@yogsothoth2099 : You need a midi guitar converter and a sampler unit. Roland makes one. It attaches to your bass at the bridge. You can then use your bass or guitar to trigger any sampled sound like Pat Metheny does. Piano, drums, saxaphone whatever. I played one at a friend's house. When you play the piano sound and you slide your hand up the strings it sounds like your running yr hand up the piano keyboard and hitting each note individually rather than just a bass slide. Very cool.
@cathridge - That's absolutely not a new thing! Alain Caron (a terrific Canadian bassist) was using it on his bass in the mid-eighties when he was playing in the band Uzeb.
I dig the jaw-dropping, incredible skills displayed here. But... :-( I think the electric bass guitar sounds beautiful enough on it's own. Give me soul crunching slap a-la Marcus Miller any day. :-)
to be honest i dont actually like this that much i just dont like the tone of the effects, dont get me wrong it was awesome but just not my cup of tea
ok....so I see why this video is titled as it is. Wow, crazy effects he's got. It took me a while to realize that there wasn't a keyboard playing, that the whole time it's all bass. hahaha, wow. He's the man.
It saddens me deeply to see that every time someone tries to open new paths, no matter on what field of human activity, a crowd of guardians of the rules and traditions will jump on them and tear them apart, hate them, etc.
These are the people who hinder evolution, or make it harder.
I know right, It seems like if us bass players want to some thing different no one will let us. So I say let us piss some people off, first off a bass is an instrument like a guitar sax violin, it makes sounds right. Second music is nothing more than ORGANIZED SOUND. THIRD, music is an art form, if you don't like it WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE?
@JazzScene Tell it like it is! You speak the truth about the gaurdians of the rules and traditions. For it is them who tell people that this is not the proper way to play bass, drums, etc. The way I see it, is that music is suppose to be a way to express yourself so you can play whatever you feel like. Forget all them haters. You can play what you feel like playing regardless of all the traditionalist are saying. Thanks Tetsuo & Akira for paving the way for us musicians.
@JazzScene Your my kinda guy ,,its only for the few who really grasp the new things and not to b main stream ,,pioneers are alway,s rare .and it should. B cool my friend James.
well this is gay. it's just a matter of buying an big ass synth and play with the knobs. i have several bass effects which can make sorta weird sounds like this, but do you ever need it? no, cause you're the bassist and play fuckin bass and bands have keyboard players for this kind of sound.
What bass players are not allowed to have fun, yes I understand that I am supposed to hold a groove but why can't I have some fun every once in a while aeh?
Yeah, yeah, and why not play guitar if you want six strings, I've heard it all before. A keyboard is a piano with sound effects, any instrument can trigger those sounds, you don't just need a keyboard.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I heard a keyboard player use a string sample once. What a loser, why didn't he learn the violin, cello, viola and bass and record them all. And I heard a trumpet player using a distotion pedal!!! Hello, only guitar can use distortion, that's the rule.
What the hell? First of all, it's not uncommon for many artists to use synthesizers instead of the real thing. I mean, do you wanna learn all of those instruments? Second, anything can be distorted, there is no rule. I've seen distorted bass, acoustic guitar, sax and keyboards all sound great before. Well, maybe not the sax lol
I was joking. I was pointing out how small minded people can be. A synthesizer is only software that can be used on any instrument. I don't like it on any, but that's me being small minded.
I bet you're an egotistical shitty guitarplayer right? fuck you do you know how many bass players have used distortion pedals you closed minded fuck. including jaco pastorius hate on him if you can.
@atomicrooster Sorry man, I was taking the piss out of someone else with sarcasm, which doesn't work out of context. I'm an egotistical shitty bassist giving out to small minded people who believe that bass is four strings holding a groove while people solo endlessly.
@clancywiggam hahaha dude its all good. I thought you were one of those 4 year old guitar players with $4000 instruments talking shit on the internet.
The chord progression has some parts which are very similar to Jaco Pastorius' "Havona" with Weather Report. Then you've got a quite Japanese sounding section and the cool solo. Nice.

RaldyV 2 years ago 3
A bass, when connected to the right module, can be a synth.
RaldyV 2 years ago 5
@Ferenczi69Aron
A bass is an instrument to make music on, and clearly that is being done in the video.
bassguitarkeybordwiz 1 year ago
It basically is a synth you can turn anything into a synth if you have that much equipment
bizarreparadox 2 years ago 2
if you played this with out the video 10 times out of 10 ppl would say that is a synth playing not a bass
