I read everything John Jakes published. This trilogy of stories was one of my favorites and although the characters in this story when physically different than the men described by Jakes, this was still a well told story.
This scene was one of my favorites in this series. I also enjoyed the scenes at Mont Royal. We had an opportunity to tour the plantation several years ago. It is worth the trip just to drive the lane leading to the house.
@Rkirk51 I have read them too, and yes well told, characters different, but I saw the movie first, and then read the book, in my mind put the character in the book...I couldn't put the books down
I love this scene!!! Patrick Swayze is my favorite actor, and my mom got me the mini-series on DVD for Christmas this year, and we've been watching them. She got my name from here, Ashton, even though she's a total brat. ;) Though Dirty Dancing is my favorite of his, that might change by the time we're done watching the 2nd book, because he is so amazing in this. :)
Yeah, mom got me the dvd series whole series set 1, 2, n 3, Glad to see george and madeline in the last series, but wasn't the same without Swayze.............I MISS THAT MAN, GREW UP WITH HIM,,,RIP , ALWAYS IN MY HEART!!!!!!!
@brandiiloveyou I can't believe they didn't shoot him and burn his body. I wouldn't want Bent coming back again! And he got off easy, don't you think? After what he did to Constance and everyoned else?
I'm surprised this miniseries didn't make him a huge star. It wasn't until "Dirty Dancing" that he made it big. Oh well, at least he got the recognition he deserved. I will miss him SO much.
I wasn't aware Patrick Swayze past away. I knew he had cancer and all. but as for the scen this is one of my favorites. This is like the first of two times he seriously went up against Cadet Corporal Bent.
me, too. i fell in love with him the first time i saw him in this epic movie. and the more when i watched the movie, ghost, which i won't get tired of watching up to this time. goodbye, patrick swayze!
North and South was my first introduction to Patrick Swayze...I loved him from the moment I saw him! When I toured Boone Hall Plantation (Mont Royal) a couple of years ago, I could still picture him there beside the great white columns of the front porch. Gone now...what a memory he remains for me, all these years later...
i am very jealous that you toured" Mount Royal ":) i am sure it was beautiful, did you see it in " The Notebook" they actually filmed in it , Horth & South was crowded they didn't , do you know where? I love the series so much!! its crazy!
Why would it get pulled? This is one of my favorite scenes too. You can see his dance talent on display before it was well known he was a dancer. This mini-series will always be my favorite memories of Patrick Swayze as much as I loved Dirty Dancing.
Copyright...though I think the advertisement of the series might get more people to watch/rent/buy it, so having the clip up is a good thing. My Heath Ledger and Paul Newman tribute clips have not been pulled and I hope the same goes for this one. I always think the best tribute to an actor/actress is to show them at their best, doing what they loved to do. :)

Lonesome Dove was Ten Times better. Tommy Lee Jones kicked ass as Woodrow F Call and So did Robert Duvall as Augustus McCrae
