This is just one of those crazy songs that totally represented the fun and anything goes feel of the 80's! I love the fashion, the hair, the makeup, the music, damn I just love it all! :-D Anyone who lived the 80's knows what I am saying when I say that that decade had a very special feel to it. Nothing like any other decade! It was fun and crazy and yet full of a kind of innocence that is so different from today. Life was just amazing living in the 80's! I know I had the best of times! :-D
This song is almost as old as me. I've been hearing it all my life, and I've always that it was one of the dumbest songs I ever heard but, yet it soooooooooooo damn catchy! lol
What U2 did with this in 1997 was something to behold; Have you seen the opening of POPMART? That kicked ass! Thanks to all parties involved, including M.
Thanks for this, this was my first favorite song on the radio as a kid. I still have the LP and the CD, but the CD version of a few songs (including this one) are a little different. But with my digital LP player I've recorded the LP into my iPod.
I was a phenomenon, by the mid eighties, began in the dying throes of disco era. It is now a vile medium. ( i miss the Fresh prince, a nd vanilla ice).

Wow, a lot of music snobs and elitists all over the comments. Seriously, quit bashing today's artists because of your own personal opinions and just enjoy the video.
Incidentally, here's what the word actually means:
a. The sense of entitlement enjoyed by such a group or class.
b. Control, rule, or domination by such a group or class.
How is mentioning the dislike another artist an act of elitism?! In a free country and free market, there is no "group" or "class" as such, surely? And I'm not ruling anybody, and if I did have such power, I would use it with the intent and level to which it was given to me
When I was little I used to think this song came out in 1931 cause there was a movie called "M" that came out that year and I used to think that this group was associated with the movie "M"
After around 3 months of listening to the soundtrack of the Night at The Roxbury, pop muzik, i decided to youtube this song, and wow its a remake of this?? 1979! really ahead of its time!!
for some reason..maybe b/c it was made in 79' ... I see this song (and few others) as the transtiional song that marks the begining of the 80's digital movement turning on...its like im in a time machine seeing these videos flash by and then this one..
"Pop Musik" was a smash hit for M back in '79. Unfortunately, M did not accomplish to top "Pop Musik" and M slowly faded into Oblivion, which made "Pop Musik" a much addictive and catchy one-hit wonder. Thank You, M. You drove everyone nuts with this gem.
@Motionedout I'm not sure if I'd say that simply using the same chord progression found within Soul Finger is stealing. Particularly when it's a popular and standard chord progression. If anything, it's a testament to the flexibility of music. 4 guys, all using the same progression, all ending up with drastically different and marketable songs.
@88beauzeau88 True, very true. Someone else said that the "Soul Finger" bassline actually sounded like the Beatle's "Taxman", (which ruins my theory entirely, lol). But of course people write songs independently of each other, with great success.
This song contains, in my opinion, the ultimate "Mondegreen" of all time! When this song came out in 1979, my friends (who were avid NFL fans of the Miami Dolphins football team) thought that this was a song about the Dolphin's famous quarterback, Bob Griese! We thought that they were singing, "Bob, Bob, Bob Griese! Bob, Bob, Bob Griese!" If you use just a little imagination, it really sounds like they are singing "Bob Griese"!
Anyone remember playing 45s at 33 RPMs? Did you do it on LSD? NO!! Don't turn the EP into an LP!! (at least without anchovies on your Tombstone pizza)
Back then it was all about how many records an artist sold, which meant bands and musicians could be creative and try different things, record companies scoured venues for unheard of, unearthed gems, and the outcome was sometimes outlandish, quirky but ultimately, highly talented one-offs like this.
Now it's recycled shite through so-called 'talent' contests, judged by record industry dictators like that cunt Simon Cowell and that talentless cock sucker, Louis fucking Walsh
I like this video. Miss thing and her earphones, him throwing records. THis was late 70s, not even early 80s. This was when video killed the radio star stuff.
