  • One of the Lovings passed away a few years ago.

  • Mildred Jeter Loving was my great aunt. I'm very proud of her and the love that she had for her husband and family. Coming from a multicultural family on both my parents side, I have always approved interracial relationships. My two oldest sons have an Irish/Choctaw/Black father and I have a Cherokee/Black mom and a Rappahannock/Cherokee dad and very proud of being mixed. Love is color blind!

  • The states are wonderful?

  • Amazing story indeed!

  • Thanks to this couple and countless others like him I was able to marry my husband last yea. Although a lot has changed we still have to deal with racism... like looks in the grocery store or even from immediate family members threatening to disown us. Just because we are different colors has nothing to do with how we love..Oh and ps sex doesn't make a difference either :)

  • wonderful story

  • Conservatives today are just as nasty as conservatives back then, they will never change. Most of them do what the do because they believe they are right, but if you ask them if they would like to be treated the same way by someone else they say no.... Its simple, don't treat others in ways you don't want to be treated.

  • @vaticinus You are so wrong. I'm conservative and am for everything the Loving's were for. You really don't know what you're talking about.

  • @mamagrackle Conservatism doesn't always equal racism. Conservatives regardless of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, wealth, nationality, or religion are defined by their lack of compassion for people outside the group(s) they associate themselves with. Their target(s) of discrimination could be any or all of the usual inherent differences such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, wealth, nationality... rather than on the content of the person's character.

  • @vaticinus Dude, I am white and my wife is black. On FOX news, the news anchor Harris Faulkner is black and her husband is white - both conservatives. Since we don't fit into your belief system, how do you explain us? Are we ignorant, or are YOU ignorant? Conservatives and liberals both have idiots. Get a life.

  • @steverrobertson Insulting me is not helping your case. Did you read my definition of conservatism above? Take your time and read it again and then tell us which group(s) you identify with and which group(s) you discriminate against. Lets make it a multiple choice.

    1. The poor

    2. Other nationalities

    3. Gays

    4. Women

    5. The disabled

    6. All of the above

If you are still struggling to understand me let me know and i will explain again. P.S. "(s)" following a word means singular or plural.

  • @vaticinus The video is about interracial couples - not your laundry list. I read your post again. It at least infers that conservatives are against interracial relationships. Defend your position about this! If you want to argue about your laundry list, post a video those items, send it to me, and I'm game. But at least stay on the interracial topic! You didn't even have interracial in your list which is the topic here. Do I REALLY have to deal with ANOTHER big mouth/no brain?

  • @steverrobertson Again, insults aren't helping your case. I left racism out of the list because you've stated that you are not a racist. I also left religious intolerance out because one cant have a logical argument about faith. But what they all have in common which once again you have failed to see is intolerance. Intolerance and bigotry are at the heart of conservatism and that "laundry list" are its usual victims. As a liberal i judge each individual based on the content of their character.

  • Marriage is about love it is not about hate. Love will always overcome hate in the long run.

  • This country's racist past is both alarming and shameful.

  • We make progress with every generation, but oh my, what a slow way to make progress. Thanks to courageous people like Mr. & Mrs. Loving, occasionally progress takes a big step.

  • The state of Virginia was known as "passing capital of America" before they married. There were many interracial relationships in the state, white men and black women having children together in concentual and forced relationships,. White men knew they did not have to marry or support the children from those unions so the practice went on until the Loving decision over turned the laws

  • @terrinyc29 hmmmmmm....so you're saying that the only reason a white man was with a black woman was so he wouldn't have to support her or the kids? Was Richard Loving the first man to REALLY love a black woman? Or are you saying that there were some men who did really love them, in which case you're not really even saying anything at all, because I see black men dissing both white and black women today as well as white men. Everything is still the same. WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?

  • @steverrobertson I have no idea if Mr. Loving was the first to support a Black woman and his children with her, I doubt he was...What I do know he was the One to litteraly buck the system and legitimize in the leagal sense his children and his relationship. I know there were other similar couples generally they moved out of the south. What's love if you don't stand up for your wife and kids, it's about standing up to Society and the system. What does Black men have to with this?

  • they made a movie call"Mr. and ms. Loving" ots a great movie

  • Thank goodness for freedom and rights! Thank goodness for those who fight for it!

It is none of our governments business or anyone elses who any of us love or marry.

  • You know what I love about the Lovings? They weren't activists or exceptional people. They were a normal couple who just wanted to enjoy marriage and raise kids. It is good to laud heros who strove to be heroic (MLK or Rosa Parks), but these people showed the brutal stupidity of these laws - all they wanted to do was live and raise children together, and the law made an issue of it. Some dumb ass "law abiding" judge with warped ideas about race could throw them out of the state. Messed up.

  • @thejelan. In Africa a man can have multiple wives

  • It's videos like these that make me realize how "young" the human race really is. This was just 50 years ago... and we're only now getting gay rights. It's baffling how long it's taken, and how slowly progress is happening.

  • how surprising that its jews that helped them... not.

  • She's cute!

  • @IwontConform Shut the fuck up. Ppl. like you have no place in this world using up air. If one wants to 'preserve their race' then more power to them, but the law shouldn't prevent consenting adults from doing so if that is their choice. Your argument is full of shit. The races have mixed all through history. Here's a simple fact for you: animals can't breed with humans as we're diff. species. Humans of ALL races can produce offspring which shows it's as nature intended or it couldn't happen!

  • @IwontConform jerk... here in america we as americans have the right to love anyone.. the government cannont tell us who to love ... that includes tea partys and the reliogus nuts

  • So timely and still relevant. One of the most memorable things I've seen on youtube. Thank you.

  • Comment removed

  • I can't stand it when people compare interracial marriage with gay marriage.

The only thing that's the same is the fact that it was illegal in this country.

Mixing of races have going on for 1000's of years. different ethnic groups wouldn't exist if it was for interracial mixing. That's why the world is so colorful. so people can have mixed babies, why shouldn't they beable to get married? Gay marriage is more of a financial thing for couples. That's all a piece of paper can do in this country

  • @thejelan

    You're an idiot.

  • @beeblmeyer Thanks are you gay? What is it that makes me an idiot? Lol

  • I cannot believe this happened so recently!!!

  • @destinay4lyf gays have been around since the old testiment (bible) gay movement isnt new....there was a city called sadom and gamora that was destroyed by angels becausr the city was so sinful just to let know everything is in a cycle nothing is new

  • @nay32990

Please attain literacy before commenting on something you know nothing about.

  • @nay32990 Except for it being written in the Bible where is any evidence that Sodom and Gamorra actually existed? Or that Angels destroyed it? Also why was Lot offering his daughters to the men of the city and latering getting drunk and having children by them does that sound righteous? Why didn't the angels look for the righteous people like they were suppose to? Where is this pillar of salt and what evidence is there that it was ever Lot's wife?

  • What's odd and extremely confusing about this country is that both the North and South are made up of patches of areas where the people are either very accepting and peaceful and other places where there is tension or open hate between ethnic groups. It's far more complicated than everybody, especially foreigners, want to claim it is and the way the liars in the media show things to be.

  • Thank you Mr. & Mrs. Loving...from the bottom of my heart

  • Has anybody ever noticed that Richard loving kinda looks like porn actor Rod Fontana? Coincidently, both are bald and are from the south. But Fontana had his share of black women before he married that French woman.

  • Who are the 2 that Dislike this? (SMH)

  • this video helps me out a lot! I am doing a project on this case for my history class!

  • Stuff like this makes me so mad. What so, just because she's black she can't marry him? What the hell? That's like getting into someone's face and saying 'You can't love her because she's different.' Is it just me or is the real world a lot like high school?

  • This issue isn't just about having a boyfriend or girlfriend of the opposite sex, and being in 'love' with them, it was about MARRIAGE and forming FAMILIES with children. It's sad that people today would take it so lightly and not even try to marry the partner they have the child by. The western culture could take just so many years of oow childbearing before the culture crumbles.

  • I consider Mr and Mrs Loving my heroes. We've come such a long way since then, and we still have a long way to go, but things have definately gotten better. It's funny because where I live, interracial dating/marriage is so common, it's not even really a big deal (especially in the high schools and colleges) When it comes to race, I think we younger generations are way past that X-)

  • I thank the person so much for posting this video... If it wasn't for this couple to take action upon this matter, who knows who would have taken action later on in life

  • Fantastic post.

  • my boyfriend is Russian and i am Mullato WOOP WOOP!! :D

  • thank you for posting

  • People should be allowed to marry whomever they want, including gays, as long as its two consenting adults. Every American has the right to the pursuit of happiness. I don't think heterosexuals have the right to tell homosexuals they cant marry. Where is it in the constitution that homosexuals are the last word and authority over the rest of the nation? I'm not gay, but I can clearly see the parallels in the Loving case to the case for Gay Marriage.

  • Well, I don't! Race is a biological fact of life whereas man has been changing its "sexual orientation" for thousands of years. Don't misunderstand. I'm in no way saying that "gays" or bi-sexuals or whoever should have less rights than me or my telling them who or what they can "love". My concern is about essentially defining out of existence an institution that has stood the test of time for thousands of ;years.

  • A lot of people feel like you do. They dont think two grown people have the right to marry each other & they will come out in droves to make sure it doesnt happen. They will come in anger & scream expletives because two grown people want to get married. Two grown people who just happen to be the same sex. These same people dont care that people of opposite sex can marry without fear for their lives and without tons of strangers picketting and damning them to hell. We should all have that right.

  • @WhereYaBoss Marriage is between a man and a woman. And it should stay this way. If two men or women want to join each other, let it be a civil union. You cannot change what marriage is. Do u take this man? Do u take this woman? No parallels here. The Lovings case was based on race not sex.

  • @missVeemack, That's what you've been brainwashed into believing. A heterosexual wrote those words. I just happened to be attracted to the opposite sex. When I get married I'm marrying a man. But if one of our children comes out gay and wants to get married I want him and her to be able to do so before God and their loved ones. I won't let you take that from my child all because you have hate in your heart put there by years of brainwashing. Marriage is love between two consenting adults, period

  • @WhereYaBoss lol, what can a man offer to another man? You are being silly, you can't marry a man. I don't care what anyone says but there is nothing scientifically proven about a gay man or women's brain. it just doesn't exist. The Lovings is another case. It is a MAN trying to and accomplishing his right to marry a WOMAN! get over yourself....

  • @Destinay4lyf LOL. You sound just like those people back in 1966-67 who didn't want the Lovings to get married. What's it to you anyway? If you're not gay, what does it have to do with you? Get over yourself. You don't have don't have lock on love.

  • @WhereYaBoss LOL, no the difference between me and those people is that i believe that love is blind in terms of race, culture, religion etc... but not gender.

  • @Destinay4lyf LOL, love is love.

  • @WhereYaBoss Thats what this society has brainwashed you with...

  • @Destinay4lyf LOL, no you sound brainwashed. Somewhere someplace right now a man is loving another man and what the hell does that have to do with you? The stars are still in the sky. Your hatefulass is still hating and the sun will rise tomorrow.

  • @WhereYaBoss How do I sound brain washed... Being gay never existed back in the days... This whole movement of people loving people of the same gender has just been introduced. I guess your right the sun will rise tomorrow and the starts will still be in the sky but their is a guaranteed admission pass in Hell for these people that go against Nature. That'll never change.

  • @Destinay4lyf A lot of women were married to gay men back in the so called 'days'. And some women today are presently sleeping with gay men. I got a feeling you'd rather end up married to a gay men then see two gay men marry each other. I, however, don't want to end up married to a gay man so I much rather see them get their rights to marry so that they can live out in the open instead of leading a secret life. You can go on pretending they don't exist if you want.....lol

  • @WhereYaBoss Yeah, I'll pretend they don't exist but when I see a gay couple in action I will surely speak my mind.

  • @Destinay4lyf Oh, Yes, you are much like the KKK people the Lovings had to deal with. There they were minding their own businesses and people who have nothing to do with their lives intervened. To do what? To be evil, hateful, just because they didn't agree with their love. Get over yourself, ma. Picture someone cursing you out because of who you fall in love with. Picture someone damning you to hell because you're in LOVE. God, she is filled with hate. Only you can judge. Show her a sign.

  • @WhereYaBoss I don't think anyone will have a problem with who I fall in love with because A) It will be a MAN and B) His race will not matter thanks to the Lovings. "Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me" Let them be hateful or damn me to hell. And btw, The KKK Did more than speaking their minds... I am more like Gandhi, peacefully protesting against HOMOSEXUALS. My view will never be changed. I rest my case!

  • @Destinay4lyf You so funny. People still hate interracial couples, honey. Nothings changed except the law.

  • @Destinay4lyf Your such a bigot.

  • @Destinay4lyf You sound like a white nationalist, trying to come up with some excuse for being racist while denying that they're racist. Comparing your "silent protest" to other peaceful people (and ironically, Gandhi was a homophobe as well) and ignoring the hypocritical manner of your beliefs.

  • @Destinay4lyf Homosexual relationships can be traced all the way back to ancient African civilizations, in fact, as a very natural part of their culture. Anti-homosexual policies are a construct of a religious morality that didn't exist until colonialists "settled" in Africa and told the native tribes what to believe. It's very sad to see that colonialist belief systems are still as strong in the people they've dominated as they ever were.

  • @Destinay4lyf Dear, brainwashing on a national level typically comes from people in power. White people had convinced society for the longest time that slavery, then segregation was "GOOD" for people of color. Straight people enjoy the same majority status as whites because of their position in society. What you're saying is similar to making the assertion that "blacks brainwashed everyone into thinking slavery and segregation is bad." It's just the majority making excuses for feeling displaced.

  • I saw the movie about this story some years ago. Everyone should see it, and know about their experience.

    Thanks for posting.

  • the whole country should know about this -- all young children should learn about this history...thank God the Supreme Court did the right thing

  • wow it's amazing it would be against the law for hubby and I to be married not that long ago

  • thanks 4 putting this up fav it :)

  • so sad that this is 1967, I mean it's like yesterday. They were only one generation apart from me. It always amazes me just how much hatred and ignorance still posses to this day.

  • she is beautiful.

  • she's so pretty

  • omg i mean wtf i wish sum1 would do sumthin lyke dat 2 me i would act a damn fool i have lots of white friends!

  • Wow! That's amazing! Love will always equal love!

  • What is love, exactly? I'm hearing that word used more these days but nobody ever goes into what they mean by that word.

  • Wow, abc's been around for some time.

To the Lovings, I will dedicated June 12th in honor of thier love! I mean, I know the southern states were in the roots of racism, but Virginia? Their family was a beautiful family! And thanks to them we have the ability to love/marry who we love! Loving! Even thier names fit. :) God grew them up together and everything. This reminds me of my friend. He is my everything. This video completely encouraged! All ppl should watch this!

  • Virginia was and i think still considered a southern state. They were part of the Confederate South... back in the 1860s

  • @mur52691 wow. So Virginia.....was....wow. I wonder if Virginia celebrates Loving Day annually...like locally.

  • as far as i'm concered they don't. for some time i live in nothern virginia they didn't.

  • @mur52691...Well that's alright I guess. Virginia doesnt have to celebrate it. But I sure will. mhm.

  • heartbreaking

  • That is sooo sad how he died not long after their marriage became legal......

  • God Bless Peace☮

  • How did you at your young age find this case?

Incredible story and this is lawyers doing what they do best taking on such worthy case. Not many lawyers I am sure at the time would have taken on this controversial case.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Gail Barsky

  • wow....

  • And there are still people who are against IR-marriage/dating. UNBELIEVABLE

  • damn, that's pretty DEEP !

  • Watching this ABC news segment made me feel like I was in another era, yet being in modern times. Thank you for posting it. Many of us were not alive during these times and don't realize the effects on real people by the ridiculous and stupid laws that our country spent money on upholding. Thank goodness those days are over and for many the battle still continues.

  • America, sometimes, on history, was worst than nazi Germany. How can you put on jail two persons that loved each other? On my channel I have a webcast about this case. I put here on video response.

  • I am very proud of the Loving for fighting for their right to love and be married to each other

  • amazing story ! I had never even heard of this before, but I do know that my great grandma who was Lakota had to lie and say she was 'white' in order to marry my grandpa who is white. I didn't know they would have arrested them back then too though !

  • such inspiration ! they have paved the way!

  • Great story, I will remember the Loving's Family forever.

  • its amazing that in my lifetime such a terrible thing could happen...the whole world needs to hear this story...i have already made a vid about this beautiful and couragous couple....i was so upset when i found out that richard was killed at the age of 41 by a drunk driver.......i hope the lesson is taught in schools around the world and this vid included in the everyday lessons...to prove that ordinary people can change the world....all my love to all the lovings...tony flanagan

  • hard to imagine that it was not too long ago. Thks for the video lady.

    take care

    in his grace and mercy

    be blessed

  • Great video. :-) Thanks so much for sharing this with us.

It's so hard to believe that it was once such a crime to be in love with someone of another color that you could be literally dragged out of your bed and arrested for it like this couple was.

I'm so glad that Richard and Mildred loving didn't back down. Due to them standing up for their right to love, today I can be with the man I love, too. :) I couldn't imagine life without him...wouldn't want to.

  • thanks for uploading this! I've never seen this footage this is great!

And thank you Mr. and Mrs. Loving for fighting for the right to love who you want!
