  • what kind of muzzle device do you use? i was looking at the claymore and battlecomp 2.0 and i just want to know what one is better at reducing recoil and muzzle rise

  • @gunsgalore762 I use a Surefire Flash Hider, sometimes the brake.

I would choose the Battlecomp 2.0, but be advised they are all loud and blow dirt around when shooting from compromised positions.

    Kyle

  • Great Video & shooting! I was wondering if I could get some input on the .223 round. Right now I have been practicing with an ak platform because it was the cheaper route for me but I've been looking into ar's for awhile but i've never been a huge fan of the .223 so was just curious if any one out there who has experience in the field could share some opinions. Thanks!

  • Great Teaching points!

  • why have the forward grip when he is not going to use it

  • @lokalllize He does use it, just not in the conventional sense. Gripping it like a broomstick doesn't do a whole lot to help lateral control when transitioning from target to target.

  • @StoneSlinger0oo0 cool thanks I have seen side grips (dunno what they are called) some use

  • Well if you use a shotgun, it's one shot one kill. That's why I prefer them over rifles.

  • If you weren't shooting a .22 you wouldn't have to shoot them 3, 4 or 5 times. How about a 6.8 or 7.62?

  • @ArmednSafe Then again, the mag and ammo loadout would be heavier and Kyle wouldn't be able to slam rounds downrange as fast as he is, so it's all a matter of personal preference.

  • @John234pwns It is. But the weight of a 6.8 SPC or a 7.62x39mm isn't anywhere near twice that of a 5.56x45mm, but they do twice the damage. They are especially better when you start using hallow points or soft points. Having a heavier bullet like that allows for sufficient penetration with expansion. The ~65 grain bullets that the 5.56 spits fragments too much and don't penetrate enough to be effective on human sized animals if they are hallow or soft points.

  • @ArmednSafe Yeah, but consider Kyle is training active servicemen and women with a weapon he used in the service, most likely and that is similar to issue weapons today. I think that is just as important as ballistic superiority with other calibers.

  • @John234pwns I'm not sure what you mean by your last comment.

  • @ArmednSafe He's using the weapon that people he is training use.

  • @John234pwns I know. I'm just saying the weapon leaves a lot to be desired and could use improvements.

  • @ArmednSafe Probably. I want a 6.8 AR, personally.

  • @John234pwns I totally agree. I think a piston 6.8 AR is one of the best weapon platforms out there. However, I opted for a Kalashnikov because of the price and availability of 6.8 weapons and ammo. If the U.S. Military adopted it instead of the anemic 5.56, the price would drop and we would see it everywhere. Then it would really be a great option.

  • @ArmednSafe I do not think the military will ever fully adopt the 6.8 SPC unless NATO would sponsor it... and there is no way that is going to happen. Shame though, I am a big supporter of anything that would drive up the popularity and down the price of the 6.8, I just do not see it happening anytime soon :(

  • @usmcboyer Well, 7.62x39 has similar ballistics inside of 300 to 400 yards. And the steel cased stuff the Russians make is pretty good (If your gun will extracting it reliably). But then it's hard to get that in an AR platform.

  • @ArmednSafe With shot placement like that there will be no difference between the two calibers.

  • @a2birdcage1 Judging by the tape on the targets at the beginning, caliber would make a difference. Some of the shot spreads are across the whole torso. If they were all in a ~3 inch circle, I would whole heartedly agree with you.

  • Thumbs up if the KWA GBB M4 brought you here

  • what kind of trigger do you use

  • Kyle has great cadence. (sp) I struggle with that. I can't get rid of that pause and drives me nuts. Cool drill.

  • fk he's fast

  • i blinked and he was done shooting :o

  • i don't know who's faster Travis Haley your Kyle Lamb?

either way they are both very skilled shooters

  • By far my favorite drill!!! Good way to finish a practice session too.

  • what type of sling is that?

  • @mobne That would be the Viking Tactics Quick Adjust Two Point sling.

    Kyle

  • @gunguy2010 Not as good as the Surefire but the price is right.

    KL

  • Kyle, regarding free float tubes, do you recommend carbine or mid length on a 16 inch rifle?

    Semper Fi

    Howard

  • @rescurat Mid Length or longer. I use a 13 inch VTAC Extreme Free Float. The more I can reach forward the better.

    Kyle

  • Kyle, Has the trigger in your rifle been modified in any way? I've tried this drill with some of my team members and it seems like our colt m4 triggers won't move fast enough. Maybe we're just getting old.

  • @gunguy2010 I don’t use anything for muzzle rise or recoil just for flash. I use the Surefire Suppressor adapter that is a Flash Hider.

    Kyle

  • To you and all of your brethren, THANK YOU. If I had it to do over again I would have done my best to join your ranks.

  • Kyle ,

What do you think about the chances of running this sort of drill with a compensated AK 47 ( 7.62 ) ? Thanks .

    BT.

  • @BrokenTengu99 I've actually done it with the Troy Industries M14 Modular Chassis System. You can see the video if you search for Troy Industries on YouTube. Shouldn't be a problem to do it with the AK.

  • @VikingTactics

Just saw that . That was BEAST ! Thanks , Kyle !

  • Centermass is a good place to shoot but if your subject is wearing body armor try and hit his pelvic bone break it and he hits the ground no matter what his body cant physically hold up his weight. This is a good tactic with a pistol. Great Vid wish I could train with you guys sometime. Keep Up the outstanding work.

  • damn 15 shots in under 3 seconds :)

  • im just curious. are these guys in the military or law enforcement?

imo when will these tactics ever be useful? how often will you get a chance to shoot someone

  • @ganaschico

Guys like Kyle train everyone from your average citizen to people in law enforcement and military. Most hope they never have a "need" to employ any of their skills with a carbine, but if the time arose, having the proper training to utilize the rifle to a close to its fullest extent as possible is obviously put things more in your favor. Also, any shooting enthusiast will find the training alone enjoyable. Think of it as like taking up a martial art.

  • Great video lessons.Anything that can break the "bad habit patterns" in the mind generated by repetitious drills is a huge + in real world scenarios when things are changing in the blink of an eye. TY VTAC.

  • kyle since some law enforcment are making that transition to the SCAR and or ACR platforms, hell even SOCOM making it's change to the SCAR MK-17? have you have many people asked you about making drills with those platforms? granted yes the MK-17 has the bigger round but the ACR and MK-16 SCAR still use the 5.56? have you had the chance of running these weapon's in your drills or no?

  • @sekytwo I or one of our students have ran most of the drills with the SCAR, I have not shot the drills with the ACR.....yet....

The nice thing about some of the drills is that it brings to light any weapons shortcomings that are amplified by the drill and forced body positioning.

It takes a lot of training to overcome a poorly placed reciprocating bolt handle for instance.

    Kyle

  • @VikingTactics

For the SCAR is there going to be an instructional video or a video similar to the one about your thoughts on point shooting?

  • @SuperRobot7 That was not planned but that would be a pretty good video. Since I like to speak the truth on gear I would more than likely get in a lot of trouble with FN.

    Kyle

  • @VikingTactics

The truth stings. Besides it's not like FN could do much to you anyways, right? I haven't see you use any of their weapons on camera before and you're a civilian now. Maybe you could slip it in one of the new DVDs coming out as a bonus video lol.

  • @VikingTactics Couldn't agree more. I hated the SCAR the first time I ever picked one up. It's nice to shoot off a bench at the local range and to show off to your friends but that's about it.

  • if i only aford .223

  • Awesome drill. Thanks for sharing.

  • Sir, sorry to bother you, but I have a quick question, how practical is it in the real war world to shoot enemies in the head versus center of mass? I remember during MOUT training in the military they taught us to shoot center of mass, but I kind of disagree with that, because what if the enemy has a hostage and only his head was exposed. Thank always sir, your video help me out a lot and God bless you

  • @x85010 It is best to practice every possible scenario, if all that is exposed is the head, well that is now your target.

Glad to hear you like the videos.

    Kyle

  • As awesome as this, and other Viking Tactics videos are, they don't do Mr. Lamb justice.

Attend one of his courses and it becomes apparent how good he is (and Dan too!).

Video doesn't show how fast they snap the gun from target to target.

  • are you a robot?

Because that's what it looks like.

  • I am curious if you can peform these same speed drills with in the same time frames using the M14, or M14 varients like the SOCOM, given the the additional recoil of the 308 and length of the cartridge (time for the bolt carrier to cycle)?

  • @waylongwang I can't add links to these comments but if you do a search for Troy Industries M14 Modular Chassis System (MCS) Short you'll see me shooting the 1-5 with a .308 system.

    Kyle

  • I am curious if you can peform these same speed drills with in the same time frames using the M14, or M14 varients like the SOCOM, given the the additional recoil and length from the 308.

  • Guitar players have a youtube channel called "Betcha cant play this". You should do the same thing. "Betcha cant shoot this". You seem so subtle, yet your absolutley terrifying. Your the man Mr. Lamb

  • why the fuck would you hold your gun like that when you have a fore grip

  • @blizzard249 because thats how men handle their rifles, with control. Not grasping onto the stick. That does not give you very good muzzle control.

  • SMAJ, do you do any seminars? I recognized Ant Hill in one of your videos so you're close to home for me.

  • @browneye77 Yes sir, what can we help you with?

    KL

  • Kyle, are you using carbine or mid-length gas systems in your carbines? Love running this drill BTW.

  • @decodeddiesel Yes sir, I prefer to run the midlength. All of my JP’s have it and the new S&W we are doing will have it as well. Keeps the weapons from beating themselves up.

    Kyle

  • Kyle,

Are you using a pneumatic buffer at all? You guys have helped us out here in Okinawa so much it is unreal. Thanks for everything.

    -Boog

  • @theburgars No hydraulic or pneumatic buffers, not a fan of those at all. We tried the enidine and they all failed at the extremes. I believe you are asking for trouble with these devices. I think if the weapon recoiled it may help, but the AR15 just doesn’t have enough recoil to justify its use.

    Kyle

  • WOw, i'm impressed xO

i know you guys from VTAC due to my 5.11 stuff but i didnt knew you did training sessions/lessons xO

i'm eager to see more!! you just made me reunite with the M4-series (being a lefty...)

  • Kyle, whats is the status of the DVD? Will it be more than just the youtube drills compiled together?

  • Hi Kyle,

Im from Germany (Echterdinegn) maybe you Know That?!

near Böbligen Panzerkaserne ;) you know that! lol wehn do you come there the next Time?? I Need your new Targets but got no Kreditcard so I can by it from you Personal :) ???

    Daniel

  • @Thuglord0711 Look forward to meeting you the next time we come to Panzer.

    Kyle

  • Scary shit bro........glad your on our side and teaching us. I'm not a veteran however I am a copper and have been on hundreds of high risk warrants and I can attest to the distances encountered in an average home and office building. Things pop up quickly and must be addressed accordingly. Well done and thanks for your service to our country.

  • To be honest, in combat are the enemies really that close up?

  • Oxstayne,

The largest room in my house is 6 yards. Of course there are larger rooms in buildings, but this is a CQB-type drill. Rifle training requires drills conducted at varying distances.

During our classes we shoot from 5 yards out to at least 100 (farther if possible). The skills required for close engagements are different than those required for long-range rifle work. We provide drills and instruction that cover both.

    Kyle

  • Yeah, but in CQB I would have a different gun, this is more urban fighting. Would you say MP7 and the Kriss Super V would be good CQB weapons?

  • Oxstayne

Most Soldiers, Marines, or LE personnel don't have a choice. Soldiers and Marines will use their M4, with 14.5 inch barrel, for all of the fight - inside or out. CQB and Urban combat are really the same thing to me.

Your Unit is obviously special: not many issue the MP7 or Kriss Super V. Actually I have never seen anyone issue the Super V, most have moved away from 45 ACP carbines due to over penetration at close range and poor ballistics at longer ranges.

    Thanks

    Kyle

  • Yeah, I was just wondering how one of the newer gun would preform, guess I have to try them to find out for sure. Do you teach "room clearing" related drills?

  • Oxstayne

We do teach courses for CQB Operations to Military and LE Personnel.

    Kyle

  • instead of slamming you like 2 other people. i'll tell you as a veteran of iraq. yes, in combat, enemies really are that close. you have got to remember, we don't know who the enemy IS. when they pop up it's out of no where, because the blend in with the populous. they could be 2 inches from you.

  • Kyle,

Do you use the stock trigger or an aftermarket model? If an an aftermarket model which one?

What is your reasoning behind your trigger selection?

    WIll

  • Will

I use either a JP or a Geisselle. I prefer those two triggers because of the quality.

I prefer the JP because it is single stage. I like the Geisselle because it is a drop in that gives you a very nice trigger. Both are available on our web site.

    ADIOS

    Kyle

  • Thanks.

As soon as a few of these kids get jobs I'll have the best AR ever! Is three years old too young for a paper route?

    Will

  • where in north carolina?

  • "Kyle Lamb giveth me strength and power unto my bullets. Blessed be my sight picture."

  • When you shoot someone, your trying to stop the blood flow or brain activity. If you use 7.62x51 NATO at close ranges, the round will most likely pass through your target. Leaving a clean entry and exit wound, it may or may not knock the target off balance or kill them in one shot.

  • Hell yes, no BS thats the MF of rounds. Ishould know i got one

  • oh man...

  • lol true

  • Not always.

  • Unbelievable!!!

  • How on earth do you get your trigger finger moving that fast?!?!?!

  • Google 'trigger reset'

  • practice makes perfect, thats my motto on everything, ;D. or maybe hes just a natural shooter

  • @cforumsemail: You get that good with trigger manipulation with a lonnnnnnng career with the Army and Army Special Forces. Kyle Lamb is a Sergeant Major, pretty much close to the highest enlisted rank possible.

  • @cforumsemail focus on your reset. check this out: youtube.com/watch?v=9cUe5-PXIDQ

  • @cforumsemail a massive amount of repetition and consistency on trigger pull....as well as a massive amount of rounds downrange...

  • Erased my previous comment since I read where you said this is considered a "crawl" level drill. One complaint... we didnt get to see your drill at full speed at the end!

  • IncisalEdges,

Thanks for the comment. The run that starts at around 3:00 is the full speed counterpart to the slow-mo drill that starts at 3:34. Unfortunately, I've forgotten what the time for that run was now....

    -Kyle

  • Because of what you were saying while the full-speed footage was shown, I thought that was just an example of "hosing rounds down range." Knowing that was the same run as the one in slow motion really puts that into perspective. That is some smooth shooting, especially at that speed!

  • WOW! I love it I tried it the other day and it is alot harder then it looks...

  • That's a great drill to develop trigger-finger speed and proper firing position/ sight allignment, but, to apply it to real world confrontations, I think it would be best to incorporate random pop-up targets in a field rather than the three targets lined up. With the drill as it is, you will become an insanely skilled trigger man, but real life targets will rarely be so conveniently lined up like that.

  • Equipment and range permitting, you're correct.

The 1-5 is a basic drill designed to focus shooters on holding a sight picture while engaging a target with multiple shots, to ensure they don't get fixated on just double tapping, and to ensure shooters' transition times are close to their split times.

Once shooters have a grasp on those concepts, we expect them to move to more advanced drills that present more realistic tactical conditions. In the crawl-walk-run world, this is a crawl.

  • Cool....I like crawling....brings forth a certain...nostalgia...times long ago when i was none but a wee child cooing amongst the sheep in the valleys of Glorious Ireland.
