Funny how Americans all rate issues like the Economy, Health Care, the War in the Middle East, the Environment, and many other things as top priorities to focus on.
Rarely do I ever see Americans concerned about Government corruption.
It's sad. Either American's have turned a blind eye to corrupt politicians or have simply told themselves that politicians are corrupt and nothing can be done.
Well, that does seem to be the case, but some people are noticing, like the tea parties. However, you are right. The moment that the American people wake up and elect intelligent people not owned by corporations then we would be much better off in my opinion.
@ArswawWorldofWarcraf Which will not happen so long as Fox news is brainwashing the masses into voting for corrupt dumbasses with an R next to their names.
No let us not judge individuals from a certain crowd of people without getting to know them. Even so, if by some strange miracle, the news stations tell everyone to vote independent, that would work.
Too bad that kind of stuff only happens in our imaginations.
you are either so misguided and misinformed that your comment is pathetic and utterly irrelevant or, you are dumb as a box of rocks, fox news is not an enemy, ignorance, political preference, complacency, and a non-exsistant factual mainstream media are the causes for the conflict in america. dont believe it? instead of posting clearly idiotic statements, spend a little time researching the topics you clearly know so little about.
@suaveone101 Fox news actively lies to the public and uses baseless information to fear monger the public blasting its propoganda onto the airwaves. Anybody who listens to them doesn't even know what the hell the Health care bill or the stimulus package is. I never said other mainstream news networks didn't put their own spin on the news but Fox flat out lies to your face.
Cenk said it and many others said it including myself. We were completely right about this stupid drama all along. What a sell out to the insurance industry. Fuck Baucus Chaffee Snowe Cohen Ensign, and the rest. All these god damn bastards should be executed in a public square for treason.
excercise rights given by constitution, stand up to tryanny, imperialism, greed, and apathy of the u.s. government, inform the masses, knowledge is the key, the common people outnumber the greedy bastards that run the show, deception and the spread of ignorance is their only weapon
agree w/ u m19921992. If they think healthcare is expensive now just wait til it's free. Over half of the people in America including illegal immigrants that are here ILLEGALLY breaking the law DO NOT PAY TAXES. We're screwed unless we vote conservative in Nov 2010
i agree with your post with the exception of your solution, in my humble opinion, the solution lies in principles, morality, dignity, and responsibility, the people we as a people elect must be honorable in their personal and public lives and their interest must be in the country and the people in it in order for the U.S. to revive itself from the corruption and greed we have come to be known for. i hope for our sake the people will wake up and realize that freedom is really not free.
I will never pay a single dime of my hard earned money to the private health care industry ... they turned there backs on me all my life because I have a pre existing condition and I'll be dead before they see 1 stinking dime of my money .... I WILL NOT BE FORCED TO BUY A POLICY .. that is outrages and anyone in congress who supports that is a traitor to our freedom of choice... GIVE ME A CHOICE WITH A PUBLIC OPTION... that's what I want....
Max Baucus, the senator from Montana, for some reason is in charge of writing the healthcare bill.
He is the biggest recipient of insurance lobbyist money. His bill eliminates the public option, which would have given you the right to choose. Instead, his bill will FORCE you, and all Americans, to buy private insurance. That's right; it's right there in his bill. Max Baucus sold you out, for money.
The American system is proving to be very sad.... we cant trust our leaders to look our for our best interest..... they just look out for there own... it's simply disgusting... I"m ashamed of my country and it's leaders...
What does everyone think of the heath care plan? I plan to post the responses in a Blog (Nothing that you write will be changed in anyway) so if you respond to this, than you are allowing me to post this on a Blog, unless you specifically say 'do not post this' in your comment. I will post everything I get. If you want a link to the Blog so you can see it, send me a Private Message and I will send you a link. Please write if your for or against it before you say why. Thank you.
Why does Cenk give a damn about hte republicans? The Dems have enough votes, no republican is needed. But Cenk doesnt want to talk about the blue dogs...so Cenk blames the republicans. HAHAHAHAHA
Apparently the USA spends twice the GDP on health care than the UK but has a lower life expectancy. I think you should get some universal care, at least a little.
@jaybullen i think reform is needed, having said that i dont think the government has any need to be in it unless the government agrees to shrink..alot..not going to happen..and the special interest would bow out..also not going to happen..and if people were allowed to buy across state lines and tort reform were on the table, but the prob is gov. officials arent going to do any of this unless they are forced so our only option is to remember who voted for what and make the pay in nov.
My father is a chiropractor, and every time he treates somebody with Medicare/Medicade he gets paid 1/8 of what he does from a patient with normal health insurance.
AP - Bowing to Republican pressure and an uneasy public, President Barack Obama's administration signaled Sunday it is ready to abandon the idea of giving Americans the option of government-run insurance as part of a new health care system.
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that government alternative to private health insurance is "not the essential element" of the administration's health care overhaul. The White House would be open to co-ops, she said, a sign that Democrats want a compromise so they can declare a victory.
I see a lot of complainers which is unfortunate because we know what that means. A lot of gum flapping and no action. No one attending meetings, writing letters, counter acting the idiots who don't want "the government touching their medicare". Rational people need to make their voices heard, even something as little as countering anyone who throws out misleading information or flat out lies in a casual conversation. Do your part and I'll do mine.
Its not a freebie if its paid for by taxes - most of us after all do pay taxes. Some things are private goods and should be paid for by individuals. Some things are Public Goods - a clean environment, well-policed cities, emergency services, regulators, hospitals etc - so they should be funded publicly, collectively. Thats what government is for. If you think free provision of services leads to dictatorship, look at the Scandinavian countries, some of the healthiest, best places to live on Earth
We must have a single payer health care system only. We can't afford anything else. The Republicans and or O'bama plan, is just more of the same. Plenty of profit for the greedy pharmaceuticals and the health care companies. We should emulate the Veterans Administration. Our own national, 1 payer system, that kind of works.
Hey, while you're at it, could you add a provision where all sick people have to mail their paychecks directly to the insurance companies? While you're in the business of screwing people, why not go full out?
HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA. You're joking right? Look at medicare, medicade and social security, they're all BROKE! And enough of this "save or create" crap. How exactly do you measure a saved job? You can't! Its all double-speak bull crap!
Employer mandate? Screw that! Let the people pay for their own healthcare. If you want to make a good law, then make one that bans employers from providing prepaid healthcare for their employees. Paul Krudmann is an idiot. He was even awarded a prize from an ultra liberal group. He has a bias opinion.
But if you want the government taking care of you, then I have some ideas.
I have an idea. I can't get auto insurance because I average 2 accidents a month, so let's have universal auto insurance. In that way I will have auto insurance. Also, let's make it cover car washes and detailing, for after all, am I not entitled to a clean car like the rich people? And of course it should also cover general maintenance, because a maintained car is a safe car. But I do wonder if the auto shops will raise their rates sense the consumers will be out of the loop.
I have another idea; it's called universal rent/mortgage care. Some people have a real hard time paying their rent or mortgage. So the solution is for the government to pay them for us. They will use tax money from us to do it. They will of course have to instruct you in "choosing" your home. It will have to be a home that is right for your family size and your employment location. The government regulating where you live is such a small price to pay for rent/mortgage security. Is it not?
Then we can all assume that you will not be using Medicare or Social Security? Do you have kids? My husband & I have 4 kids, we can't afford health insurance, but make too much to get Medicaid. What planet do you live on? You are a spoon-fed idiot.
I dont have health insurance but I dont want this plan! I have been paying into Social Security for 9 years and will be until retirement and I wont see a dime of it. Why?? Because the Government runs it!! By the way the Democrats made paying into Social Security mandatory when previously it was voluntary.
i bet that u r just a selfish dipshit that dosent even relize that if there is a publica healthcare option then the rates for u will also drop instead u rather have so many other people suffer even if u r suffering caz u like to c people suffer instead of helping out and y it will help u out is caz u have to pay for the people who get sick anyways so instead of it being $100 just for some meds it has to be taken care of when they r in the hospital for weeks and it ends up being $1000s that u pay
ya i should try to type when im tired and pissed off but what i was basically trying to say is that if there is a public healthcare system then the rates for every1 would go down so even if some1 only cares bout money they should still want the universal heathcare caz they will get more money that way
Turk is actually good, I get the oppisite view from him the best...he at least makes the most sense. Of course his philosophy is all wrong, the liberal philosophy will destroy the nation from within, but he is fun to get the other perspective.
Healthcare is one of those area's where the easiest way for a corporation to make a profit is to prey on their customers. We are offered 'choice' in our privatized healthcare system, but the real choice belongs to the insurer, who now has the choice of dropping your coverage the moment you actually get sick. As long as you're well, he'll let you buy 'coverage'. Nationalized healthcare reduces your choices but, more importantly, reduces THEIRS, mandating coverage whether you're well or sick.
Reuters: U.S. Treas sold $39 billion in five-year debt Wednesday in an auction that drew poor demand, raising worries over the cost of financing the govt burgeoning budget deficit.
The second lackluster showing in as many days, convincing analysts that the stellar results of debt auctions just a few weeks ago were a fluke and that Thurs $28 billion seven-year offering could suffer a similar fate.
Why worry about healtcare, the US economy is ready to collapse. Without money no healthcare
If you want free health care, emigrate to Canada, France, or England. Because health care is never going to be free in the US. Why, because health care in the US is BIG money for the health care industry and they own enough senators and congressmen that it will NEVER pass.
Don't worry, Big Pharma will get a huge big contract form Uncle Sam(with money we borrow from the Private Federal reserve and China) worth billions of dollars, if not tens of billions. Big Drug companies support the "public option".
the mainstream media has always failed us they either dont report certain facts or else they flat out lie about others . for the truth you have to go straight to the internet and sites such as this to hear the truth . hopefullythe government wont get their pawson it
Oh my god... senators who oppose health care reform being given campaign contributions from the Health Insurance industry? Why, with $1.5 million being spent daily to defeat reform and 4 health insurance lobbyists per every congressmen, who would have known?
Just one question, watch Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, New York Times, etc. and tell me whether they mention the contributions these congressmen get and from who. They won't mention it ONCE. Our media has failed us UTTERLY.
"Blue Dog Democrat" is a euphemism for Republican.
Let me guess, they are going to explain their health care plan by leaving blue paw prints on different "clues" that we have to put together and decode in our "thinking chairs."
& million spending on ad scary ads that make no sense why not use the million to save a couple folks life to get treatment to live for those where insurance said there life isn't worth money or the family who has no insurance & deciding if a family members treatment for cancer is more important then feeding each family member please be for people I pray rupub not the insurance co no more vote no not caring for us care only for you or for making Obama look bad that's sad when people are in need
Remember that Obama was by far the better presidential candidate. Are we ever screwed. Stay asleep because waking up is no fun at all. Keep smiling, the boss loves idiots.
I pray every night that the republicans will care for the people instead of insurance company's who keep adding more to cost & then saying no to a child with a 60% chance to live if she has a treatment saying 60% isn't good enough allowing her to die are insurance co. in your pockets sounds it when repubs say Lewin group reported this lewin says that Lewin group is united health care an insurance company who was taken to court & had to pay over 400 million to people they changed paper work on!
If America lets Obama socialize medicine where will all the Canadians go?
Can you believe Omoron stated today that we can enjoy our healthcare in our golden days. Have you read HR3200 pgs. 425-430? Its Soylent Green, so much for those Golden days.
But when he calls them corporatist, he talking about them being in the pockets of specifically the health care industry, who are in fact directly funding their campaigns and providing them with other sorts of financial benefits. So wouldn't other corporations, especially small businesses, be less important to them?
What types of employers would be adversely affected by mandates? I'm assuming small businesses, right? So wouldn't the ridding of mandates have been a move by the so called corporatist dems and repubs to protect the little guy? Employer mandates would be the health care industry's dream come true if there was no public option to go along with it. Why would "health care industry puppets" ever vote it down? I guess you could say a true corporatist wouldn't want any sort of burden on corporations?
free-market capitalism is basically a way for large companies to steal money from everyone and everything they can get their hands on. now it might help smaller companies in certain ways, but most of the benefits they do not get, which big corporations use over and over to screw everyone else, ultimately leading to small business losing out in the long run. without regulation and laws that can try to keep conflicts of interest out of politics, you have what we have now, an out-of-control system.
BarackObamaLovesGoldmanSachs-they donated one million to barrys' campaign and now they expect payback. change? HA! it's the "bush'n'barry" show-from paulson to geithner-like trading in hitler for stalin-cap and trade is the new way for them to tax us out of our homes. . . the banksters in the "federal" reserve cartel, including goldman sachs have taken over the government.

Bush succeeded, which is why we failed, if Obama's policies of two ilegal foreign wars, bailouts to banks, increased powers to the federal reserve, socialist rationed healthcare, increased welfare and warfare state and amnesty plans succeed America will fail. America's livelihood is dependent on this man failing and being ousted.
Well, "racism" would explain the "white pride" comment on his page from a week ago. But just like you're the only one I see mentioning racism here, you're the only one I see using the terms "reason" and "sense" in relation to him. Nice touch trying to stereotype, but it fails when you stereotype within the same statement. But what else can we expect from someone who has fox news in their favorites?
No, Bush didn't succeed as president. He crapped all over that office. Our two illegal foreign wars and the other issues except healthcare were already in motion because of Bush before Obama took the hot seat. Any jackass elected would have to make similar desperate choices. And "socialist" healthcare? You mean just like our police and fire departments? Get real. Or better yet, you're from Texas. So secede already, and take Bush's problems with you while you're at it..
No he succeeded in is Agenda, it was just a failure for this country. Just so you know, Obama is continuing and upping the troops in those illegal wars, so I am astonished a supposed peacenick like you would support him. Socialism equals public ownership of the means of production and wealth. The police aren't a means of production and aren't wealth. If you are so intent on creating a cruddy egalitarian society move to Canada and wait hours for medical care.
I already knew that about Obama. I knew when I voted for him he would do that. On what basis would you ever suppose I was a "peacenik"? Remember when you were little and your teacher said: "When you assume you make an "ass" out of "u" and "me"? Apparently not. I'd fight in a war if I thought it was for a good enough cause, and these aren't it. And if that astonished you, wait until you figure out that the police are the front end of the prison system that tax payers are being billed for.
Oh, egalitarian? You mean "equal political, economic, social, and civil rights for all people"? You think equal rights are "cruddy", hmm? Then get the fuck out of my country, you bigot. I worked in US healthcare for years. Even waiting hours is better than what we have now in the US. Ever seen someone die from lack of medical treatment because they weren't rich enough? I have. Get off my lawn, Tex, before you secede and take my flowerbeds with you.
Yes, I think egalitarianism is cruddy. America was founded as a Federal Republic and meritocracy. Not a tyrannical egalitarian democracy. I don't know what you have now, but the fact, is, no one has to wait for hours and if your an illegal you are milking the system at the state level for free. At my local public hospital, several homeless people are treated and often put in front of insurance holding patients, and those people get it for free.
I don't know where you go, but I've been to 4 ERs in this town (not always for myself, obviously), and pretty much everyone I saw in there INCLUDING ONE GUNSHOT WOUND VICTIM waited at least 4 hours, sometimes more than 6...poor or otherwise. You know who got in before the rest of us? People who knew the staff. That has nothing to do with immigration status, insurance, ideology or severity of injury.
Well guess what? A meritocracy is fine when it works, but it hasn't been working that way in quite a long time. You should go look up what tyranny means before you try to attach it to concepts you don't like, kid. And don't tell me people don't wait hours in hospitals now when I've been the guy paid to make excuses to patients on why their waiting so long for a simple procedure. What worthless asshole aside from you is going to ask a patient: "So do you have a house? No? Sorry, can't treat you."
"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote."
Ben Franklin
I never said people don't wait, especially in Urban areas with a lot of illegals, but I think waiting hours and hours is a pandemic in places like Canada(I know from people who live there).
The debate on health care has stooped to the same pitiful level that the 2008 election was about: conservatives talking about how Obama will raise taxes. This was a falsehood since Obama was only going to raise taxes on rich people. The health care proposal says that you can keep your current private plan, but conservatives still complain that the government will take that plan away. You can't win with these people.
"Shocking Hypocrisy Audio Found Obama didn't like it when Bush Rushed Through Legislation"
radio interview with Randi Rhodes in 2004. like page 425 of the obamacare bill that says a government stooge will decide what medical treatment my 88 year old Mom can get.
OBAMA WANTS TO KILL OUR MOMMAS
(sung to Frank Zappa and the Mothers' of Invention -"My Guitar Wants to Kill your Momma")
How can conservatives be pro-life, and against health care for all?
The words of the immortal George Carlin; "These conservatives are all the same, they'll do anything for the unborn, but once your born you're on your own. ... If your pre-born your fine, if your pre-school, your fucked. Conservatives don't give a shit about you until you reach military age." Which if your in the military you get free health care.
"Then they think you are just fine, just what they've been looking for. Conservatives want live babies, so they can raise them to be dead soldiers. These people aren't pro life they are killing doctors!" The health care available in the military would be perfect if they did not have unqualified enlisted people doing the job of a licensed nurse or doc. Then maybe people with real problems would not be turned away because they were "malingering". "Eat an aspirin and take your ass back to work."
Why would private corporate insurance providers NOT want an Employer Mandate? Wouldn't this force companies to buy private insurance, thus giving them more sales?
I understand why a company wouldn't want an Employer Mandate, since it would increase costs to the company. They could stop offering health insurance as a way to save A LOT of money.
But why would private insurance providers be against that? It's easy sales for them.
They did NOT take out the individual mandate. which puts the respons. on the individual to buy their own. (maybe mandated or subsidized).
The private companies won't lose that many customers, they will come to them for insurance and forgo the "group discount" that is given to larger companies.
Let's say you work for "x". And "x" provides insurance to 5k empl. by shear size, they got buying power. If "X" dumps health ins. that 5k now have to buy individual policies and a much higher rate.
THANK GOD there are networks suck as TYT that are giving people who really want to learn the TRUTH vital information...I cant believe how backwards and greedy America's coorperations are...(smh)
I would rather have Obama veto their version then have him sign any at all.
These Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats have to stop thinking about themselves, and their controllers (health care, insurance companies, ect), and think about what is right for the American people.
You can't figure out why the media won't call the politicians out for being corporatist shills? Really? That isn't difficult. These same corporations that are benefiting from the bill that the shills wrote are also advertisers and sponsors of the corporate media. If the media were to expose these lies the drug companies would threaten to take their advertising dollars elsewhere. Its about the money lebowski.
does this mean obamas healthcare has been defeated? i sure hope it dies soon so freedom can return to the health care industry i dont want the government putting some dmv official in charge of the american health care system
First it was somkers now its They want to impose an excise or sales tax on fattening foods. This will lower consumption of those foods, generate revenues used to extend health insurance coverage to the uninsured and under-insured, and fund campaigns making healthy foods more widely available to, say, low-income Americans and to encourage exercise and healthy eating habits.
Republicans love screwing the country over. Bush was a master of it, but the GOP is pulling together so that they can equal his destruction of the country.
For a mere billion dollars the health care industry could pay 1000 "deciders" a million dollars each. If it's a huge profit thing maybe they could throw 50 or 100 billion at it and recoup a trillion. Pretty profitiable investment, i would say. Does anyone keep track of the numbers? How could they do it and make it work. They could pay off 1000 people $50 million to $100 million
the key to a plan working has to be that all sides can go back to their people and say- here's what we go. Liberals have to have some form of oniversal health care, cons need freedom to have their own plan, and the middle ground need their own doctor, and their social conscious soothed, knowing that all Americans will receive some form of medical care.
few basic principles of health care: 1. we are going to spend more than most countries because we like our options, 2. there has to be a certain minimum level of health care for all citizens and 3. what's not broke, don't try and fix, for those who like their plans, like their doctors, they should be inconvenienced as little as possible. somehow, we can get a plan that incoporates all 3 prinicples- the extremists need to be ignored.
Obama needs to cut the "bipartisan" bs. Who gives a fuck about what the republicunts want. If they gave a shit about reforming healthcare they would of done it under bush!! but no al they care about was spedning money on an illegal war with a country that had nothing to do with 9/11. Obama needs to get hose blue dogs in line and pass the damn bil with the public option!!!
Obama loves to be considered as a "bi-partisian" leader. But who is he serving when he "reaches out" to the Conservatives? Well, he is helping only the corporate Inusrance "providers." And why does he never reach out to the Dems who are progressive, if he wants all points of view?
He says he will veto any bill without any public option. I hope he does, but am not holding my breath. I look at Geithner, Bernanke and his Monsanto appointees, and I know we are screwn.
Remember, Hillary Clinton took almost a MILLION to shut the fuck up about National Healthcare? Never trust a politician!!! I hope Jesse Ventura runs in 2012!
No Jesse is one of them too. He will have the wrestling and surfboard lobbyists funding his campaign. With tailored suits made by quicksilver, and keanu reeves and randy savage as celebrity spokesmen.
Requiring universal health insurance is NOT the same thing as providing universal health care. Anybody who has been denied medical treatment because of insurance company decisions overriding doctors know this.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Big Government Healthcare is all we need...yup. Americans simply need a pro/con to this. The cons certainly outweigh the pros. EMPLOYER MANDATE. More like employer OBLIGATION. Since when did employers owe it's employees healthcare?
3:06 - "We wanna shift the cost on to the American people" (say the corporations who don't want to pay the employer mandate).
All of the money taken in by corporations comes from the American people. Charging more for goods and services to pay for the "mandate" (or even to pay the penalty) shifts the cost on to the American people. People who buy things are the source of Corporate dollars.
The Republicans were running ads against healthcare reform and using FUD which had nothing to do with the legislation which the American Medical Association and the American Nurses Association were supporting.
total government run health care system is what Britain has. The legislation in Congress is nothing like that. That's why both the American Medical Association and the American Nurses Association were endorsing the House legislation which included a public option.
A total government run health care system will screw you more than a bipartisan system or even the system we have now. Secondly the administration DOES NOT need republicans in congress to make this pass. They run both houses. A number of dems are actually READING the bill (unlike the failed stimulus) and becoming questionable. The far-left dems are just blaming republicans so that if it doesn't pass republicans can take all the blame.
Did you know that most congressmen did not read the patriot act the bush tax cuts or the pharmicutical bill. Its funny I work in New Bern Nc and there is an article in the paper today "SUN JOURNAL"(conservative publication)about the failed stimulus is going to be putting 20 million into the economy in just this city.Your ideoligy is transparent when you use the billo phrase FARLEFT.Everything not approved by fox is far left.If we dont get reform and prices keep going up35%a yr I will blm replicns
People, we should unite to fight, any other way does not work anymore, drastic measures must be taken , come to my page and send me a message if you agree. if there are enough people then we could start a true movement that these so called leaders will have to listen wether they like it or not.
It's not unlike Cheney destroying the WTC and then taking the country to war for profit. They have so much rich support they can play it like "it needs to be played". Pretty soon, if they get their way on everything they will be "harvesting" illnesses and "planting the seeds" as well. The big game is to be able to get away with it. It's just become an acceptable or legal crime mixed in with a "legitimate system. It is like mixing lies with truth for a scamming effect.
Health care is so big that they can simply make a few in the power structure (congress) rich and then get their way. We need an entirely different "not for mega profits system" that cannot go to congress to get more mega riches. What they need is a law to stop corporate medical scamming, maybe severe punishment for the leaders. Round them up and give them to Cesar Milan for re-socialization training.
I am losing faith that any sort of viable health care reform is going to pass under this administration. Obama hasn't played the game aggressively enough. He really needs to expose these people, irrespective of whether they have little d's next to their names or not. Maybe he should have hired Cenk as his Whitehouse spokesmen.
well, WH officials say the fight has only just begun. Losing faith will only guarantee you lose it all. Instead of losing faith, how about joining the fight somehow. Spread the word to convince ppl to accept HC reform, call your politicians and make the right threats. Raise money, make ads, etc.
that method does not work anymore with these corporate people and we need more drastic measures. a riot in the right place can and will make the difference.
We as "The People" have a "Right" to fight back. Almost all the time we see that calling our representatives and all the marches don't work that well. we should unite and do something more them doing a phone call or marching. we should do some type of extreme movement like in Latin America with burning cars and stuff like that, that is the only way that these so called "Senaters" and "Congressmen" will listen.
As soon as he talked about that madate I automatically thought that without it the government would have to cover those costs causing, if anything, a rise in taxes
Ralph Nader has been saying for years that the corporations own the Gov't. This aint what I stood in line 6 1/2 hours in the cold to vote for!!!! I'm to the point where I won't vote for either one of these parties ever agian.
This country is run by hidden coperal bosses. Healthcare with public option will never be an option because of coperal bosses, and marijuana will never be legalized because of big pharma and the DEA. This is worst socialism.
This isn't socialism at all buffalosouljah18. This is what I would call corporate facsim. Socialism is on the other side of the politcal spectrum. Look the politcal spectrum up and you'll see what I mean.
This is not the change we voted for. We voted for (if not single-payer) than a public option. Instead we're getting milk toast. Insubstantial worthless legislation that will go nowhere and do nothing. Co-ops in healthcare insurance will not work. Even the senators that came up with it said that. Obama's only move to prevent losing a primary in 2012 at this point is to threaten to veto this health care bill and tell them his requirements. He has to speak up and lead, not follow.
why isn't Obama doing a referendum ? If the American People wants a public option so bad, he should just let the people directly express himself and then, once it is established that it is a public single payer system that is demanded by the people, the republicans and the blue dogs are against the wall to do a plan in congress.
The point is that a legislation can pass by making the people vote in a referendum. This would mean that the corporate democrats and republicans couldn't interfere as much as in the congress chamber.
What I'd like to know are some actual figures: How much are the federal subsidies for health industry (insurance and medical companies etc.)? These figures are critically important from the perspective of an ordinary citizen.
our goverment is not interested in giving healthcare to the people they are interested in lining thier own pockets.
maybe we should all sponser a referendum to take the goverment paid healthcare from all congressman and senators then maybe just maybe we will get true healthcare reform.....
Hahaha! I guess Rohm Emanuel must've ran out fish to send to all the democrats against this assault on health care in America.BTW young turd, there should be no subsidies!!! Tort reform and regulation reform would be a lot more productive then trowing tax money into health care...
Efforts at campaign finance reform in the past have been challenged on first amendment (free speech) grounds, so it's been difficult finding the right, legal balance.
ye, but that sounds more like wanting to do it wrong, just to be ruled unconstitutional.
whole campaign is regulated by laws. whole structure of the organisations is 'made up' way after constitution, and that could be regulated however they wanted it to be.
after all corruption is illegal in the US. and campaign laws just create loopholes to allow some ppl to get legal protection.
all it shows, is that media+politics are satisfied with the status quo.
absolutely media and politicians are satisfied with the status quo - and you can add corporations to that list. just look at what's happening with health care reform, it would be easy to accuse many in congress of being corrupted by the money and influence of lobbyists, but it can be very difficult to prove. it would take a huge political scandal with the public in an uproar to create a climate where any meaningful changes could be made. pretty sad, huh?

Funny how Americans all rate issues like the Economy, Health Care, the War in the Middle East, the Environment, and many other things as top priorities to focus on.
Rarely do I ever see Americans concerned about Government corruption.
It's sad. Either American's have turned a blind eye to corrupt politicians or have simply told themselves that politicians are corrupt and nothing can be done.
CommandoDude 1 year ago
Well, that does seem to be the case, but some people are noticing, like the tea parties. However, you are right. The moment that the American people wake up and elect intelligent people not owned by corporations then we would be much better off in my opinion.

AP - Bowing to Republican pressure and an uneasy public, President Barack Obama's administration signaled Sunday it is ready to abandon the idea of giving Americans the option of government-run insurance as part of a new health care system.
fashizze 2 years ago
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that government alternative to private health insurance is "not the essential element" of the administration's health care overhaul. The White House would be open to co-ops, she said, a sign that Democrats want a compromise so they can declare a victory.

Just wondering, but do people who get freebies from taxpayer money - do they ever appreciate it?
Just wondering. What happens when taxpayers have gone broke and everybody has nothing??? What then? Dictatorship?
Starhorn 2 years ago
Its not a freebie if its paid for by taxes - most of us after all do pay taxes. Some things are private goods and should be paid for by individuals. Some things are Public Goods - a clean environment, well-policed cities, emergency services, regulators, hospitals etc - so they should be funded publicly, collectively. Thats what government is for. If you think free provision of services leads to dictatorship, look at the Scandinavian countries, some of the healthiest, best places to live on Earth

Congress and Obama, are lying to us! Again

But if you want the government taking care of you, then I have some ideas.
jbranstetter04 2 years ago 2
I have an idea. I can't get auto insurance because I average 2 accidents a month, so let's have universal auto insurance. In that way I will have auto insurance. Also, let's make it cover car washes and detailing, for after all, am I not entitled to a clean car like the rich people? And of course it should also cover general maintenance, because a maintained car is a safe car. But I do wonder if the auto shops will raise their rates sense the consumers will be out of the loop.
jbranstetter04 2 years ago 4
I have another idea; it's called universal rent/mortgage care. Some people have a real hard time paying their rent or mortgage. So the solution is for the government to pay them for us. They will use tax money from us to do it. They will of course have to instruct you in "choosing" your home. It will have to be a home that is right for your family size and your employment location. The government regulating where you live is such a small price to pay for rent/mortgage security. Is it not?
jbranstetter04 2 years ago 3
Then we can all assume that you will not be using Medicare or Social Security? Do you have kids? My husband & I have 4 kids, we can't afford health insurance, but make too much to get Medicaid. What planet do you live on? You are a spoon-fed idiot.

i bet that u r just a selfish dipshit that dosent even relize that if there is a publica healthcare option then the rates for u will also drop instead u rather have so many other people suffer even if u r suffering caz u like to c people suffer instead of helping out and y it will help u out is caz u have to pay for the people who get sick anyways so instead of it being $100 just for some meds it has to be taken care of when they r in the hospital for weeks and it ends up being $1000s that u pay

Nationalized healthcare reduces your choices but, more importantly, reduces THEIRS, mandating coverage whether you're well or sick.

free-market capitalism is basically a way for large companies to steal money from everyone and everything they can get their hands on. now it might help smaller companies in certain ways, but most of the benefits they do not get, which big corporations use over and over to screw everyone else, ultimately leading to small business losing out in the long run. without regulation and laws that can try to keep conflicts of interest out of politics, you have what we have now, an out-of-control system.

bananagraveyard 2 years ago
No, Bush didn't succeed as president. He crapped all over that office. Our two illegal foreign wars and the other issues except healthcare were already in motion because of Bush before Obama took the hot seat. Any jackass elected would have to make similar desperate choices. And "socialist" healthcare? You mean just like our police and fire departments? Get real. Or better yet, you're from Texas. So secede already, and take Bush's problems with you while you're at it..
bananagraveyard 2 years ago
No he succeeded in is Agenda, it was just a failure for this country. Just so you know, Obama is continuing and upping the troops in those illegal wars, so I am astonished a supposed peacenick like you would support him. Socialism equals public ownership of the means of production and wealth. The police aren't a means of production and aren't wealth. If you are so intent on creating a cruddy egalitarian society move to Canada and wait hours for medical care.
Stevo2444 2 years ago
I already knew that about Obama. I knew when I voted for him he would do that. On what basis would you ever suppose I was a "peacenik"? Remember when you were little and your teacher said: "When you assume you make an "ass" out of "u" and "me"? Apparently not. I'd fight in a war if I thought it was for a good enough cause, and these aren't it. And if that astonished you, wait until you figure out that the police are the front end of the prison system that tax payers are being billed for.
bananagraveyard 2 years ago
Oh, egalitarian? You mean "equal political, economic, social, and civil rights for all people"? You think equal rights are "cruddy", hmm? Then get the fuck out of my country, you bigot. I worked in US healthcare for years. Even waiting hours is better than what we have now in the US. Ever seen someone die from lack of medical treatment because they weren't rich enough? I have. Get off my lawn, Tex, before you secede and take my flowerbeds with you.
bananagraveyard 2 years ago 2
Yes, I think egalitarianism is cruddy. America was founded as a Federal Republic and meritocracy. Not a tyrannical egalitarian democracy. I don't know what you have now, but the fact, is, no one has to wait for hours and if your an illegal you are milking the system at the state level for free. At my local public hospital, several homeless people are treated and often put in front of insurance holding patients, and those people get it for free.
Stevo2444 2 years ago
I don't know where you go, but I've been to 4 ERs in this town (not always for myself, obviously), and pretty much everyone I saw in there INCLUDING ONE GUNSHOT WOUND VICTIM waited at least 4 hours, sometimes more than 6...poor or otherwise. You know who got in before the rest of us? People who knew the staff. That has nothing to do with immigration status, insurance, ideology or severity of injury.
arayalrio 2 years ago
Well guess what? A meritocracy is fine when it works, but it hasn't been working that way in quite a long time. You should go look up what tyranny means before you try to attach it to concepts you don't like, kid. And don't tell me people don't wait hours in hospitals now when I've been the guy paid to make excuses to patients on why their waiting so long for a simple procedure. What worthless asshole aside from you is going to ask a patient: "So do you have a house? No? Sorry, can't treat you."

I agree, we don't have a meritocracy.

Some clarification please...
SALonghorn 2 years ago
They did NOT take out the individual mandate. which puts the respons. on the individual to buy their own. (maybe mandated or subsidized).
The private companies won't lose that many customers, they will come to them for insurance and forgo the "group discount" that is given to larger companies.
Let's say you work for "x". And "x" provides insurance to 5k empl. by shear size, they got buying power. If "X" dumps health ins. that 5k now have to buy individual policies and a much higher rate.

I would rather have Obama veto their version then have him sign any at all.
These Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats have to stop thinking about themselves, and their controllers (health care, insurance companies, ect), and think about what is right for the American people.

Attn Cenk and TYT staff:
You can't figure out why the media won't call the politicians out for being corporatist shills? Really? That isn't difficult. These same corporations that are benefiting from the bill that the shills wrote are also advertisers and sponsors of the corporate media. If the media were to expose these lies the drug companies would threaten to take their advertising dollars elsewhere. Its about the money lebowski.

does this mean obamas healthcare has been defeated? i sure hope it dies soon so freedom can return to the health care industry i dont want the government putting some dmv official in charge of the american health care system

When the hell was freedom ever IN the health care system? :P
Also, the Government already runs the Veterens health care system, and thats top quality.

They could pay off 1000 people $50 million to $100 million
hypnofan35 2 years ago
the key to a plan working has to be that all sides can go back to their people and say- here's what we go. Liberals have to have some form of oniversal health care, cons need freedom to have their own plan, and the middle ground need their own doctor, and their social conscious soothed, knowing that all Americans will receive some form of medical care.
RyanP91 2 years ago
few basic principles of health care: 1. we are going to spend more than most countries because we like our options, 2. there has to be a certain minimum level of health care for all citizens and 3. what's not broke, don't try and fix, for those who like their plans, like their doctors, they should be inconvenienced as little as possible. somehow, we can get a plan that incoporates all 3 prinicples- the extremists need to be ignored.
RyanP91 2 years ago
Obama needs to cut the "bipartisan" bs. Who gives a fuck about what the republicunts want. If they gave a shit about reforming healthcare they would of done it under bush!! but no al they care about was spedning money on an illegal war with a country that had nothing to do with 9/11. Obama needs to get hose blue dogs in line and pass the damn bil with the public option!!!
alwan11 2 years ago 4
Well Obama can't pass the bill with just the democrats. They're helping block it.
jxsilicon9 2 years ago
Obama loves to be considered as a "bi-partisian" leader. But who is he serving when he "reaches out" to the Conservatives? Well, he is helping only the corporate Inusrance "providers." And why does he never reach out to the Dems who are progressive, if he wants all points of view?
He says he will veto any bill without any public option. I hope he does, but am not holding my breath. I look at Geithner, Bernanke and his Monsanto appointees, and I know we are screwn.

Requiring universal health insurance is NOT the same thing as providing universal health care. Anybody who has been denied medical treatment because of insurance company decisions overriding doctors know this.

Big Government Healthcare is all we need...yup. Americans simply need a pro/con to this. The cons certainly outweigh the pros. EMPLOYER MANDATE. More like employer OBLIGATION. Since when did employers owe it's employees healthcare?
opollis 2 years ago
3:06 - "We wanna shift the cost on to the American people" (say the corporations who don't want to pay the employer mandate).
All of the money taken in by corporations comes from the American people. Charging more for goods and services to pay for the "mandate" (or even to pay the penalty) shifts the cost on to the American people. People who buy things are the source of Corporate dollars.

The Republicans were running ads against healthcare reform and using FUD which had nothing to do with the legislation which the American Medical Association and the American Nurses Association were supporting.
winonatechie 2 years ago
total government run health care system is what Britain has. The legislation in Congress is nothing like that. That's why both the American Medical Association and the American Nurses Association were endorsing the House legislation which included a public option.
winonatechie 2 years ago 3

Matrixcode7 2 years ago
It's not unlike Cheney destroying the WTC and then taking the country to war for profit. They have so much rich support they can play it like "it needs to be played". Pretty soon, if they get their way on everything they will be "harvesting" illnesses and "planting the seeds" as well. The big game is to be able to get away with it. It's just become an acceptable or legal crime mixed in with a "legitimate system. It is like mixing lies with truth for a scamming effect.
hypnofan35 2 years ago
Health care is so big that they can simply make a few in the power structure (congress) rich and then get their way. We need an entirely different "not for mega profits system" that cannot go to congress to get more mega riches. What they need is a law to stop corporate medical scamming, maybe severe punishment for the leaders. Round them up and give them to Cesar Milan for re-socialization training.
hypnofan35 2 years ago 4
I am losing faith that any sort of viable health care reform is going to pass under this administration. Obama hasn't played the game aggressively enough. He really needs to expose these people, irrespective of whether they have little d's next to their names or not. Maybe he should have hired Cenk as his Whitehouse spokesmen.
MrHaufniensis 2 years ago
well, WH officials say the fight has only just begun. Losing faith will only guarantee you lose it all. Instead of losing faith, how about joining the fight somehow. Spread the word to convince ppl to accept HC reform, call your politicians and make the right threats. Raise money, make ads, etc.
Rosannasfriend 2 years ago
that method does not work anymore with these corporate people and we need more drastic measures. a riot in the right place can and will make the difference.

As soon as he talked about that madate I automatically thought that without it the government would have to cover those costs causing, if anything, a rise in taxes

buffalosouljah18 2 years ago
This is not the change we voted for. We voted for (if not single-payer) than a public option. Instead we're getting milk toast. Insubstantial worthless legislation that will go nowhere and do nothing. Co-ops in healthcare insurance will not work. Even the senators that came up with it said that. Obama's only move to prevent losing a primary in 2012 at this point is to threaten to veto this health care bill and tell them his requirements. He has to speak up and lead, not follow.

why isn't Obama doing a referendum ? If the American People wants a public option so bad, he should just let the people directly express himself and then, once it is established that it is a public single payer system that is demanded by the people, the republicans and the blue dogs are against the wall to do a plan in congress.
jeemaurice 2 years ago 2
whats the point. He won the election. People knew he would put in healthcare.
worldwed 2 years ago
The point is that a legislation can pass by making the people vote in a referendum. This would mean that the corporate democrats and republicans couldn't interfere as much as in the congress chamber.

Exactly. The assholes in Washington are supposed to represent the people. Hold a national vote. To hell with the middlemen.

Efforts at campaign finance reform in the past have been challenged on first amendment (free speech) grounds, so it's been difficult finding the right, legal balance.
ScoundrelLB 2 years ago
ye, but that sounds more like wanting to do it wrong, just to be ruled unconstitutional.
whole campaign is regulated by laws. whole structure of the organisations is 'made up' way after constitution, and that could be regulated however they wanted it to be.
after all corruption is illegal in the US. and campaign laws just create loopholes to allow some ppl to get legal protection.
all it shows, is that media+politics are satisfied with the status quo.
logoth80 2 years ago
absolutely media and politicians are satisfied with the status quo - and you can add corporations to that list. just look at what's happening with health care reform, it would be easy to accuse many in congress of being corrupted by the money and influence of lobbyists, but it can be very difficult to prove. it would take a huge political scandal with the public in an uproar to create a climate where any meaningful changes could be made. pretty sad, huh?
