Iceland cant pay any of this debt...it is ridiculous. Britain had obligations to surveillance the icelandic banking activities in Britain but they did not do their job there. I cant believe that Britain is still demanding that Iceland pay back for bank accounts that were allowed in Britain. We could be paying for 50 to 100 years without really ever getting the debt down. Germany took 90 years to pay back their debt of WW1. The icelandic debt per capita is more then 3 times higher then that.
Why did the FSA not watch over the Iceland guarantee scheme given that Icesave was taking such significant deposits? Negligence. English common law allows U to sue for distress even if all savings are recovered. FSA heads must role.
Why did the media often indicate that Icesave investments were covered by the 35k guarantee, without mentioning the material fact that Iceland itself was responsible for about half? Again, this is negligence. Icesavers should take action and sue for distress.

I knew about the responsibility of Icelandic organisations to pay the first £16,000, but the scheme was supposedly to be supported by other Nordic countries, which wasn't going to happen. Iceland has seriously lost credibility and should be added to the "axis of evil" countries.
