I've been a Civil War reenacter, and I still find that more then half of the crowds that come to watch the acts don't know a thing about the Civil War. For example, I had one of the people from the crowd stop me and ask "are you fighting for north or south?" Be aware, I wear my Grey wool uniform with pride. That question really started to tell me how stupid people are sometimes, specially when it comes to the Civil War. If you can't tell who I'm fighting for... might as well not be there.

Lieutenant General Nathan Bedford Forest, obviously started it, but the KKK after it ended in 1870, Forest never looked back to the reformation of the KKK up until his death in 1877. @JFKFlevoland I don't know what they history they teach you in the 'States, but In we learned that the confederates were originally Loyalists in the American Revolution that did not flee to Canada or Back to England since 1/3 were Loyalists at the time. And overtime the influence grew which led to the American Revolution.

FACT - NONE of the flags of the Confederacy or Southern Nation ever flew over a slave ship. Nor did the South own or operate any slaves ships. The English, the Dutch and the Portugese brought slaves to this country, not the Southern Nation.
BUT, even more monumental, it is also very important to know and understand that Federal, Yankee, Union ships brought slaves to America! These ships were from the New England states, and their hypocrisy is atrocious.

ya I actually live in Australia now rather than the states but I have a few English mates down here and i can understand why you wouldn't care if its the British getting beaten... from what i gather English, Welshman, Scottish, Irish, the whole lot don't really get along very much. My English friends are always saying that they don't want Ireland and wales and Scotland to be independent haha. I've been a Civil War reenacter, and I still find that more then half of the crowds that come to watch the acts don't know a thing about the Civil War. For example, I had one of the people from the crowd stop me and ask "are you fighting for north or south?" Be aware, I wear my Grey wool uniform with pride. That question really started to tell me how stupid people are sometimes, specially when it comes to the Civil War. If you can't tell who I'm fighting for... might as well not be there.

At the battle of Antietam, when we were all lined up facing eachother to fire, the rebels fired a volley and some dude 7 guys down from us got smacked right in the forehead with a worm, fell straight back with a giant hole in his head gushing blood. They said it was a freak "accident"...well I know firearms and that was no accident.....

the civil war was not fought for slavery it was started for the idea of a seperate nation due to lincolns northern policies and the south wanted nothing to do with the north at that point so secession had happened and the true story was lost because the us tries to hide it, and the kkk was formed after the civil war by nathan beford forrest. im from ohio but i hate the north and im glad to be in john hunt morgans family tree

@uter94 KKK was started during the war actually. The KKK was formed from the early 1860's and had a quick end in 1870. Lieutenant General Nathan Bedford Forest, obviously started it, but the KKK after it ended in 1870, Forest never looked back to the reformation of the KKK up until his death in 1877. After he passed, it wasn't until the early 1920's the the Klan starting making a comeback.

The union didnt care about the slavery that was going on. The only thing they wanted was to preserve the Union. Before the war, Robert E. Lee (General of the Confederate Army) let his slaves go. Ulysses S. Grant (Union General) kept his slaves throughout the war. That says something. I may live in Ohio, which isnt in the south, but i respect the CSA more than the Union.

Yes the ideals of the Confederate are: A slave dependent economy. That is what they were mainly dependent on. That is what made them as strong as they were.
and the ideals of the Union: Were that they believed in free labor instead of slavery. To have freedom, to earn money and buy property. So between those ideals who do you think is wrong or right?

No the Civil War wasn't about the North righteously fighting for freedom for the slaves, it was about putting down the rebellion and restoring the Union. But to deny slavery was a key factor is deny the very culture and fabric of the Antebellum South. The south did secede because of political and economic pressures from the northern controlled Senate, but that economy hinged on slavery. Do not try and paint the Confederacy as some enlightened entity

I've noticed Southerners like to mention "the truth." I'm from California, and really respect the Confederates, and do believe that the North oppressed them and their way of life. However, I also believe that the South was in the wrong in the practice of slavery. So, I believe the south was right to rebel, but I don't completely sympathize with them.

@JFKFlevoland I don't know what they history they teach you in the 'States, but In we learned that the confederates were originally Loyalists in the American Revolution that did not flee to Canada or Back to England since 1/3 were Loyalists at the time. And overtime the influence grew which led to the American Revolution.
