I really wish there had been an episode or an ark where Sanosuke got into trouble and wasn't strong enough to get himself out of but refused to ask for help, so he reforged the zanbato to make himself stronger. I really wish we had been able to see it again.

@Ektherion00 I don't know if it made it into the anime or not, because I believe it was during the Jinchuu arc, and it doesn't necessarily meet your requirements but there is the episode where he is protecting his family.

Also, the zanbato does come back for a little bit. It quickly gets destroyed again though.
