@FGalaxie So you hate "Japs" because they have no honor tradition or culture? You do realize they are MUCH more advanced than the west while they KEEP their traditional culture fairly well.... I can't believe how brainwashed you are.
@OpeiGrafikka that is awesome. I wonder if that could be possible for an N/A 13b bridgeported or Peripheral Port engine or something, I'm sure that set up is super expensive
@Erv187 Would be relatively easy to modify an existing variable stack to suit, though the tuning map could take some time to get right. There are a few Mazda, Honda and Vauxhall 6 and 8 cyl engines running variable stack or 'variable charge' intakes from factory, though I believe the Mazda and Vauxhall variety use a valve system to mimic the resonance of a shorter or longer stack.
The difference in length is to achieve a pulse frequency of the intake opening vacuum being met by a velocity pulse of air returning the intake vacuum from the previous cycle to median air density.
if the length of the velocity stack is the right length for the delay required at a given RPM, the pulse of air hits the intake valves milliseconds after they open, helping the charge the cylinder with as much air as is possible without a forced charge system.
@turbonitroso7 ok, fine, the intake ports... I was actually referring to the variable stack setups I know of on conventional combustion engines, the theory is still sound for rotaries, though I imagine a different port setup would be required or half your fuel would be lost in the blow-by.
so sue me, it's been years since I worked on a rotary. :)
@FaytTang My favourite subject... The rule changes were planned and set in stone not later than 1989/1990. 1991, when Mazda won, was already a transitional year with two categories of cars. Merc-Sauber, Jaguar and newcomer Peugeot had already built cars for the new rules. Since the rule change also "banned" turbo engine and anything larger than 3.5L, most of the grid needed new engines. "Case Mazda", back then merely a coincidence, now somehow a worldwide conspiracy against wankel.
Fastest laptime of this car around the Circuit de la Sarthe in 1991 was a mere 3.42 almost 7 seconds slower than the Mercedes team, but the Mercs and Jags ran into trouble. This car would have no chance whatsoever in this day and age, it would run between the GT's probably. Still it was awesome to see irl.
The GTs run around 3:55s on average, so no. Mazda also never really pushed in the race. They wanted to keep a constant pace. They knew the other manufacturers' cars were less reliable and took a gamble on that. It paid off.
@Atheismrulez The drivers of the No.55 car were told to push because the car was so reliable and fuel-efficient that the drivers didn't have to worry bout saving fuel and all that.
And as you said, the other cars were less reliable *cough* schumi *cough*, thus proving the old adage to finish first, one must first finish.
It was awesome on the Circuit des 24 Heures du Mans last weekend! You could hear it from the Porsche Curves screaming down the Mulsanne straight on the other side of the track! Man what a thrill to see it driving and being able to touch it later on at the entrance of the museum on the edge of the track! Win!
@MyRidgeRacer : The 787B is racing in the Le Mans Classic race for Group C and GTP cars, not the actual 24H. The car would never be competitive against the current crop of LMPs. Also, the 787B was built by ORECA, which is the same team that brought us the Viper GTS-R, Peugeot 908 FAP and the entire Formula Le Mans grid since it is a spec chassis. Check out Podcasts from Radio Le Mans for more info and coverage of the race.
The 787B was not built by Oreca. Oreca just run one of the cars in the WSChampionship on 1991... The car was built and developed solely by Mazda/MazdaSpeed
Check out the ITB's in the begining of the vid. Theyre hooked up to a servo so that the runner length is variable.

The Japanese are the gods of the race world. (GT40 I'll include so you don't yell at me)
madjimms 2 months ago 2
@madjimms The Japanese are the copiers of everything, people without honour who copy European and American designs.
Scum who make rice burners.
FGalaxie 2 weeks ago
@FGalaxie Actually many US companies copy Japanese design because (it works!) If you love America just suck Jebus Krists dick & Uncle Sams asshole!
madjimms 2 weeks ago
@madjimms Im not an American in any shape or form.
And the Japs have never had an original automotive design.
FGalaxie 2 weeks ago
@FGalaxie Why does something have to be "original"? to be good?
madjimms 2 weeks ago
@madjimms tradition, honour, culture.
Ricers and the japs have none. just evil hethen copiers.

@madjimms Dont give me that crap, if they had culture and tradition they wouldnt copy everything under the sun.
Even the only 2 classic cars they have were designed by a european.

@FaytTang At least Sauber showed some consistency and _domination_, unlike Mazda, by winning not only Le Mans but World Sportscar Championship twice.
