Something about this '81 NYC performance keeps haunting me and making me watch it again. Maybe it's the almost overwhelming darkness. Or the determination on their faces. The way Bernard Sumner looks up just before he takes the mic, like he's trying to find Ian behind or above the darkness...And the furious intensity with which they all play...it's so close to Joy Division but already they're progressing and changing...
@joshama87 That's because most of the people you work with are probably tasteless losers with zero conception of good music or any historical perspective on how music evolved (or should I say - devolved) to its current deplorable state...
They were good till around Power, Corruption & Lies. I loved there mix of Joy Division rock and early electronic music. They lost me when they started making upbeat music lol.
I like (most) all New Order, but my preference is with Movemet and the early singles from Substance. Joy Division is the supreme dark, and the dance New Order is often too upbeat. Movement/Ceremony is the happy medium. It's a shame they matured so fast!
same here...obsession is the only way to describe it. But , can you really blame us? This band is simply amazing and so versatile. Plus Gillian is a hottie!!!!
thank you

First time I heard this tune. Sounds quite a lot like an early version of Blue Monday.
