@razielish Yes, lots of fun. I think this was back when Prayer of Mending didn't have a cool down so he used that and flash heal mostly making for a few close calls.
To the wrath babies that don't know this fight.. Krosh Firehand pops a bubble that negates all damage, its a magic effect that mages can SPELLSTEAL.. thus making mages the best 'tank' for him. Spellsteal his bubble, and mass damage to keep agro on him.
TBC > Wrath. (I miss TBC so much, was the best times in WoW, even cata doesn't compare)

Ahh, i too had this problem. What i did was offspec subtetly until you get barkskin. then once you get eye of the unliving, you put them all into the lowest tiers of farming, then use your 99str to pwn them noobys
mage tanking in gruul is the best thing i've ever done, but after the pre wotlk patch it was made to easily, i took him down to 20k on my own, but its still fun going to do it again on 80

I'll say any mage spec can tank Gruul. The most important aspect is to be using your spell steal to get that shield and any mitigating shields to mitigate damage when the shield is down. For frost, this is easy since we can use ice barrier, fire ward and if necessary to live, mana shield. For a fire mage its easy to pull because of scorch, but a frost mage can simply use icy veins and throw a frostbolt. You won't need icy veins to tank because if you do, you'll run out mana

It's not very hard tanking this mob. If you got atleast 1 eye, it's do-able ;-) With some specialized addons, you don't need any - as long as you can hear.
Mage should do the pull, preferly with a Blessing of Protection from a paladin. Start with a fireball or pyroblast, just to assemble some quick aggro. Then just "finish" him of with scorches. When he uses his shield, you stopcasting and spellsteal. Rinse and repeat.

Steal his spellshield, back up to avoid his fire AOE nobody melee him,his aoe sux Use DBM to help your timing:) TY again for vid AND MUSE! <3 GL mages! After 1st success you'll enjoy doing this

i am mage tank for my guild and fire resistance doesnt help in this fight i looked it up. All you need it Gladiator gear for spell damage, Stam, some intel and it is nice to have a little bit of spell hit so they dont resist your spellsteal
u gotto have "of stamina" gear with fire resistance to take the damage otherwise your just as good as any other nub ur raiding with. and u gotto watch what the boss is casting cause u gotto use spellsteal at the right time or ur fucked
fire resistance gear doesnt help with this boss, it goes through it...u only need some pvp gear, i have 15 k hp with raid buffs and pvp gear, more than enough =)
we've done this on krosh as well. However, the mage doing it should have plenty of health. Believe it or not, the last mage who did this for us had about 12k health.
That's not really hard to believe tbh, with pvp gear mages get easily over 9000 health unbuffed and ~11-12k health buffed. I would say the minimum is like 10k health buffed just to take one fire ball without oneshotting you.
It's easier to do this as frost at least easier for the healers. If you pop frost barrier and fire ward just before the renewal of the next shield you nearly completely absorb the whole blast:) Frost ftw also for pve (if you want to spare healers that is:P)

I pulled with a pom/pyro blast. And no this isnt eclipsed from dethecus, its eclipsed from Anetheron. The guild disbanded about 4 months after this movie.
i think you were doing somethingwrong then because you need 1 healer for the mage, there is nothing so easy as healing the mage in gruul he only takes very few damage if he use te right spells.
When that guy uses this spell reflecting spell or something the mage has a move than can take it away from him and use it against him. Works really well but this is only what I heard.
depends on your gear, really. I'm arcane/frost with 2xT4, so for me spamming frostbolt is the most efficient move since it's uninterruptible due to set bonus and has a good damage/aggro ratio, which means by the time the others get to focus on Krosh, I'm well ahead in threat.
If you don't have 2xT4, you may be better off with scorch for the faster cast = less chance to get interrupted. no clue how you'd fare mana-wise.
Woah, youtube emails u when ppl respond to ur shit. Well it would seem everyone hates me for that last post :D ,the modivation behind it was this: Guilds like "plan b" and "crimson" (greymane) have requiremetns for how many hours you have to be on each week, but clearing bt and hyjal only takes so long, so they do stuff like gruul. With a caster tank, just cause they can. I was kinda hopeing to see that, if you still find you hate me you can direct your comments to the fattest part of my ass ^.^
You should be able to kill HKM within 5 minutes..this fight was way too long. And, for those that don't know. this is not gruuls...this fight is High King Maulgar.
His fireball hits for like 9Kish and armor doesn't reduce magic effects. The ONLY way to kill him to spellsteal his sheild. His shield is super strong, but of course there is a time every 30 seconds or so when he doesn't have a shield and it faded from you. He will do between 9-11K dmg with a fireball at that time. This why the mage needs high hp (14K is perfect fully buffed) and a detcated healer. Between his shield and fire ward, hes easy. Do it as fire the first time, frost range is hard.
the add that is tanked does a very damaging aoe when melee DPS or tank is used, the mage tank is useful because u can spellsteal the shield he uses, and fireward also helps, the add is taken down mainly by using ranged DPS
Don't get on the whole Warrior tank/Paladin tank thing. Paladins are better for multi-mob pulls where as warriors are better for bosses. I am pretty sure that Illidan has to be tanked by a warrior - I have not played a paladin, do they have something equivalent to Shield Block? (The move, not the stat)
Hobbs is not a tank, he just runs instances for lowbies and I'm pretty sure if you put him tanking in a heroic instance every 'Joe the Warrior' would tank better.
The mage tanks krosh to spell steal his shield, melee cannot tank krosh because his blast spells hits very hard on melee, this is why you never see melee taking down krosh in a raid, he gets demoed by ranged dps after blindeye, olm, and kiggler are down while melee sticks to maulgar.

Hey you guys i'm a hunter. They dont suck because they cant tank or pull as many creeps. In fact, yea, we cant do anything without our beasts. but thats because we are BMs who have 40 pts in beast mastery you noob. if we were mark or survival (they're actually pretty good) then yeah, pets dont matter for us. My hunter is number two on damage meter in almost all raids, number one is a BM hunter. I am marks. Hunters are useless... Yeha what would tanks do without misdirect?... It makes thins easier... Kara, traps yeah...useless also? You could have alot of priests but how many are there out there..
Hahahaha, you make me laugh. What would tanks do without misdirect? The same thing they do usually, misdirect just helps the OT, and only if you have a shitty offtank. As for traps, it's the most unreliable CC out there. For Kara I would rather have a mage poly, or priest shackle. I've raided Kara on all four classes, Mage, Huntard, Warrior and Priest and I have to say it was quite bad on a hunter. Now I am not saying they are useless,I just always like a bit of debate.
Well in kara you can have priest shackel, however my server seems to have 1% priest... Many mages, hoever many of kara's mobs are undead. Undead cannot be pollymorphed. Fear, too risky. Im not saying hunters are the best dps class out there by far. There are many hunters that can out dps many other classes, and there are many more hunters that cant beat the tanks in damage.
maybe cause your a crappy hunter. and fyi hunters are becoming more of a cc class ever since blizzard allowed us to lay traps in combat. MD does help the MT. you dont need it but for dps race fights kaz'rogal, teron gorfiend, etc it helps alot

Why would you say hunters are useless?
On my hunter, the only class I can't match up to on the damage meter is a mage, but who the hell wants to be a mage when 35% percent of most servers consist of mages.
You kidding? Hunters are the easiest to level and a gold grinding class. Everyone and their cousin has one. Mages are harder to level because if you pull an extra mob, you die. Super squishy. hunters, you don't die. You have a pet tank, which you can heal and do good amounts of DPS. Pet dies, you feint death. Easy levelling. Also you can take 4-5 mobs easy (mind, you can do that on a mage too)
Hmmm.. hunters are cowerds.. they cant do it without there pet, without there pet.. they are just NOOBS!=D. and i can pull 10 mobs if i want... not that hard.. mage is the best AoE... and if a hunters pet pulls 10 then you MUST use feingh death or else your dead.
You seem to be forgetting that you are still getting hit during AoE, and it is slow DPS, not burst damage. So, if you don't have heals, and you try to take 10 mobs, you won't even get one (Assuming its a same level mob)
tanking in ALL MMORPGs means whoever is taking the damage.. regardless of how that damage is being dealt.. from range etc etc.. the source taking the damage from main target is the "tank"
im currently mage tanking this fight, gnome mage , normaly im full on fire but i respec for this fight pom pyro, i save my pom for the second pyro first i pyro pull , i count down on vent so that the hunter can misdirect at the same time. i spell steal the bubble , throw on my fire shield and i pom pyro. i want to generate the most threat that i possibly can so that krosh wont hit my healer. i let the rest of the raid dot krosh but not attack him. i wear greens 15,568 hp raid buffed.

I've worked on my mage tank set, and i'm at 12,773 health unbuffed, about 15,500 raid buffed, 16.02% spell hit (which is the hit cap), 6971 mana self buffed, which is more than enough. I've got a screenshot of me hitting 21.1k health, that shit was insane.
Wow never tanking this i came here to see what I have to do....and with some pvp gear and greens that are 100% stamina i have 9.1k health and 8.3k mana and 600 spell damage. This is all unbuffed
Currently i pull all 5 raid grps from raid screen..And place then on a line. Then I click the person needing heals and HOT him..Put downside is that it takes away my wiew making it hard to notice incomming damage and stuff like that..
Anyone know a cleaver little addon that will ease my worried mind?

Yeah, it is super easy. I've even done it as frost. Tho, I find it easier if I pull first instead of them.

It's easier to do this as frost at least easier for the healers. If you pop frost barrier and fire ward just before the renewal of the next shield you nearly completely absorb the whole blast:) Frost ftw also for pve (if you want to spare healers that is:P)

I pulled with a pom/pyro blast. And no this isnt eclipsed from dethecus, its eclipsed from Anetheron. The guild disbanded about 4 months after this movie.

i think you were doing somethingwrong then because you need 1 healer for the mage, there is nothing so easy as healing the mage in gruul he only takes very few damage if he use te right spells.

depends on your gear, really. I'm arcane/frost with 2xT4, so for me spamming frostbolt is the most efficient move since it's uninterruptible due to set bonus and has a good damage/aggro ratio, which means by the time the others get to focus on Krosh, I'm well ahead in threat.
If you don't have 2xT4, you may be better off with scorch for the faster cast = less chance to get interrupted. no clue how you'd fare mana-wise.

Woah, youtube emails u when ppl respond to ur shit. Well it would seem everyone hates me for that last post :D ,the modivation behind it was this: Guilds like "plan b" and "crimson" (greymane) have requiremetns for how many hours you have to be on each week, but clearing bt and hyjal only takes so long, so they do stuff like gruul. With a caster tank, just cause they can. I was kinda hopeing to see that, if you still find you hate me you can direct your comments to the fattest part of my ass ^.^

You should be able to kill HKM within 5 minutes..this fight was way too long. And, for those that don't know. this is not gruuls...this fight is High King Maulgar.

His fireball hits for like 9Kish and armor doesn't reduce magic effects. The ONLY way to kill him to spellsteal his sheild. His shield is super strong, but of course there is a time every 30 seconds or so when he doesn't have a shield and it faded from you. He will do between 9-11K dmg with a fireball at that time. This why the mage needs high hp (14K is perfect fully buffed) and a detcated healer. Between his shield and fire ward, hes easy. Do it as fire the first time, frost range is hard.

the add that is tanked does a very damaging aoe when melee DPS or tank is used, the mage tank is useful because u can spellsteal the shield he uses, and fireward also helps, the add is taken down mainly by using ranged DPS

Don't get on the whole Warrior tank/Paladin tank thing. Paladins are better for multi-mob pulls where as warriors are better for bosses. I am pretty sure that Illidan has to be tanked by a warrior - I have not played a paladin, do they have something equivalent to Shield Block? (The move, not the stat)

Hobbs is not a tank, he just runs instances for lowbies and I'm pretty sure if you put him tanking in a heroic instance every 'Joe the Warrior' would tank better.

The mage tanks krosh to spell steal his shield, melee cannot tank krosh because his blast spells hits very hard on melee, this is why you never see melee taking down krosh in a raid, he gets demoed by ranged dps after blindeye, olm, and kiggler are down while melee sticks to maulgar.

Hey you guys i'm a hunter. They dont suck because they cant tank or pull as many creeps. In fact, yea, we cant do anything without our beasts. but thats because we are BMs who have 40 pts in beast mastery you noob. if we were mark or survival (they're actually pretty good) then yeah, pets dont matter for us. So shut your mouth until you know what your talking about. jerks.

My hunter is number two on damage meter in almost all raids, number one is a BM hunter. I am marks. Hunters are useless... Yeha what would tanks do without misdirect?... It makes thins easier... Kara, traps yeah...useless also? You could have alot of priests but how many are there out there..

Hahahaha, you make me laugh. What would tanks do without misdirect? The same thing they do usually, misdirect just helps the OT, and only if you have a shitty offtank. As for traps, it's the most unreliable CC out there. For Kara I would rather have a mage poly, or priest shackle. I've raided Kara on all four classes, Mage, Huntard, Warrior and Priest and I have to say it was quite bad on a hunter. Now I am not saying they are useless,I just always like a bit of debate.

Well in kara you can have priest shackel, however my server seems to have 1% priest... Many mages, hoever many of kara's mobs are undead. Undead cannot be pollymorphed. Fear, too risky. Im not saying hunters are the best dps class out there by far. There are many hunters that can out dps many other classes, and there are many more hunters that cant beat the tanks in damage.

On my hunter, the only class I can't match up to on the damage meter is a mage, but who the hell wants to be a mage when 35% percent of most servers consist of mages.

You kidding? Hunters are the easiest to level and a gold grinding class. Everyone and their cousin has one. Mages are harder to level because if you pull an extra mob, you die. Super squishy. hunters, you don't die. You have a pet tank, which you can heal and do good amounts of DPS. Pet dies, you feint death. Easy levelling. Also you can take 4-5 mobs easy (mind, you can do that on a mage too)

Hmmm.. hunters are cowerds.. they cant do it without there pet, without there pet.. they are just NOOBS!=D. and i can pull 10 mobs if i want... not that hard.. mage is the best AoE... and if a hunters pet pulls 10 then you MUST use feingh death or else your dead.

You seem to be forgetting that you are still getting hit during AoE, and it is slow DPS, not burst damage. So, if you don't have heals, and you try to take 10 mobs, you won't even get one (Assuming its a same level mob)

tanking in ALL MMORPGs means whoever is taking the damage.. regardless of how that damage is being dealt.. from range etc etc.. the source taking the damage from main target is the "tank"

im currently mage tanking this fight, gnome mage , normaly im full on fire but i respec for this fight pom pyro, i save my pom for the second pyro first i pyro pull , i count down on vent so that the hunter can misdirect at the same time. i spell steal the bubble , throw on my fire shield and i pom pyro. i want to generate the most threat that i possibly can so that krosh wont hit my healer. i let the rest of the raid dot krosh but not attack him. i wear greens 15,568 hp raid buffed.

I've worked on my mage tank set, and i'm at 12,773 health unbuffed, about 15,500 raid buffed, 16.02% spell hit (which is the hit cap), 6971 mana self buffed, which is more than enough. I've got a screenshot of me hitting 21.1k health, that shit was insane.

Wow never tanking this i came here to see what I have to do....and with some pvp gear and greens that are 100% stamina i have 9.1k health and 8.3k mana and 600 spell damage. This is all unbuffed

Currently i pull all 5 raid grps from raid screen..And place then on a line. Then I click the person needing heals and HOT him..Put downside is that it takes away my wiew making it hard to notice incomming damage and stuff like that..
Anyone know a cleaver little addon that will ease my worried mind?
