i built a similar one 1 peice body musikraft neck and great hardware for just over 1000 when i compare it to my friends valley arts we both like mine better.
I guess the deal for the guys who don't want to buy the real deal is to build one from good parts. The three SDs will set you back about about $300 and then you just need a host guitar and a new three knob plate for say $100. S/H USA Tele would do the job at say $600-700. So $1000 for a similar beast. Buy the SDs from my luthier and he'll fit them for nothing - you're there. After all it's what Brent did to hid Tele originally.
@ChristopherDowning Spot on. A Korean/mexican Fender Lite Ash Special Edition (2004-2007) fits the specs and is very well built. Lite Ash body and birdseye maple neck. Can be bought 2nd hand for about 350 euros (europe). I'm Setting mine up like brent's.
@InstrumentalofMe Hi, Don't waste time on buying the overpriced guitars. Go to Fervor Pickups.com and get great pickups to spruce and raise your game for a few extra dollars. See ya!
@12dennistimmer Well, his sound comes a lot from hybrid picking, but he uses his fingers just as much, if not more, as the pick. If he's like most hybrid pickers, he has well maintained nails. My own technique, while hybrid and often country sounding, is completely different from his, so I sound much different. No one will sound exactly like Brent, because his sound comes from his actual hands.
I love this video, but have you seen some of the videos on STRUMANDFRET (dot) INFO AMAZING!!! Especially if you are just starting out, or if you are looking to improbe your skills. Go check it out!
I have one of the old Trace Elliot Speed Twin tube amps from just before Gibson bought them out. Amazing amp ! 30 watts, Just right. A little heavy (in pounds I mean) but tone to burn.
Yeah, that's a Gibson Gold Tone. Originally, it was a Trace Elliott, but Gibson bought the rights to it. It's class A and (correct me if I am wrong) has 30 watts of unfettered tone. I don't think Ginson makes them any more, though. I own a single 12" model I use in a ABY setup with a Fender Blues Junior. Dirty and clean at the same time!
This is the ultimate axe in my opinion. I have played for 40+ years, Pauls, Teles, Strats, Sears and Roebuck, you name it. I have never played one of these (sure could not afford one) but convinced it is just listening to it, it is sweet. Course Mason could make a Squire sound like a million dollars. Most of the time it's not the axe, but the picker.
I love this guy but there's one thing about this video that bugs me.
He says that he couldn't afford much. But he has a talk with someone and commissions the designing and building of this guitar. I can guess that isn't cheap.
The guitar that this signature model is based on is a 1962 telecaster that he had modded. $200 in pickups and about $100 in shop time is sure a lot cheaper than buying a Tele, Les Paul and a Strat.
I agree! Killer tone. Fender and Gibson rolled into one or one or the other. Great axe with a great sound, but of course the picker's fingers has a hell of lot to do with that! Brent rules.
It could happen, Exxon and Mobile merged to create a monopoly-esque monster to drive up our gas prices. Mergers are all the rage these days, so I can see Gibson and Fender merging one day, I hope they don't though, I hate mergers. Oh oops, I thought that was a Fender Telecaster, I should've read the title. Thanks for correcting me and for the info on Valley Arts guitars, didn't know anything about 'em prior to your reply.
i don't know bout that dude, he may have but he may just have a modified fender tele. Kinda like the one he was talkin about earlier in the vid or he may have a fender tele brent mason signature guitar or something like that.
that would be so awesome if he had a fender mason signature!! but wouldnt there be a copyright thing with gibson and fender...cuz valley arts is Gibson made...so idk..he prob just replaced the valley arts neck with a Fender
Brent has a few of these but the valley arts is a replica of brents tele (wich is a 1968 fender telecaster) so he didnt switch out the neck the main one is a old fender painted with primer coat that is that grey color and has all those mods)
Damn thing has nice tone. No need for valley arts though, just take a fender tele and mod the hell out of it and you have the same thing. Well, maybe throw in a gibson goldtone to round it off.
Essentially a Gibson? The only thing Gibson about this guitar is the humbucker and the fact that Valley Arts is owned by Gibson. If you meant its essentially a Fender, I agree, since Valley Arts is copying Mason's 68 telecaster that Joe Glasser of Nashville modded by adding the extra pups and controls.
HAHAHA ! too right bro :o). Incredible how many "musicians" on youtube need some serious ear training. I'm actually more of a fan of brent's jazz playing but damn listening to him and brad paisley play that tele country stuff is a headtrip! I'll never like it enough to pursue it as a style myself but brent transcends the style and just grabs your mind doesn't he ?
I forgot about this comment. I read it again. boy do I sound like a smug jerk. argh. sorry.

the reason it doenst sound like his other is because he uses a fender twin reverb. NOT a gibson.valley arts is owned by gibson.gibson aint gonna let him use a fender in a gibson commercial. the gibson aint as clean as his normal fender or matchless tone

Why is Gibson posting this video w/ a Fender artist? Have Gibson and Fender merged?
