Dont let the ney sayers get to ya. They said the same crap before racing lawnmowers around a track @ 100mph was popular. These "engine builders" boasting 15hp builds lets you know right off the bat there clueless. Ive seen 50hp and better. Stick with it, that Linn Tech is a good school. I have a buddy that went through there auto program. Have you thought about mutiplying torque to the SC? Try using mutiple pullies or a mutiple gearset.
How about great job ! Who cares if it really works, you tried and still are. Most of these "couch potatos" couldn't due half of what you have done. Keep trying you will get it.
@ridinhonda4life i would not if i were you i had majour problems with the one i built it ran like crap and was all new parts/engine and would cost you at least 400 to get it running properley
i just started this simalar motor with simalar charger and works great and has 6 pounds of boost P.S. anybody that reads this whatever you do, DO NOT USE RUBBER HEATER HOSE
Geeze, Turbocharging & supercharging these single cylinder engines is pretty much a waste of time as the RPM's necessary to spin that turbo on a singles exuast pulse isn't there & the mechanical drag of the supercharger pretty much negates the gains at such a low RPM (35 years of building motors here) Cool though, try NOS or removing the head gasket to increase the comp, using a thin sheet of aluminum (cut your own) diaphram carb and use alcohol (start on gas) = 12-15 HP out of a std 5HP :-)
@longjonsilvrr nither it might lower it but really depends on how much boost is on it if its olny 5 psi probaly not but if your doing what im doing as in putting 10 psi to it and reving the crap outta it then it might last about 4to5 years
im doing this to a nine horse with 20 pounds of tq im just wondering could i make like 10 pounds of boost does that sound right ive got mine all setup just waiting to hear back from a buddy with some flanges
@roro879 not nessasairly if it is a new piston, rings and rod then he will be fine and the rod should be just fine because ive pulled apart one and seen the rod all id do is gride the casting lines away they say that'll make it stronger cause then theres nowhere for a crack to start
@kothb123. No offense there buddy but it's obvious you do not have much knowledge of forced induction, so please refrain from your half ass input. He made a super charger out of what looks to be a belt driven smog pump. Pretty dope idea man!
maybe run the carb right off of block. i think your losing too much fuel inside all the pipes and sc. just put an air filter where you have the carb and run the charge pipe onto the carb.
yes yes i know how a super charger works but if u take a HUGE super charger from say a camero and i put it on a 5 hp engin your not getting the right amout of psi, which is critical for optima performance
@TommyGullo I had a pressure gauge on it and for the short time it ran, i saw 3-4psi of boost. I only had it running for a few minutes and never changed to the overdrive pulleys.
There's a short 40 second video of me trying to get it running on here. The theory works and is proven, i needed to use a different style carburetor than the diaphragm style tillotson. Went to a float style carb and eventually got it to run consistently. Unfortunately i don't have any videos of that.
I have heard of go-kart builders using Ford F150 smog pumps, and supposedly it works really good but if it over-revs, it blows the head gaskets. good luck with your project.
If you run propane instead of gas you wont have the runner problem. Plus propane is 110 octaine. It saves a lot of headach when it comes to fuel delivery. I am going to use a couple of smog pumps on a 4cyl military 4a032 engine (looks like a small vw engine). It will run a propane carb. Let me know if your interested. I will post vids.
bad ass,, what do you figure the hp is at wot? 5+5 more, or less,,, or maybe even more? to bad you cant get him to idle down. maybe if you put in a propane injection at the head to turn on just at idle?
...on the subject of forced induction....y'all should check out the supercharged two-stroke videos....other really cool ones (videos) would be Scuderi engine, Tour engine, and Jan Ridders' super chill Scuderi engineering model...you might want to catch my "CAPTIVE PULSE" / Panthera Supercharger X 13 also...it's a hydrogen fueled piston supercharged OHV two-stroke engine...The current videos were quickies. I'm working on some better video...
The simplest solution that I've seen to the pressurized carburetor is to put the whole carb in an air-tight box and pressurize the whole thing. You will probably have to pressurize the fuel too as in use a fuel pump or pressurize the fuel tank too. In the end the carb works with pressure differentials and as long as the "ambient" pressure is the same around the carb it should work.
i did the same thing, i actually powered the engine by propane though. the old carb wouldnt give the engine enough gas to make it run so i drilled a hole in the carb and put a 1/4 inch copper tubing attached to a old torch on a propane tank. it worked okay, maybe 3 psi of boost, my smog pump was from the ford 400 cid in my mercury it was pretty badly worn out though. it wouldnt idle at all and it ran rough
By "fake" I'm referring to a leaf blower duct taped to the carburetor. Most of the videos on here are of smog pumps forcing air through a carburetor that was designed to siphon gas up a pickup tube. If you force induction this style carburetor it will run very lean if at all. By putting the supercharger between the carb and the block, i'm able to keep it a pull through system and maintain vacuum behind the carb. It works more like a traditional roots style blower on a SBC chevy
@724x4acchevy A blow through system is possible if you keep the pressure equal, the bowl to the intake, the pressure differential in the ventury will still happen under boost. In some cases no re-jetting is needed.
Drag bikes using a wippel or a turbo, not set up as a draw through, do this all the time mostly, I believe, because of idling problems an quicker throttle response. Nice job on the fab, by the way.
@robby844 also, these smog pumps are without a doubt able to produce boost. I installed a pressure gauge on this setup and it was able to produce 5psi. Unfortunately my intake runners were way too long and my fuel mixture fell out of the air by the time it got to the cylinder. The only time I could get the mixture to stay in the air was at wide open throttle. It would not idle at all.
@robby844 No, most smog pumps are nothing more or less than a vane supercharger or their design and function are the same.Unless the unit compresses the charge in the unit its self (as in Judson or Norman) it is not a true supercharger but a blower (like roots type or turbo-charger). No matter what you want to call the unit :supercharger (noun) , smog pump, or? it can still "supercharge" verb but, nothing "fake" about it.
wow nice job on the engine also i hope you have a billet racing rod in that cause those stock aluminum rods only handle 6100 and they still can throw a rod
Its a good idea to put an air resavor on the intake to even out the air flow. The smog pump doesn't have a steady air flow it has a pulse to it. See hanson supercharger corp for pic its the big funnel looking thing. It also has a pop off valve incase of a backfire into the intake. I'm just about done building my own.
lets see the thing run man ya caNT HAVE A video without the vroom

@longjonsilvrr Whenever you install power adders to an engine such as turbos, Noz, or superchargers, you increase the stress on the engine.
