Sugarhill Gang themselves have cheapened as a result of Hank's plagiarism (even if I enjoy his delivery), and even though I still can't help but watch them, somehow the addition of Hen Dogg makes me imagine them all hooked up with IVs and screaming for a nurse. They can all still do their thing, but there's a cheapness there that wasn't present during the early days. Manufactured or not, these guys could rhyme back in the day and had a passion for it. Now they're rap historians.

After Mike and Gee left Sugarhill records because the owners Silvia and Joe Robinson stealing their money, Hank stayed behind. Mike and Gee went to keep the original group going and brought Hen Dogg into the group while Silvia and Joe replaced Mike and Gee with other guys forming a fake SHG. Joey Robinson (Silvia and Joes son) now claims that he is the original Gee and takes the money that Mike and Gee should be making (they're completely broke) because he illegally trademarked their names

haha, no problem. yeah, the whole situation is pretty messed up. The fake SHG makes all the money whether it be a commercial, album, or merchandise. The originals don't make a dime. They are fighting it in court right now to win their names back. The guy doing Gee's rhymes in the video you saw was Joey Robinson. He's the son of the founders of SugarHill records. He claims that he is the original Gee and either lip sync's or sings on top of Gee's original recordings when they perform live

@tdivad Hank's verse was originally written by Caz (Casanova Fly) as evidenced by his first line: "I'm the C-A-S-A-N-O-V-A and the rest is F-L-Y" So if you want to be technical going by ownership of said verse then Caz could be considered as part of the original gang as a lyricist, with Hank being the front man for Caz's lyrics, unfortunately without any credit for a long time.
