fact that the ensemble is clapping and in those silly masks makes me laugh every time!

  • I love that te conductor is a woman, and I love this whole show! It is fantastic!

  • @loezzja lesbian conductors ftw

  • OPTIMISM? Haha.

  • love love love love love love.

  • I love how Cunagonde only plays the triangle, while the others plays violin and clarinet XD

  • And viola. Their instruments very much match their characters.

  • Ooops! I guess it is.

  • Lincoln Center is not Broadway!

  • @Rocketjay12 It actually is on Broadway. At the junction of Broadway and Columbus Avenue.

  • @drtmuir THANK YOU!! Off to NY in a week, TOTALLY going to see it!

  • @CATatthedisco I hope you didn't think I meant that this production is on Broadway now. I meant that Lincoln Center is located on the street Broadway.

If you want to see Kristen in something though, she's in previews in "Promises Promises."

  • 2:48

    Skip intro

  • 5:25 Is it just me or is Kristin the only one whose entrance gets applauded? Hahaha, Team Cheno!

  • Well, AtLastOnTheGround, if you were paying attention to what Sir Thomas Allen, Dr. Panglos, was saying in the beginning he said that this has no relation to Voltaires Candide. I think this show is fantastic and all of the actors are amazing. They nailed it.

  • where can i download this production of it. I really want it, i just can never get enough of these voices. lol

    Please let me know!

  • whatsoever falls in American hands becomes superficial.

  • Are you referring to this production or the operetta itself?

  • Then makes money all over the world and gets imitated by foreign countries. It's called show BUSINESS.

  • Tell it to the foreign countries who, as I said, spend big bucks for American "superficial" entertainment. Sure it's "only money" and "empty show." They love it.

  • i love this show<3

  • I'm gonna make my own Candide musical, I think it will start like this:

    In Westphalia born and raised,

Learning from Pangloss was where I spent most of my days.

    Philosophizing, thinking, dreaming all year

And knowing that the world was nothing to fear.

When innocent Cunegonde was up to no good,

Dropped her handkerchief and in a flirty mood.

I gave her one little kiss and the baron got scared

He said Go somewhere, as long as its not here!

  • What a fantastic cast! I loved watching it!

  • Kind of upsetting they cast a tenor as Maximillian...prefer the role as a baritone...but I guess that doesnt go with making the character into Stanford from Sex and the City (talk about glitter and be gay XD)

  • For Spaniards, A perfect operetta for your anthropological candidesque panglossian optimistic liar

     MR. Rodriguez Zapatero

  • We;re reading Candide in French and watching this, too!

  • Entire cast= awesome. I'm surprised the audience didn't all die from being over-exposed to amazingness.

  • I love everything about this production except for the old woman. I find the character annoying, and I can't stand that fake accent. Nothing against Lupone, though. I think I'd hate the old woman no matter who played her.

  • haha this is awesome

  • At 1:21, is that the guy that played Collins in the final performance of Rent on Broadway?

  • Maybe

  • sure is

  • When she says "Oh, Candide!" at 7:41 it reminds me a LOT of Lena Lamont's "Oh, Pierre!" in Singin' in the Rain.

But I love this show. :)

  • haha, LOVE Singin' in the Rain. And this too :D

  • LOL It does!

  • same here

  • does anyone have the beggining bit, like the backstage bit?

'though not an official one.. *broken heart*

    How I love Kristin <3

  • Haha I love it! Oh how i wish i lived in America...i would have loved to see something like this, exp if it had Cheno in it! Thankyou so much for posting this!

  • Cunegondes dress looks so much like the popular dress she wore in wicked

  • It IS that dress.

  • no it's not there's similarities but it isn't the 'Popular' dress

  • I stand corrected. I read (on a fan site) that the dress was patterned on the Popular dress. Then there was the inevitable discourse about whether the dress was handed over to KC after her run in Wicked. Blah blah blah.

Therefore, after more reading, I most bow to your wisdom and retract my earlier statement.

While the dress be SIMILAR, it is not, most certainly IS NOT the Popular dress.

    I am a fool. Thank you. G'night.

  • you're not a fool, just simply mistaken, I thought it was the Popular dress before i got that into Wicked and stuff, now I'm not as obsessed with Wicked and moved onto Patti which is why I watched Candide lol

  • ❝Therefore, after more reading, I most bow to your wisdom and retract my earlier statement.❞

    Not most, must. My bad.

  • Ms. Patti LuPone. Ah...

I was in Evita out in Cali back in ... 1986? 1985? Somewhere around then. Just as a singer and a drunkard who was abused by Peron's police. But I fell in LOVE with the show because of Ms. LuPone's performance.

    Brilliant.

  • ok im going to have to say

    Best. Overture. Ever.

  • hehe the little parts with the cast while the credits are rolling r cute
