I feel sorry for this boy who wasn't kidnapped. To be ripped away from his loving grandparents, his stepdad, his friends, and his pretty baby sister. His sister that is only one year old will have to grow up not knowing her brother. The only reason Sean has been is Brazil is because his mother TOOK him WITHOUT the fathers knowledge of her plans. How the hell is that the real fathers fault. So now because Brazil has kept him illegally for many years they are now entitled to keep him???!?!?! They should have NEVER taken him away from his father in the US. In the next life the mom should stay in Brazil, marry a Brazilian and avoid all of these problems.

FABIO - Being 'used to Brazil' doesn't mean he belongs there. If a prisoner is "used to" their cell, should they stay when they have completed their sentence?
When his mother died, his father has true custody over his own son. Remember Elian Gonzalez? Was it wrong to send him back to Cuba, when his mother died trying to give a different life for him in the US?
Maybe we should ask Elian what he thought if he lived in the US for five years before being ordered back to Cuba?

I'm not saying that Sean should not be with his father, but I think that this decision was made too late and it must bring trauma to him, and his home in Brazil can not be compared to a cell, becouse he also has a familie there who loved him and raised him all this time....

I agree, his extended family loves him...but Sean is not their responsibility. David is responsible for him. If his grandmother/stepfather really cared about Sean, they would have let him go back to David.
And I wasn't trying to compare Brazil to a prison cell. Brazil is beautiful.
To me, the family came off as very selfish - like they wanted to keep their the mother/wife alive through Sean. Its unfair to Sean, David and two countries that have very different opinions about a private manner.

The only loser to this situation is the kid. He didn't ask or want to be a football/futbol in this media circus. I hope Sean can grow up to be a good man, and most of all, happy after the past five years.
Grandma said she wasn't happy in the US (marriage or not). It wasn't home, Brazil - why would she want to live/raise her kid here? Because she's not American and we're "strange".
Taking the kid wasn't smart or right - now he has to live with this crap. Good luck Sean.

This is what happens when a father still doesn´t realize he has a son and gives all the responsabilities to your wife create a child. I feel sorry for this boy who wasn't kidnapped. To be ripped away from his loving grandparents, his stepdad, his friends, and his pretty baby sister. His sister that is only one year old will have to grow up not knowing her brother. It's sad that people seem to think of him as incapable of knowing what he wants even though he is almost 10 years old. It truly is sad that more people care about being blood related than what's best for the child.

You are right. David does have natural rights over his son however if he really cared about his son emotional well being he would listen to Sean himself. SEAN has said that he wants to stay with his FAMILY in Brazil. David should respect that and make plans to visit him or to have Sean visit him, maybe Sean could spend vacation in America or David spend his vacations in Brazil.

David should have made going to America and being with his dad a fun experience for Sean. If David did that, Sean may have WANTED to move to America instead of being forced where he will not be able to see his family ever again, making it a traumatizing experience.
